Hope I am not seeing signs of mental fatigue, because it is well known that when a typical Nigerian runs out of logical points to make, he begins to resort to personal assault.
I would gladly send a mature teenager 16yr old to make my deals for me rather than adults who do not know their rights from their lefts. The reason people wait till 18 to get their drivers license is because that is the law, a lot of these teenagers start driving as early as 15yrs, many of them even manual transmission that take adults years to master. I am not saying they shouldn't obey the law, what I'm saying is that the law should be adapted to meet the changing times. A true progessive looks at the way forward, not hopelessly clinging to the traditional ways. Tell me just one thing that an 18yr old can do today that 16yrs cannot?

In Japan the age of consent to ( sexual activities) is as low as 13yrs!
While voting age in most countries including Nigeria remains 18yrs, it has already been long reduced to 16yrs in Argentina, Brazil, Scotland, etc, and 17yrs in Ethiopia, Sudan, and parts of USA in certain instances.

It was joint account with my Mom. When i clocked 18, i assumed full rights to the account

They are not archaic laws. A child is not experienced/responsible enough to make a fair legal agreement with an adult. The laws were actually made to protect the child from being cheated.

A child who wants to make agreements like that needs to have adult support and supervision.

Same reason why children should not be allowed to drink alcohol, smoke or engage in sex with other adults (statutory rape) Children/Teenagers generally do not make the best decisions because they are inexperienced.

Many of these archaic laws need to be revisited.

You shouldn't be able to open an account if you are under 18 as you cannot sign a contract if you are below the legal age. Ordinarily, you should have a guardian sign on your behalf.
