She just had a baby in January but when she went to register for a birth certificate at Home Affairs, they told her that she should go to Lancet for a DNA test before they can proceed with the registration.

i think it's a brilliant! idea! it will help with holding men who thinks it's okay to go about getting women pregnant and abandoning them responsible unless it's just to victimise foreigners residents in SA.

What do you by, unless it's to victimize? How does knowing you aren't raising a child that's not yours victimization, South African or otherwise? Because they can't claim child support unless it's filed, in this case, by the mother. Noone else has that authority. The way I see it, it works to protect everyone involved because guys are also victims of lying females regarding paternity.

But sadly, there are some guys who prefer their children to be like flour & be self-raising This puts a lot of strain on tax payers because it means the govt. should now take over responsibility for the welfare of these children. Things are changing though, as more women are going to court to put these deadbeats to shame. Reason why I think they came up with this law that requires the state to be privy of who fathered the child, so there won't be any false claims or confusion should the mother decide to seek child support.

I can understand if you don't like the impersonal and transactional nature of the whole thing. I just thought things would be easier for you that way.
