I won't mind killing you! Waste of space, go and hustle your own. Fathers are there to train you to 18 or at most 21.

My father abandoned me and my siblings
just because he will soon die and he need to plan and enjoy the few years he has to spend on earth. He told my Mum that we all have our own future fend for. if we keep expecting him to pay our school fees, buy cloths and feed us complete thrice and many more that we are joking.. He also told my elderst brother that the money he has is for him and his wife. I thought the joke was a plank.. Not until when my two elder brother left the home to no destination.. I sat to share issues with my mum who pointed out vividly that my Daddy made the right decision.
So i wonder if that is right.. Is it only my father that has that mentality or is it a general undertaken. Someone needs a help.

My crazy thought, it may sound harsh but it will bring the best out of you quick. From your write-up, he only stop paying for education but still accommodate you, and probably still feed you.
If that's the case, he wants you to think....recently I watched "the men who built America" inside I learnt few things from Rockefeller and co in the story... most of them started from nowhere but were able to think outside the box. We have overrated university education so well that even most graduate don't even know to what purpose is the education given to them. We are so adapted to the routine, goto school, graduate and get a nice job.
Just read a topic about facebook CEO graduated from university after establishing himself.
Few weeks to my NYSC POP last yr May, my dad said I should obtain Master's form but I told him to give me sometime to see what I can do with my life. Now am doing what I didn't learn in school. I am only hoping it gets better.
As for Master's, I know few that have MSc but still engage sec sch stdnt with tutorials to meet end means.

Let me guess.

Your dad took out life insurance to cover for when you the last born turn 21. Now that you are 21 he decides to enjoy his life.

Your dad is not selfish as some people suggested. He is just telling you to become the man you are supposed to be. This may sound harsh to some but it's the reality of life. If at 21 you are still thinking like a teenager the possibility of ever becoming a man is remote.

If you follow your dad's advice you will thank him later.

Wrong Mentality, at age 50, he should be coaching his sons on how to be successful and help all his siblings to fly high and also avoid all the mistakes he made in life. Rich folks always put their sons and daughters in a vantage position so they can take over their bizness. They employ poor folks to do the dirty deals...

A good man leave inheritance for his childrens children. The simple fact is that success can come at any age, these are list of folks that still made it after age 40,

Ray Kroc spent his career as a milkshake device salesman before buying McDonald's at age 52 in 1954. He grew it into the world's biggest fast-food franchise.

Taikichiro Mori was an academic who became a real estate investor at age 51 when he founded Mori Building Company. His brilliant investments made him the richest man in the world in 1992, when he had a net worth of $13 billion.

Wally Blume had a long career in the dairy business before starting his own ice cream company, Denali Flavors, at age 57 in 1995. The company reported revenue of $80 million in 2009.

Harland Sanders, better known as Colonel Sanders, was 62 when he franchised Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1952, which he would sell for $2 million 12 years later.

Anna Mary Robertson Moses, better known as Grandma Moses, began her prolific painting career at 78. In 2006, one of her paintings sold for $1.2 million.

Harry Bernstein spent a long life writing in obscurity, achieving notoriety at long last at age 96 for his 2007 memoir "The Invisible Wall: A Love Story That Broke Barriers."

Dude it's time to brace up. You are lucky in a away because your father made his intention known to you. I left my father's house in my first year in the University. I knew how difficult it was having to asking for my secondary school tuition of N250 n vowed never to return to ask him for tuition beyond my 100L.

Never went back home till now. Some fathers believe they have the right to be irresponsible to the upbringing of their children or some of their children but believe they are deserving of love n affection from all their children but it does not work like that at least not with me so take your destiny in your hands.

There are people that will be several times more responsible to you than your father can ever be. Just be strong look out for life opportunities and take it. Each one is laced with different sort of risk but never forget survival n success is the ultimate goal.

Your Dad loves you and your brothers very much. What he has done now will make you all very independent minded and you will become better men. Today y'all will think your Dad is wicked. But remember this day, your Dad was already married at 24/25 and your elder brother has reached that stage and age. And your Dad says 'I am fuccking tired, At your Age I was already independent and married your mother and you all are depending on me'.

It is called mid-life crisis. Sorry

I read a question on quora about a guy seeking for how to start his life when his parent stopped taking his responsibilities at 19.
From most replies, it was a "way of life" to the westerners. Someone even said he was paying his parents house rent for staying with them at age 19th.

Truth is, the earlier you take your life at your hands, the better it is for you. It good and easy to achieve great with your parents help but also it not a crime if they don't and they are not self. Just hustle and pray!

Maybe there is something you guys aren't doing which they want you to do.

I thought so too but when you consider that two sons are out to unknown places, a parent should be concerned. You can make a child sit up and work for his money without going this far. They are adults that can be spoken to such that they understand the issue at hand and key into the proposed solution.

We've seen cases of children abandoning their parents in old age and giving the excuse of having fended for themselves while the parents enjoyed. I believe that it's wise to have just the number of kids you can cater for.

@Op
Maybe there's something missing in your story though. Hope we're not judging wrongly based on incomplete information.

You get kicked out of the house at 18 yrs in western countries (Europe, US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand). If you choose to remain at home after 18, then you have to contribute to rent and feeding. It is only in non western countries that you see a 21 years old demanding that their parent still take care of them.

What a ridiculous excuse. At 50, he is still young. There're plenty of 50 year olds who're working and living their lives. There're plenty of 60, even 70 year olds who're still working and doing their thing.
