I ve made enquiries from new HORIZON as well, though, i ve not being there in person.
The cost is slightly higher compared to IIHT.
Biko, ihelp me o, cos i need to find out where i can get the best MCSA training.
A hundred and something no be shikini money...

So is it the environment that will teach you?

Go to New Horizons and experience will teach you better!!

Hmmmm........, I really do appreciate ur willingness to offer probono advice. God bless u real good!

Out of d above realms of IT u listed above, which will u recommend as:
(1) d most sought after?
(2) d most lucrative?
(3) As a top-notch ICT-savvy person, which one/ones of these {starting from your most preferred if more than one} will u recommend to ur best friend/brother?
Thanks in anticipation of ur candid advice.

Different fields bro.

1) it is difficult to pick the most sought after because I keep seeing various vacancies on so many branches of ICT.

But

Programming

Multimedia

Web Developer

Networking

These are the ones that are needed majorly now.

2) The most lucrative depends on who hires you. A programmer's starting salary for the poorest firm is about 80k in Nigeria plus other side jobs.

ICT depends on interest. So you need to know where your interest lies. That is why they have counsellors in various IT firms.

So I wouldn't wana recommend because I don't know your area of strength.

Thanks.

to be frank with you bro... those job roles requires real pros.

Their salary no be here. it was one white guy that was handling it and guess they couldn't keep up with the pay again.

Read about Networking ( N+, CCNA, CCNP. depending on your strength, you can dive into security. That is what they are looking for.

CSCU. (Certified System Computer User). I hope I got the name right. More like a network security expert.

ok bros can i have ur contact , i have all those security certifications ..(CISSP, CEH, CCNA security). lets talk please

Bro, are there IT certification
courses for an English and
literature graduate who has
no knack for Maths? Subsequently, how do i learn the basics[CCNA]?
It's doesnt matter what your background is. To get into IT only requires basic comprehension skills, which I believe you do. Just be tailored in your approach and not jump from all over the place. If you like programming, focus your efforts around programming trainings and get certified in the languages you like. Same applies to networking, project management, business analysis etc.
Just choose an area you like and build your skills around it.

For me, I like security and have worked several years around applications Security (Oracle and SAP), Compliance applications (GRC for Oracle and SAP), Business Intelligence (OBIEE, Spargo BI, Tableau, Microstrategy, Power BI and Cognos), Network Security (Juniper, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Checkpoint) and recently on Cyber Security/ Ethical Hacking. Some folks prefer other (boring to me) areas like project management, analysis etc. So what I like might be different from what you have strengths in.

I've seen folks with degrees in architecture, accounting, English, religious studies etc from Nigerian universities/polytechnic delve into IT here in the US, earning certifications as they build their portfolios. So, don't let your college major hold you down. The IT opportunities are indeed too much, but that's if you like that area to begin with. As long as you can think and learn, nothing is stopping you.
All the best bro

Is the 80k you mentioned per month? I'm asking cos I know Web developers can make way more than that per week freelancing on popular freelancing websites.

That was why I took the worst case scenario.

Salarary + Other side jobs... which means even when you don't get jobs frequently from Freelancing sites, you know something is gonna land at the end of the month!

Bro, no need to kneel down and beg anybody. You can learn anything you want all by yourself. It all starts with you and whatever you have a passion for. Based on what I've read so far, I think the area he was talking about is either networking or network security.

If that's what you like to do, do this few things....
1. Go to www.udemy.com and open an account
2. Search for CCNA, CCNP, Cisco ASA, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Checkpoint courses. Wait. Don't buy them yet. Read the next steps.
3. Some of these courses will cost $200 and above, but let's get them cheap
Go to www.retailmenot.com, and search for 'udemy'. You will find coupons that will only make you pay $10 to learn each one of the classes.
4.You have to learn these stuff in a certain order. Your understanding of CCNA will make the rest easy for you to comprehend, so I'd recommend you focusing ur efforts on that initially as that's the basics for the rest.
5. If what you want is Network Engineering, after learning CCNA concepts and possibly getting a certification in it, an additional Certification in CCNP will make you stand out amongst your peers.
6. If what you want is Network Security, after learning CCNA concepts, learn Fortinet, Checkpoint and Palo Alto. If you're good with command lines, add Cisco ASA. Then you are good. You don't need nothing more.
All of them are same concepts, but different technologies. So it's easy to start with the easiest of them all - Fortinet. Don't jump all over the place, stay focused on one technology at a time, else u will get confused jumping from one to the other.
7. Afterwards, draft out your resume stating your skills and watch how you're flooded with calls. Mind you, you're only investing about $70 for all these courses. In the US network security professional make from $110,000 per annum, in other words you'd make more than your initial investment within your first hour on the job. You can make yourself 'badder' by adding Citrix Netscaler to your skillsets and start earning nothing less that $150,000 per annum.
Not sure what the rates are in Nigeria, it might be less. But these skills will always remain your skills anywhere you go in the world.
8. After getting that dream job, don't stay put. Start thinking of starting something of your own.
9. Thank me later.

Goodluck bro.

I love the analysis. It seems you are in the U.S?

Nice one bro. but here in Nigeria, we consider Electricity and Data bundles.

some people might not be good with a virtual teacher also. (Someone like me)

I tried learning programming but the shitt kept knocking me out.

So that's the issue tho.

Yeah, I'm in the US, but I lived in Nigeria for a long time. We used to go to cybercafes a lot back then, and my overnight browsing back then were focused on whatever I liked to learn. Not sure if cybercafes are same as at then, but as long as you can stream videos, you can learn one a day till you have an arsenal of skills.

Nothing is wrong with this requirement. Although it's a bit too drastic (since age has nothing to do with output), there are many Nigerians that can fit in very well.

I finished my first degree before the age of 20! So don't think there are Nigerians that can't meet the age requirement.

This thread has been derailed by these CCNA and computer networking guys. Those of you running after them for more info, always remember the reality that getting jobs in the IT sector is a product of genius, luck and connections. Some may get certified and won't get a single job. I know many certified people in the IT sector who are either underpaid or unemployed. So if you want to pursue that career path, prepare to be a genius at programming, coding, compiling, server maintenance, database, etc etc. If you have never been a genius all your life, don't bother... Learning only HTML is impossible for many COMPUTER SCIENCE students...
You graduated at the age of 20...how many people do you know that were lucky enough to graduate at such an early age? They said 22 and the person must have concluded NYSC. That's not fair abeg.
