By that logic it also negates your points about minding one's biz. Since its posted publicly on the internet everyone is entitled to an opinion of it. If she wanted no opinion, then she better put the pic private or not at all.

Different things. I was minding my own business until this topic came up & because it's a public forum as you you, I said my piece. I still think it's noone's business whose picture someone puts up on THEIR profile. Not everything on the internet is public property, hence private messages, etc. And your profile, which only you can access, makes it a personal property that only you have the power to choose what information others are privy to about yourself ie. profile pictures, location & so forth.

The emboldened is the core of my point. By choosing to do that, you have given them a reason to make opinions about whatever you choose to upload. It's no longer private but public knowledge. The only reason you alone can upload such pic is because someone else do not upload any pic there.

Private messaging is private as the name implies but not display/profile pic.

And my dear, so long it can be downloaded and saved, everything on the internet is public property. If it werent public property, someone wouldn't upload a false pic of his/her self.

There are some things on the internet that you can't download even though they may be available, due to copyright laws. There are many other ways to mantain your privacy too on the internet, like choosing your "audience", etc. Hence I say, not everything is for public viewing. You still have some level of control.
