I will advise you to at least look for another related conference because May 10th is not feasible. Within an hour from now who knows interviews date might be booked up to May 10th.. Just an advise. It's good to always have considerable time between desired programs in US and interview date

Now they came here and started to come and claim one useless asylum saying they're fleeing from Boko Haram or whatever. The kicker is: these guys are Igbo. Which Boko Haram are you fleeing? Now, as God go catch them, I think you can only claim asylum is you fly directly from a country where you claim your life is at stake. But these people flew Emirates and their layover was in Dubai. So technically, they're seeking asylum from the UAE. I don't understand well Sha. But long story short, they can't file for asylum. They can't drive. I don't even know if they work. The only thing they have to show for it is thei Us born child. Maybe they hope that one can file for them in 20 years. Provided she makes enough money to meet the income requirements of filing for two people. It's such a mess!!! Smh.

All you guys telling people they are not qualified to apply for US Visa, please stop that... there are people well qualified with strong family ties, married with children, travel history and have a well paid job that are still denied US visa.

I know of people with no strong ties to Nigeria...single, low pay job, no travel history... that were still given visa.

Let the VO decide their fate; stop talking rude and harsh to people that they are not qualified to apply for the US Visa.

My advice to all, take time to fill the DS-160 form, you don't have to be in a hurry filling it and ensure you are honest in the form. Most questions you will be asked is base on what you filled in the form.

I can't count our many times the VOs on NIV thread said nobody can tell u your chances, the best for you is to be honest and be prepared.
So, if people come here for consultation, the oracles may decide to pieces there not too strong confidence. Don't blame people that offered solicited advise then they only answered because they were asked.
Lastly, anybody that think his/her life depends on the visa should apply and pray to God to touch the heart of the VO. This is the biggest factor in the process.

If during your vacation,you happen to attend a job fair(get a job offer and they sponsor your work permit), School open day( you get admitted and they issue you I-20), meet a man or woman fall in love and marry. The bottom line here is "you will have to demonstrate to USCIS's satisfaction that you arrived without a "preconceived intent to ". It is true this privilege has been abused but still it is a law and permissable, so lets not be quick to judge people, so many had no intent of absconding when they applied for a visit visa. Plans change and the authorities are well aware of this as human nature. Hence this provisions are there to accomodate such change.

They had the intent to run. Use the VISITING B1/B2 visa to gain entry into the US and then overstay and try to legalize afterwards. They had the Pre-conceived intent to from the get go

Even if you got a job while on a B1/B2, they still have to either file an H1, and H4 visa or an L1, L2 visa. And mind you, you will need to change status from to be able to work and that means they need to exit the country and apply for those visas OUTSIDE of the US. Their B1/B2 can't be changed inside the states. There is no such thing as work permit. They need to exit the country and apply for an EB visa and that's not set in stone. People still get refused the visas even with a job offer.

As per F-1, yes you can apply for change of status in the US to an F1 while on a B visa and still stay in the country but you will need an F visa to reenter the country if you leave the country. Most times sef, those change of status requests are denied. And by the time they deny you, many have overstayed.

No one can tell you with certainty your chances, more so as when they do not know your situation.
The best recommendation you will find on this thread is that you read, research, fill the form honestly, assess yourself, pay you visa fee, schedule your interview and pray.

As to how many places you can fill, it depends on you, your plans and your budget. Someone said recently that it is best to keep it simple. Choose a place of interest to you, and research about the city to ensure it meets your requirements.

All these work of reading, researching, will help build your confidence. You need to be convinced of the purpose of the trip; failing which your chances of convincing anyone else will be very low.
Also, self preparation will help you avoid the pitfall of looking lost, actually getting lost, or lack of confidence at the interview.

And YES! The couple came here from Nigeria, the wife was pregnant and they sold their belongings in Lagos just so they could move here. Infact, they used agents who collected up to N1Million from them to process visas. They got the visas, sold their belongings and jumped ship to America. They got to DFW with little or no money and the guy the agent introduced them to with the promise of accommodating them in the US refused to pick their calls. They were stranded for days, using up the meager money they brought from Nigeria with no hope of settling here and even going back home (they have sold everything).

Someone suggested they come to my City in CA because it's famed for Agricultural produce and Oil and Gas and see of they can get jobs. They hopped on a buis from Dallas to CA with the last money on them. Imagine a pregnant woman on a bus for more than 24hours. They got here and did not even have money to rent hotel. Became a burden on the Nigerian community here as we had to house them and even organized a baby shower for the wife. Now they're a liability to the government cos they get checks courtesy of their American born kid. But they can't work. Now they want to file asylum based on Boko Haram? Which Boko Haram is chasing them in Lagos? You lied at the embassy that you were coming for vacation. You sold belongings with the preconceived intent of moving here and you're here telling me about something that prompted the change of their plans when the plan from the get go was to migrate permanently?? What i am saying is this "We can not evaluate prior intent", it is left for USCIS to do.

And please tell me the legal means you got your legal stay through i will tell you the flip side intent. I do not support illegality in any way, but we can not be here and evaluate peoples intent, if the law permits them to prove not having prior immigration intent to have immigation benefits who am i to complain.
