LagosismyHome:I really appreciate your concern and time spent answering. I am more educated by your explanation. I have started the re-issue process this morning. Do you help people with the WU SEVIS payment, or I should refer back to Walspring for this? I would want to complete the payment in about 40hrs from now latest. I will print all you mentioned. Thank you as I await your response |

cosxzbay:You're amazed? Checkout GRE thread for details. You will learn a lot from how such decision was made. But, the real gist is her focus and thoroughness in getting those full packages. An inspiration and a guide for upcoming dudes. You will learn a lot studying her profile. She epitomized a true scholar. |

LadunaI:No right thinking individual will reject UniPenn for UniV, it has to be PenState and not UniPenn. |

femi321:Yes it is PennState, but the decision on where to attend does not and should not solely rest on the school ranking. |

iCool:Everything UniV will offer you UPenn will offer and maybe much more especially when you have funding for both option.... but Pennstate ok that a different conversation |
| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by iCool(m): 1:24pm On May 22, 2017 |
LagosismyHome:Let me find and paste her explanation... Even if we replace PennState with UPenn, her decision would still have made sense for her particular situation. I might sound crazy but after 2 sleepless nights of thorough contemplation, I think I will have to resign the Penn State appointment. Yes, I have spent about 300k to send transcripts, ship I-20 and paid reservation on an apartment lease but it's really about what I want out of the PhD program. The stipend Virginia is offering is actually a little less than Penn but it's a GRA that is guaranteed till I finish my program so long as I maintain 3.0GPA, and the research fellowship covers all tuition fees and health insurance. On top of that, my POI guarantees funding for travel for conferences, and pushes his students to deliver poster presentations and publish papers every year. He seems to invest a lot of time in his students and I really like that. And in that department, there are 3 other Profs in the same research area. That encourages sharing of information and the students can always assist and encourage each other. |

joeluv:No need to feel like a block head bro, it will take time but you would master it eventually. To start with, you have to download and install R, Tinn R and R studio. Download R here: https://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/ and R Studio here: https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download2/ You can download Tinn R (Just like a text pad for R) and search for tutorials on R online, I can help from there. Best. |

iCool:Sure thanks for sharing and she definitely has valid reasons..... But I think the correction is that it Pennstate package Vs Uni V and not UPenn |

femi321:If you are a first class graduate or someone that just wrote WAEC, this might help you in achieving your dream. If you graduated with a high 2:1, If I were you I would apply too, you never can tell. All the best. |

| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by Nobody: 2:04pm On May 22, 2017 |
iCool:The choice still lies with you but If I were you, I will consider Uni of Houston,Auburn or Louisiana State University because of the Alunmi network, ranking and job prospect in the City. LSU and Houston are very good schools with company affiliations. Don't really know much about Auburn in Alabama Then again, If you get funding in any of the schools you listed and you didn't get from the others, I guess destiny has made the decision for you already. I will choose the school with funding, schooling here without funding is HELL if your dad is not one of the politicians back home. |
| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by LagosismyHome(f): 2:24pm On May 22, 2017 |
iCool:There is a school in Louisiana with a good on campus recruitment , although I think it the school in Lafayette and not Baton Rouge .. For me Louisiana will be high on which to accept , although I am just looking at oncampus recruiting prospect after graduation and not overall package |

femi321: @ bolded. My brother, decision hasn't been easy. No funding from LSU and Auburn, had some issues with my application that resulted in late admission. I still deh look sha - around 18k due to partial funding to attend Tamuk or UofH for a year versus 39k to attend Auburn for same duration. LagosismyHome:I need about 34k to attend there. Wish I got partial funding. |
| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by Nobody: 2:40pm On May 22, 2017 |
iCool:You got partial funding in Uni of Houston? If yes that's your best bet. Uni of Houston is a good school in a great town with plenty of Nigerians. Its home away from home. This 18k, does it including living expenses? |
| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by LagosismyHome(f): 2:48pm On May 22, 2017 |
iCool:well for sure go with what makes the most financial sense ......... a school is what you make out of it . Yes some schools make it easier if they have a great oncampus recruitment but hey work with what you have and shine your eyes well . NSBE used to be a good networking those days but not sure of the current status if people actually still get jobs there . But however you decide, You just be hustling for Job after school from day 1 so your eyes and ears will be everywhere . |
