Hello house,

I have been a silent reader and must commend u guys for all your efforts on educating peeps like me on childbirth in the US. I renewed my visa first week in October 2016 and found out I was pregnant in late October 2016. Sent in my change of intent letter in December 2016, got a response that I should send in my passport details and name as it is on my passport. I did that then got the generic response.

So in the spirit of giving back, will like to share my POE experience with you all.

Left Gidi on the 30th April for Chicago on Emirates airline, every was smooth just that the flight was long.
Fast forward to JFK, i met the cbp officer and the interview went like this:

CBP: where u coming from?
Me: Nigeria
CBP: what u here for?
Me: vacation and childbirth
CBP: how many weeks are you?
Me: 33 weeks
CBP: when are you due?
Me: June 10,2017
CBP: who you staying with?
Me: my uncle and his wife
CBP: how much do you have on u?
Me: 9660$ cash and some on my card
CBP: ok gimme some minutes

He took my passport inside and at this point I am like God just take control and I kept praying in my mind.

Next he came outside stamped me in as B2 till October 2017 and said have a nice stay.

That's how I entered ooo and moved on to agriculture, scanned 2 of my bags and I was on my way....
Flew Emirates to JFK then south west jet airlines to Chicago midway airport. Now in Chicago chilling for Lo to arrive... hehehe... thank God.
Thank you guys for every.

PS: I ll like to say we shouldn't always discourage peeps that renew their visa and decide to go for childbirth instead of vacation as stated when renewing cos once u have sent in your change of intent letter, have enough cash and say the truth then you should be fine.

Thank you guys again.

Why?

In the Spirit of giving back cheesy

I've been an ardent follower of this thread for a while. I'm really grateful for the wealth of information I gathered from here. I got my visa in 2015 and I used it for a one week vacation. When I got pregnant at the end of 2016, I knew I definitely wanted to have my baby in the US so I went to work immediately. I prepared like i was preparing for Jamb... lol... I decided on Oakbend and Dr Z. I did a transfer to Dr Z and sent money to a family member to pay Oakbend fees for me as I wanted to get to my POE armed with reciepts of payment. I sent a notification of Intent to both Abuja and Lagos. I got a response from Lagos asking me to contact Abuja since my visa was issued in Abuja. Abuja only sent a response containing FAQS and not even the generic response everyone seems to get.
I started ticket hunting in Jan. The only price friendly airline from Abuja was Turkish air. There was a 300k gap btw Turkish and Lufthansa. I'm a relatively frequent traveller and I've flown Turkish about 4 times in the past and I actually find their service quite good so it was a no brainer for me to settle for Turkish. I flew Turkish from Abuja on the first of May at 33 weeks. Porth health fit to fly seems to be the only accepted fit to fly certificate by Turkish in abuja airport. Despite having one from Abuja clinics I was still sent to Porth health. Got their fit to fly for 2k. The flight from Abuja to Istanbul was ok. In flight entertainment was ok as well. Had a 5hr wait in Istanbul. The 5hr wait went quite fast. Got my meal voucher, had a meal, freshened up in the rest room and started heading to my gate. They didn't request a fit to fly at Istanbul. The Istanbul Houston leg was good. I had a whole row all to myself despite the flight being relatively full so I was able to sleep like I was on my bed for most part of the 13hr flight. We arrived houston at 7pm. The queue was quite short but I was directed straight to the front of the Queue (my belly is too obvious.. lol)

Me: Good evening.
CBP: Good evening.. passport please.
CBP: where u coming from today?
Me: Nigeria
CBP: Are you here to have your baby?
Me: Yes
CBP: Place your right four fingers on the scanner please (completes the whole scanning and picture process)
CBP: what do you do for a living?
Me: I'm a brand Consultant
CBP: when is your husband coming?
Me: most likely June
CBP: how much do you have on u?
Me: Bleep cash
CBP: is this your first child?
Me: No. This is my 2nd pregnancy but will be my 3rd child. I had twins first.
CBP: Did you have the twins here?
Me: No, I had them in the UK.
CBP:Wow you have an international family (we both laugh and he stamps my passport B2 till Nov 1st)
CBP: what kind of food stuff did you bring?
Me: Nigerian food stuff.
CBP: Dried stuff I presume?
Me: Yes
CBP: You're free to go.
Me:Thank you.

That's how I crossed almighty Houston POE. It can only be God. No secondary Inspection. No documents or cash checked. Nothing asked about cost. I felt like I over prepared for an exam.. lol. But then again I had asked God for unmerited favour all the way so this was my prayer being answered.
I'm well rested now and have my 1st appointment with Dr Z later this morning.
Thanks to everyone who has kept this thread overflowing with info.

Sup, there is really no big deal about the name, from ur info, u and your family qualify for dropbox, all u need to do is while feeling the DS160 form, your maiden name will serve as named previously used while your marital name will be the current one. While submitting your document, you need to submit both passports cos they usually request for current passport and previous passport with already issued US visa.

Hello House,

Arrived Florida and POE experience was smooth. Should be in Houston in 2days as I plan using Oakbend Medical Center, however I am still trying to finalize accommodation issues because I traveled with my LO and would like her to attend school as well as closest to Oakbend MC, any recommendation would be fine from momas who used Oakbend in the past.

You would need to read the reviews of the particular listing you are interested to rent. Oyinbos say it as it is, so if there's a problem with the listing you are sure to see it in the reviews.

.....that said, I used Airbnb for my missionary journey and my host was super awesome just like the other reviewers mentioned.

Be sure to confirm that your proposed listing is family friendly

Florida is a big state you know. There's no point giving you doctors contact in Tallahassee if you plan to stay in Tampa.

Narrow your search down to the town you would be staying unless you are up for going to anywhere in Florida.

Thank you but the thing now is the listing i want to go for doesn't have any reviews yet and one of the reason i'm interested in that particular listing is because the owner is a Nigerian.

Question is, is the host being a Nigerian the only reason you are considering the listing?
Does the listing have all that you require?

You could send the host a mail and have a chat with him/her.. from there you might be able to judge the kind of person he/she is.

... although I have a feeling you might be having some"unusual" expectations cos of the owners nationality.

As you were rightly advised, you should chat him up and let him know your expectations and see if it meets your need. Him being a Nigeria might not mean much in this context

Good evening everyone,

Thank you guys for giving me so much information before my arrival.

So it's time to give back.
Arrived Washington DC on friday Morning 8:00am with my B1/B2 visa.

Got to the POE
CBP hello ma'am
Me: all smiles good morning
CBP : What did you come to do in America
ME: I came for a conference and also to have my baby
CBP: oh your pregnant
Me : yes ma'am
CBP: Where are you staying,
ME : with a friend in Maryland, she is a student.
CBP: how much do you have
Me : I have $8000 with my dollar master card
CBP: can the card be used here
Me: yes ma'am
CBP: make sure you pay all your bills with zero bal receipt so that you yo won't be refused entrance to America next time.
ME: ok ma'am I will
CBP: Welcome to America
She stamped me in for Six months and said that all you can go.

This didn't take 5minutes
Then got to the second POE for luggage check,
CBP: what do you have in your bag
Me: egusi, ogbono, fish, Maggi and other
CBP: hope you don't have Ororo I said no.
CBP: have made arrangement with the hosipta you want to use,
I
ME: in Washington not really but a hospital sent me bills from Chicago, I brought out the paper and showed him.
CBP: what do you do for work
Me: I told him
CBP: how many kids do you have
Me : I told him
CBP: who is taking care of them
Me : I told him
CBP: ok have a nice time and have a safe delivery.
Me : thank you very much Bye.......

When we landed in Washington, I went to the rest room brushed my mouth and added some makeup so I was French enough to look into anybodys eyes.

Pls stop if you have a B1/B2 visa you can go into America to give Birth all you need is to be confident and have enough funds to pay ur bills.
I won't advice you go on vacation first before coming back to give birth that a whole lot of expenses. Just prepare yourself confidently and everything will be fine.

I don tire to type. Take care.

Hi @preshus17l, please what hospital are you using in Maryland. Please can I have details of their Bill. Thanks alot

Hospital is Emory Midtown. Doc is Tates. We have not booked an air ticket yet (hoping to have the airlines drop fares with sales). Due in Aug, travelling in July.

We would have done TX too but Atlanta is where we have accommodation.

Are you also planning to go to Atlanta? What info do you have already?

Please can you help with Emory hospital email address or Dr Tate email. Thanks

Hi. I'm using Emory Midtown. That's where Dr Tate takes deliveries. For a vaginal delivery using a doctor like mine ( a doctor outside of emory with rights to deliver in emory), I am required to pay 3900 for the use of the facility and 425 for epidural. Total 4325. The doctors bill is not included in this amount.

I suggest you google Emory and contact them on details on delivery billing. They repsond satisfactorily.

Hello ndmum, pls I hve googled dr Tate at Emory hospital but the do not put their email on their site, can u pls direct me on how I can email the hospital and doctor. And all the best in your delivery

Please try and post your Poe experience, it will go a long way.

As for putting your LO in school, I don't think that is allowed on a b1/b2 visa. You can just buy educational books and go through some exercises with her daily.

In my opinion, being a Nigerian(or African) host matters mainly because we are aware of what you are in town for and there is a little bit more compassion. Oyinbo and other African Americans(from what I've heard) treat you like you're doing something illegal. Then there is the issue of racism and that's the last thing you want to expose yourself to when you're pregnant. It happens still in 2017.

I understand that. But I stayed with an African American man, I told him why I was coming/staying that long and he was amazing and also gave me a massive discount.
I am yet to stay with a Nigerian host so I'd leave my comments till when I do. But we have read on NL how Nigerian hosts have maltreated thier guests (although not Airbnb) and I have a feeling the Nigerian Airbnb host would act like they are doing you a favor.
I had a Nigerian nurse that was acting like she paid my hospital bills......
That's just my opinion though .
