Freda adjusted her long red Vera Wang dress which had a slit from the ground to the knee in the front and she matched it with gold Christian Louboutin strap heels and a gold clutch. She packed her weave in a bun and added a little powder to her face.

She was done staying indoors and brooding about her failure. She had to set things straight. She needed to meet people and apologise. She needed to wet the right hands. She needed her reputation back.

But firstly she had to visit her first and favourite daughter. Her heart bled when she remembered Shiv hadnt bothered to even contact her all this while. Shivani hadnt cared.

But she wasnt going to see her. If Mohammed wasnt going to go to the mountain then the mountain needed to go to Mohammed.

'you look good for a woman who's the talk of the whole community' That was the first thing that rolled off her daughter's lips. Her heart skipped. Shiv would never say that to her.

'it seems you aint even affected with everything thats been happening, i see' She drawled.

'Shivani...'

'do you realise you aint even human?' Her daughter rested her body on the banister and scoffed 'what type of a mother sells her grandchild for a sum of ten million dollars?'

Freda raised a brow. What was Shiv talking about?

'....and hides it from her daughter?' She completely alighted the stairs 'i cant believe i've been blind all these while, thinking you were a saint and thinking that everything you did, you did because you wanted the best for us. But i just realised that you were just selfish. You're very selfish mum! And everything you did, you did for yourself. Our happiness never mattered to you at all. You married me off as the seventh wife of Dike making me believe you wanted the best for me. You made me abandon the man meant for me and went after another that doesnt even care too much about you. I had a bright future back in the states but what happened? You dragged me back here and sold me off to the royal family only for me to discover few days ago that you were paid five million naira! The same way you sold off your granddaughter, you sold me off as well. You're evil! Evil! I hate you!'

Freda was taken aback by her daughter's out burst

Veronica stared at her phone. Why was Freda calling her? She couldnt remember the last time they spoke to each other. Her left hand which she had raised to slap Kelly hung in the air as she stared at her phone.

She brought down her hand and eyed Kelly disdainfully 'you're just lucky. Your foolish grandmother's calling me for God knows what. That woman will never be satisfied! Greedy bitch!'

She moved away from the terrified kid and headed to the terrace. The phone had stopped ringing by this time but before she could get to the terrace, it rang again.

She picked immediately 'hello?'

'hello Vero, how far?' Her voice wasnt very cheerful.

'i'm fine, why are you calling? Kelly is fine if thats the reason you called and i have something very important to attend to. I'll call you back later'

'Vero wait...' Freda said just in time as she was about hanging up.

Vero scoffed 'what?'

'i...we need Kelly back'

'are you kidding me?'

'no dear i'm not kidding. Your money will be refunded back to you. We just need the kid back'

Veronica couldnt help the laughter that had already crawled to her throat 'you're aint being serious'

'something big is happening in my family Vero, i'm pleading with everything i've got'

'Kelly is not some kind of goods that can be bought and returned at any time. I already bought her from you and i'm not returning her back Freda. You should have known you would be needing her back before selling her for the whooping sum of ten million dollars, do you know how much that is exactly?'

'please Vero....'

'i'm not returning Kelly! And if ever she's returned back to you, then it would be her remains. Goodbye' She hung up and when her phone rang again, she busied the call.

She hissed and dropped the phone on the railing. She saw the remaining wine she had left earlier that day and downed it in one gulp. Alcohol wasnt good for her system at all and it shortened her lifestyle everyday but she didnt care. Her life was bleeped up.

Then she turned and left for her room.

Kelly crawled out of her hiding place to where her mum had dropped her phone. It was ringing with the caller Id Freda. She suspected it was the person who called before, her said grandmother. She pressed the recieve button.

'grandma?'

***
Freda's heart skipped a beat at the sound of the tiny voice whom she suspected was Kelly.

'i want to get out of here grandma. Can you help me? Mummy's treating me so badly...' She could hear the tears in her voice 'i and Junior. And daddy is not always home. Please come take us out of here before she kills us'

'i...' She swallowed hard 'where are you?' She knew that was the dumbest thing to say but she had already lost her voice.

'Hamburg' The little girl replied.

'i...' Shiv snatched the phone from her mother 'hello? Hello, who's on the line? Kelly is that you?'

'yes'

'i'm your aunt, aunt Shivani. What do you say the problem is?' She spoke hastily.

'i...mummy is treating us badly. I and Junior'

'who's Junior?'

'my younger brother. Will you come for us? I'll send you our address immediately' She hung up.

Shivani wanted to talk more but the girl already ended the call.

'have you seen what you caused? Have you seen the agony you've put the poor girl through?' She spoke angrily not caring that her mum was shedding tears already 'just stop shedding those crocodile tears and find a way to get that girl out of that cage you put her!'

'what...what did she say?'

Shiv swallowed deciding to be calm 'she said she's sending an address'

'what do we do with it?'

'you're asking me that kind of a question! Why are you even asking for my opinion, did you ask for it when you decided to sell her off twelve years ago? That girl deserves an apology alongside her mother. And when i say mother, i mean Mia'

'are you saying i go to Germany to pick her up?'

'alongside the ten million which is to be refunded back to her parents. You can afford it i know'

'oh God' She rested her head on the wall and closed her eyes.

Her phone beeped in Shiv's hands.

It was a text:
"Lagenhorner Chaussee 600
22419 Hamburg, Germany. Please come get me quickly. I need you"

Shiv read aloud then handed the phone to her mum.

'you might need this. Book a flight quickly and pick up the girl. Else i give the address to Mia and she picks the girl up. You know what that means'

Shiv turned to leave.

'have you gotten the address?' Mia asked as she sat beside Florence. She had already packed her bags and booked her flight.

Florence nodded.
She had already hacked into Diego Fataveli's account, the state in Germany which he resided in, his hospital and house address.
She also digged up his wife's boutique's address. She scribbled everything in a paper and handed it to Mia.

'so what you gonna do when you get there?' Florence asked staring at her friend who looked a mess.

'i kidnap my daughter and get my ass down here'

'you're kidnapping her?'

'i have no other choice. When we arrive here, then i'll tell her everything. I hope she understands'

'you're stealing her from her happy and perfect family, the one she grew up in and already used to. You took her from the country she knows and brought her down to Nigeria which is foreign to her and then you expect her to understand some sick explanation of....'

'okay maybe the kidnap isnt a good idea, but i have no choice you know' She sighed.

'why not try winning her heart? Sound better than your sicko idea'

'win her heart? Enlighten me more' She crossed her legs and looked at her wristwatch, her flight was to move by 6pm.

'why not try entering the house? As a cleaner or a lesson teacher. Then you win the girl's heart, coax her into coming to Nigeria with you and....'

'are you even listening to yourself? How do you expect me to achieve all of that within the three days i plan to spend in Germany? Mind you my pocket isnt very bogus. I'm managing with the little i have'

'spend a month there babe! I have money and i'm ready to borrow you enough. I just want you having your daughter back and be happy'

'but your idea isnt working!'

'and yours wont work either! Do you want your daughter to hate you. And always think you stole her from her parents?'

'what if her parents recognises me? They came for christmas few years ago. I didnt change much'

Florence nodded thoughtfully 'there's something called disguise. I have a red wig upstairs, wear heavy glasses and always apply costume make-up, add pads to your butts and booty, make sure you're heavily endowed than they know you to be. And most especially, change your name. They'll never know its you. They'll only say you look like someone they know. And do not ever tell them you're coming from Nigeria. You spend most of your life in Italy and you already spent seven years in Germany. You grab?'

Mia sighed heavily.

***
'i already booked a flight Shiv, 6pm this evening' Freda said over the phone as her maid packed her bags 'i'm heading to the airport now. Its almost 5:30, will you meet me there?'

'no. Its your mess and you'll have to clean it alone. I'm right here waiting for you and if anything comes up, then you have to let me know'

'Shiv, this isnt fair, what you're doing to me. You aint the Shivani i used to know. Where's the Shivani that loves her mother more than anything in the world. I know i'm not perfect. I know i've made some mistakes but most of the things i did, i did for the welfare of you and your sister. I love you both and i didnt want to see any of you suffer. Mia didnt need a child that time. It was going to distract her from her education and we also needed to sponsor you abroad. We needed the money and that was why i did what i did. How long will it take to atone for my sins? Mia has left me and now you too?'

'i havent left you at all mum. And i hold nothing against you. I just want you to right every wrong you did and then set things straight again, include refunding the five million you were paid by whoever did'

'Shiv! That would render me broke! I'm refunding ten million dollars and already and its digging a hold in my account and now you want me to refund the five million? How much will be left? I cant do that one, i'm sorry'

Shiv hung up.

Freda stared at her phone and nearly hissed.

**
Florence helped Mia bring down her luggages from the boot of the car. Then she hugged her friend 'take care of yourself bae. And if you need anything, just hollar me'

'thank you dear. You take care of yourself and my regards to Angela'

'kosi problem ni. I'll miss you. Especially now we dont know how long you'll be staying'

'two weeks. A month tops'

'aww. Feels like ten years'

Mia chuckled and pecked her friend on both cheeks 'bye babe'

'bye you too' She picked her bag and left.

***
'ma, your flight has been announced' Her driver told her.

Freda wore her Louis Vuitton shade and picked up the small ecolac box with her 'you'd better drive carefully. Nothing happens to the car else you pay. And tell Chine to take good care of the house before i come'

'how long will you be staying?'

'i dont know yet. A week maybe'

'okay ma'

Freda walked away.

And both mother and daughter boarded the same plane without them knowing.
