why is it that when a guy asks a girl out to dinner, he is automatically assumed to be the one to pay the bill at the end of the night

however, when a guy asks his fellow guy to join him for drinks or food at a restaurant, they split the bill.

when a girl asks another girl to join her for drinks or dinner, they too split the bill.

isn't it hypocrisy to want gender equality on one hand and then turn around to act like some incapacitated person when the bill comes

I can understand if this is just the first date and the guy was the one that invited her, but what about the second date, third, fourth...

you can find out a lot about a girl you think you like on the first 3 dates you go on. If she doesn't open her wallet even once within this period, then it is safe to say she's not the one for you.

If you know you are not ready to pay, don't bother inviting her. She can only pay if she invited you or if she volunteers despite you inviting her(which is not expected of her).

depends on who asked for the date. As a women you should never leave for a date without enough cash on you to pay for your bill . Although some women find it as a turnoff

Cultural and social views do play a huge part here. That said I have offered to spilt a bill before and that was not well received so who has the issue here? I have no issues with splitting the bill what if he has issues with that? Do I ask and risk a hositle reception or sit there with folded arms waiting for him to pay? Men also foster this behaviour so what's the way forward here?
