this best thing is to decentralise power so that each state or region can generate their power from any source they deemed fit or concession power to foreign companies to manage for nigeria. this country can never manage anything national efficiently. tribalism would never permit efficiency at national level. why are we deceiving ourselves here for many years? in Dubai it is foreign companies that are managing her power and there is nothing like power failure. nigeria is just a shit hole for corruption and tribalism. it is regrettably that most nigeria youths today may live their lifespan without witnessing one week non power failure in nigeria yet they are dreaming of going to heaven. 2 Likes |

I have said it times without number that we don't have leaders in this country. Nigeria is like a ship without a captain. And like a ship without a captain is heading in no particular direction—we are directionless. If Nigeria continues with these crop of shallow minded individuals, we are truly heading no where. |

Now I believe Fashola can acknowledge that "to produce electricity is now rocket science"? BTW what is a SAN doing as power minister? |
Re: No Hope For Nigeria Power Sector – Senate by Nobody: 9:33am On May 25, 2017 |
This Minister of power is a worst clueless, minister we ever had. He don't even know where to begin, as he was campaigning to be given opportunity. The wheel of power its handed over to him, it's nearly four years since they had handed over power to. Electricity in Nigeria is being managed by nonengineering but by useless politicians.

Re: No Hope For Nigeria Power Sector – Senate by Reference(m): 9:53am On May 25, 2017 |
Mcowubaba: Yes, in a way. They can only go into partnership with the gencos or discos. No one has the permit outside the act to generate, transmitt or distribute for public use.... in a nutshell. You cannot give your neighbour electricity and collect money. It is illegal. |
Re: No Hope For Nigeria Power Sector – Senate by bakynes(m): 9:58am On May 25, 2017 |
Reference:The problem of Power is in the hands of the DISCOs because their facilities is unable to accept the power been transmitted by the Gencos. They have refused to invest into building new facilities, which will be able to accommodate the power supplied to them. If they can't accommodate common 4000MW, how will they be able to accommodate a bigger one even if Fashola builds a 10,000MW Dam. When I heard in 2013 the GEJ govt wanted to privatize the sector, I was happy thinking they will invite foreign electricity companies (like Gazprom,GDF Suez etc) to come build their facilities, so we can choose who to patronize just like the Telecom industry today (MTN,GLO,ETISALAT etc) at least we are enjoying it now. Not knowing he was selling the old maribond facilities of PHCN to cronies to manage. They signed a legal contract, so it cannot be easily revoked because of legal implications. So we have to wait till the contract expires before this present govt knows what to do next. 1 Like 1 Share |

lailo: Fashola was aware of the dodgy privatisation when he made his criticism http://thenationonlineng.net/to-have-stable-electricity-vote-out-pdp-fashola/ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/fashola-faults-fg-n213bn-power-intervention-fund/ How do you criticise a person only to get into the person's shoes and do exactly what you criticized that person for doing if not that you are; A. A career hypocrite B. Bereft of honour and good conscience C. As clueless as the person you criticised ab initio D. A reckless individual with verbal diarrhea Fashola on getting to office after flagging the fact that the privatisation is dodgy now categorically states that he WILL NOT cancel the contracts “The Federal Government will respect and uphold the contract it has been committed to and inherited from the past administration. “I am not in charge of power sector to revoke the privatisation agreement signed three years ago,” the minister said. According to him, the government has nothing to gain from sending investors in the power sector parking, following calls from some quarters asking for revocation of privatisation of the sector. “If those calling for revisiting of the privatisation of the power sector meant to say improving the governance, performance and efficiency, then, I am here for that. “If revisiting it will mean that Distribution Companies (DISCOs) should open up and investments should come in, I am for that. “If it means that the entire power sector will become very efficient, I will support it. “But, I will not support cancelling of the contracts we had with them. “If we revoke privatisation of the sector, investors will carry their bags and go, they will tell others that Nigeria is not reliable for investment,’’ Fashola said. The last three sentences in bold show the acute hypocrisy of the man - sacrificing present integrity for future integrity (I hope you get this) https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/business/fg-will-not-revoke-privatisation-of-nation-s-power-sector-fashola/171123.html I hope you are better informed 3 Likes |

Who will bring to an end the power crises looming the nation and declare state of emergency in power as they declare state of emergency in insurgency or crises proned areas? Even Fashola does not know what to do, having lumped three technical Extra Ministerial Agencies that is the hope of common man to a lawyer who does not know what a BILL OF ENGINEERING MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION (BEME) is all about. However, if senate does not know what to do, they should all resign and lets close the bi- cameral chambers and bring in NATIONAL CONFERENCE THAT WILL BE MEETING ONCE A MONTH. GOSH!!!!NIGERIA IN SERIOUS JEOPARDY! GOD HELP US. |
Re: No Hope For Nigeria Power Sector – Senate by ofwest47(m): 10:10am On May 25, 2017 |
If DISCOS still continue to be in charge of power distribution in Nigeria, the country will continue to be in darkness. The only solution is for the senate to make a law to dismantle them as they know nothing about power system. |
Re: No Hope For Nigeria Power Sector – Senate by Mcowubaba: 10:10am On May 25, 2017 |
Reference: Hmmmmm. Who made all this reckless laws and policies So a State Government can't invest in power generation solely without involving gencos and discos, very appalling. Too much bottlenecks and Bureaucracy in this Country.. Can't this policy be reversed? Or amended.... Anyways, the big Question is "How many State Governments are even ready AND WILLING to generate and distribute Electricity" the haven't finished paying salaries and undertaking white elephant projects, plus the funds the will embezzle.... One of the biggest problem of Nigeria is that more than 70-80% percent of our annual budget goes to Recurrent expenditure, only less than 30% goes for Capital projects, how can a nation function like this? Another issue to look at, even the 20-30% used for Capital projects are Not properly utilized. Nigeria is doomed for now, no remedy. |
Re: No Hope For Nigeria Power Sector – Senate by Reference(m): 10:15am On May 25, 2017 |
bakynes: I agree but that is still not ideas. Ideas represent a new thinking that solves problems. Yes, they are 'cronies' or whatever, yes they have not invested (not entirely true), yes their contracts maybe watertight but wtat are the ideas to get round these obstacles. This is what governments are elected to do. Solve problems. If there were no problems in life, there will be no need for governments. If there were no challenges, there is no need for leadership. In developed countries current problems are analysed constantly by those in government and those in opposition and solutions are proferred regularly to societal issues. So that whosoever gets into power knows the challenges and has a working solution ar hand. Government is not the place to 'learn work'. Theresa May had a vision for brexit and a working solution to go eith it. That was the basis of her ascension. That is why to date you don't hear blaming past governments here and there. I hope Nigerians can fly through the haze of ethnocentrism in the future and ask serious questions before giving power at the ballot. If not real change is just a mirage. |

Mcowubaba: Well, I will tell you, one of the attractions of the process was the exclusivity of the business. Ask yourself why government decided to sell just 5 GSM licenses in 2001 and not 36, one for each state. And how successful the government has been at selling licenses for refinery development that it made more or less open to all and sundry. |
