Oh dear! The young lady seems not to be the easily giving up type. One Emasoga Priscilla has shared her experience while trying to open an account with Zenith Bank Nigeria where she was denied because they claimed she's not up to 18years yet. See her post:

"I went to Zenith Bank yesterday with my Int'l passport to open a savings account, they said I can't cuz I'm not up to 18. I jejely carry my money to Diamond Bank, and I'm patiently waiting for my account number.Nothing is impossible in Nigeria"

The young lady who wont give up on her quest allegedly headed to Diamond Bank to open the same account, and according to her it's done already and she's waiting for her account number.

They are not archaic laws. A child is not experienced/responsible enough to make a fair legal agreement with an adult. The laws were actually made to protect the child from being cheated.

A child who wants to make agreements like that needs to have adult support and supervision.

Same reason why children should not be allowed to drink alcohol, smoke or engage in sex with other adults (statutory rape) Children/Teenagers generally do not make the best decisions because they are inexperienced.

You won't believe it I went to that same zenith bank some years back to open an account with 40 k as a student ooo mind u, them say it must be 50k with my id card. I was to travel that same day to school. I jejely went to Uba and 20 mins I left with every thing got my ATM then in school it was transferred.. So I understand it very well.. Mind you I was above 20 as of then ooo
