Vo: then why SAU ?
Me: the core of my decision for choosing SAU is because I'll be part of an ongoing research that forcuses on cyber security under professor ..*** .. group .. I mean it's quite obvious about the current situation of our country Nigeria in terms of cyber security, so being part of this course will equip me with the expertise that'll enable me thwart cyber attack and ensure Nigeria is safe as far as cyber security is concerned

I want to say a big thank you to God almighty, I know he answers prayer especially after I was denied visit or tourist visa last year.. I love you mum for the support, (my family... siblings) my uncle Sheldon and uncle Dan for their support both financially and with prayers , God bless them for me ,to @texreem who gave me a mock interview a month before this day ... thank you baba.. to @osazee, whom I learnt a lot from.. God bless your hustle bro.. I'll read your transcript soon, to bimpe.. my baddest guy, you contributed.. and to Lagosismyhome, though you refused to review my transcript because of your busy schedule, I thank you for your contributions here .. I've learnt a lot.. I asked God for a stress free interview and that's what he did .. thanks y'all.. and I wish every fAll applicants success ...

Oh boy! Looks like an acceptance speech! You nailed it with the bolded! Congrats bro!!

VISA APPROVED THIS MORNING:

My appointment was for 6:30am in Lagos. I was surprised by the crowd I met there. Anyways, while in the hall I noticed many people were denied visa, even some students. I was at the last lane and I noticed the last four people before me were also denied visa. I became anxious and starting thinking about all I memorized, but when it got to my turn I became blank, I forgot all I memorized, my brain was like a formatted disk. I lost confidence, but I maintained eye contact and smiling face.

ME: Good morning (*with a shaky voice*)

VO: Pass me your passport, sevis receipt and i20

ME: *I obliged*

VO: How did you get to know about this school and why this particular school?

ME: (*I forgot what to say and paused for about 3 seconds before responding*)Two friends who are alumni of the school recommended it and I did my research on the school by......vo cuts in*

VO: What did your friends tell you about this school?

ME: My friends already knew my preferred area of research concentration and they made me understand that the school is well equipped to fulfil my research aspirations and the school’s curriculum structure aligns with my research area on sustainable energy development and smart grid, which is basically…...vo cuts in*

VO: What is the curriculum structure and which courses will I be taking?

ME:I listed the courses..... vo cuts in* (Before I finished listing the courses, VO approved my visa)

I was shocked, my mind was elevated and I didn’t even hear any other thing the VO said afterwards. I was so joyous in my mind…..
Anyways, this is my story, I thank everyone here for the transcripts, vital information and assistance directly and indirectly. smiley grin

I want to make a big shout out to God and also to everyone on this thread who has in one way or the other contributed to the success of people on this forum....my visa was granted this morning May 22nd on my first trial. Here is a brief stats about my educational background.
GRE 312, TOEFL 99, CGPA 3.52/5 (was never a serious student only read to pass exams nothing else, became serious minded during my NYSC after i was mentored by a man i aspired to be like. Graduated in 2012 joined one of the biggest oil and gas servicing/construction company in the world in 2016). I got a fully funded phd program in chemical engineering without any assistance despite been discouraged by friends about my low cgpa and no little research background.

VO: So why NMSU?

ME: Because of my interest in working with Prof. Hongmei on her research project

VO: Whats the title of her research?

Me: Modelling and simulation of multiphase fluid flow in porous media using computational fluid dynamics

VO: How many schools did you apply to?

Me: 7 ( I really did apply to all 7 schools, one acceptance, 4 denials, 2 waitlist)

VO: What is your dissertation topic?

Me: I don't know yet but i will be working with prof. Hongmei on her research.

VO: Why did you choose NMSU?

Me: Because of my interest in prof. Hongmei's research and because it is related to my current job in Nigeria

VO: Where do you work?

ME:XXXXXXXX Nigeria Limited

VO: What do you do there?

ME: I work as a research and process development engineer

Then he nodded and said congratulations, I'm going to approve your visa for studying in the USA, Pick up your passport in this location after three business days, and I said thank you and ran out with a smile. It can only be GOD... I prayed just like I did on other days, I did not fast though, I gave alms, but mostly to broke and poor relatives (charity i believe begins at home), I fulfilled every promise i made to GOD.

P.S: Not a single document was requested.

Congratulations! You failed, but you refuse to give up. At the end, all we need is ONE acceptance.

When it comes to IVY league, that statement in bold doesn't apply. NOBODY says No to an IVY League, at least nobody with a thinking brain

It depends what you mean by 'Ivy league' though. If I have to choose between Caltech or Harvard for any Engineering program (undergrad or grad), Caltech wins hands down.

cheesy cheesy

Help me make a choice then for Industrial engineering, I got admitted to all 5 -

Lamar Univ, Beaumont, Texas

Texas A&M Univ, Kingsville

Univ of Houston, Texas

Auburn Univ, Alabama

Louisiana State Univ, Baton Rouge

I listed in the order I was accepted.

I'd go for the bolded, if funding won't be an issue. Disclaimer: I'm affiliated with LSU.

But for real, Texas and Louisiana are key states for things industrial, especially down here in the South.

Good Day to Everyone fantastic job you people are doing on here, I need someone to enlighten me on this school funding because am yet to get my admission granted but I have sent all the necessary documents to them, so my question is: will school confirm the funding for me before admission is granted or after the processing of my I-20 Letter.

All depends on the school Bro...
But it could:
1. Come with the admission letter
2. It could come via your prospective profs weeks after you get admission.
3. You could be on a waiting list and then get an offer later.
However if your I20 is sent before the offer comes then you might have to request a new I20 reflecting the funding.
But if yoybare out of time you can take the offer letter with you for the interview and explain yourself.

Go to the school website ...you see the topics that the professors in that school have either worked on or working on. That is a guide on what the research topic might be in that school and you use it

@neayho, congratulations on your Erasmus mundus scholarship and I understand how u feel as I once chased that scholarship but please listen to her advice not to waste this your high CGPA on Erasmus as I thank God I didn't go to Europe for lot of reasons.
@lagosismyhome... My little issue is that am trying to settle down for a partial tuition scholarship with almost same CGPA(3.66/4.00) WES equivalent. I think I understand a bit why I got that but am not convinced enough with the reason am giving myself so am trying to clear my doubt. I already mail you I will give you full download and of my plans thru mail.

Hope to read your reply soon
LagosismyHome:

Dont let this your good cgpa waste at all... with this gpa the easiest way to have gotten funding is to Write GRE, score high and then apply for masters in the USA and not applying without GRE

Anyway since you still want to apply for phd in the US ... then best to take GRE. If u can study hard for it and write it before the master program start that would be better. Send me a pm if you need help in paying for GRE. You have a good gpa . You should have mentioned the above back in sept and i would have sorted you out based on this gpa for sure

The problem with Europe is the lack of english.... yes it help that you can speak english but if you don't speak the local language first and then english as a bonus its a struggle to get a good job... They love their local language and a lot of European countries have high unemployment Italy yes and Spain too

But if you are using it as a temporary passage because of scholarship that fine..also once u do well academically u neverknow where the door can open

Its not a waste. It's even good to experince the best of both worlds (Europe and Amercia) I know someone that finished his PHD in one of the top French schools and now has a Job with IMF in DC. Your publications go along way in helping one secure such jobs in the USA.

You are so on point, they usually employ those that understand there language first although I understand Deutsch to some extent cos I went to there school in Naija to learn the language but I still find there general unemployment rate as a NO NO for me so I opted out

Germany has the best employment rate in Europe I believe but they are very much interested In those that can speak there local language.

Each school has its own policy but most schools do not require you to pay anything some schools do.... you have to check directly with your school and see what the policy is
