happymumtobe:
Hello everyone ..thanks for your help concerning my mum as I was scared she won't be able to defend herself enough..I prepared well enough with her and she went for her interview this morning..I gave her my visa page data page flight ticket doctors appointment and she went with her statement of account but none of this document was checked.
Vo..where are you going.
Mum..Houston
Vo..what are you going there for.
Mum...to assist my daughter that plans on leaving end of June to have her baby..I plan to join her end of July and will be spending two weeks with her..I have her visa here flight ticket doctors appointment.
Vo..what do you do
Mum..am a teacher.
Vo...how many children do you have.
Mum..4
Vo...have you ever travelled out of the country before.
Mum..been to dubai severally uk and going to Canada by July then from canada to us to assist her.
Vo...gave her white paper.
Mum...asked is that fine ..can I go.
Vo..your visa has been approved.

Dropped my mum off by 7 for her interview by 8.15 and waited for her at the park was surprised when I got a call from her 8.30 that she was done.

I told her not to give the vo one word answer and always elaborate..everything they asked her was what we prepared for and even more.

Thank you all for the support..will be travelling in two weeks and will come back to share the almighty dreded Houston poe experience.

Iong post alert:

In the spirit of giving back, I'd like to share my experience at the dreaded Houston POE. Even though I feel hurt that since I join this forum, the 2 post I had posted for inquiries have been deleted, and I really don't why.
It's all good, cos I still was diligent in reading the threads and equipping myself.

I got my visa on a vigin passport in Feb 2017 and didn't know I was pregnant until weeks later, and when asked by the Vo then I said I wasn't. Was doing research online and bumped on this platform, where I keenly followed the Change of Intent info. I sent my change of intent sometime in April as I was planning to travel in June. Got the reply..."I'm not obligated to tell them, but be able to prove at POE I can handle my bills etc"

To cut the long story...Got to the airport(Abuja) June 4 while checking in at Lufthansa, the lady asked if I was pregnant I said yes, she asked if I had my fit to fly, I said yes, she said I'll need the port healthy cert. I told her I'm only 22 weeks and according to their online info, I wouldn't need that except from 35weeks, she insisted. I went to the portal and the lady said it was 2k, I said I thought it was 1k5, she said no, I just gave her the 2k. She took my temperature and BP and gave me the receipt.
Finished everything and we took off by 10:20pm for Frankfurt. Food was horrible- I begin purge for plane. Thank God I sat close to the lavatory. 4hrs layover and we were Houston bound - I no gree chop again, just asked for their dry bread, butter with Coke.

Landed at Houston June 5 around 1:30pm US time (just like I read here) target one young innocent looking CBP guy and stayed on his queue...

CBP- Good afternoon ma'am, passport plz?
Me- Good afternoon (hands it)
Cbp- why are you in the US
Me- Vacation and Childbirth
(looking a bit disoriented and was signalling for a colleague)
Cbp- How long are you staying
Me- 5months
Me - I have made some deposit at the hospital and I have correspondence with my doctor.
Cpb- plz let me have them. (Still calling his colleauge)
Me- (hands them to him)
At this time the colleague comes and he explains to him- This is her 1st time in the US and she plans to give birth, these are correspondence with her doctor and deposit receipt...
Cbp2 - who will you be staying with
Me- my sister in Dallas.
Cbp2 - Are you giving birth in Dallas
Me- Yes, Baylor Scott and White Hospital is also in Dallas.
Cbp2- during your interview, did you start this intention?
Me- no, because I didn't know at the time, but I sent a change of intent letter (reaching for the reply) and this was the reply I got.
He takes his time to read it and hands it back.
Cbp2 - I see you have paid $1000 deposit, how much is everything going to cost u?
Me- about $6k5
Cbp2 - V or Cs
Me- V.
Cbp1- I see you have $8k5 with you.
Me- yes, should I show you.
Cbp2- yes, but be careful, you don't want to call any attention to yourself.
Showed them in my purse
Cbp2- all 100bills
Me- yes.
CBP 2- How did you get all this cash
Me- part of my savings from salary and most from my husband.
Cbp2- is your husband joining you
Me- yes, much later
Cbp1- what do you do?
Me- Program and Communications Officer with....
Cbp1- Your husband?
Me- He is bleep bleep at.....
Cbp1- plz place your fingers on the machine
CBP2- make sure you keep all your receipt, cos we will request for it the next time you come. Also, do not accept any medicare here cos it will affect you visa and return to the states.
Welcome to the US (CBP1 was stamping my passport already)

Went to find my United Airline for my connecting flight to Dallas Forth Worth. After plenty delay, I reach home finially.

A word of advice - be confident and carry plenty money.

Ps: Don't blame your family, friends and relatives abroad. They dont have the info you want because they don't need it (their life na easy one as citizens), and you have to politely educate them, before you become Mrs know know and oversabi for their own country. My sisters will tell me, "we no know ooo", do your research and we will help you verify here.

many thanks to everyone who has contributed on this platform . Your experiences has help naive JJC like me. We're expecting our baby 1St week in October. First appointment is this weekend. Keep us in your prayers.

Good day Everyone, I heard a lot of testimonies from this forum. This is my first post as I am a first time mum too. I need help securing an affordable accommodation in Inglewood California. As I already found a hospital and doctor.
My second option is Dallas, where I got accommodation but the hospital and doctor I got are not very affordable. Kindly assist. I am a September mum to be. God bless you. Thank you

My passport is still in my maiden name too. But it's the name you fill on the birth certificate form in the hospital for the baby that will reflect on the birth certificate. I filled my name the way it's written on my passport and then filled my husband's name as the father. The certificate came out with his last name as the baby's last name too.

Depends on the airline. Some airlines like Qatar requires you to download a form from their website and give it to your doctor to fill and sign. For BA, you simply present the letter from your doctor stating how far gone you are at the time of travel, number of fetus and that you are fit to fly.

You can check Turkish website for their pregnancy policy. Am only sure about BA, they accept up to 36weeks for a singleton.

Okay! I'm fully relaxed now..
Here's my traveling and POE experience
I left Nigeria on the 1St of June via Qatar..bought my return ticket #360k....take off time was meant to be 2:15pm but was delayed by an HR...I was asked to go to port health for a test which I did and paid #1500.
Flight was smooth to Doha..was suppose to have a 2HR stop over at Doha but we didn't spend up to 45min before we boarded for new york.I only showed port health certificate during check in at Doha...no cbp approached me...flight to JFK NY was very smooth and long..on arrival I did my self service afterwards queued ...the queue wasn't that long and there were just 2 cbp officers 1 American man and 1 chinko man..the American was just passing everyone without too many questions but the chinko spent more than 10mins with each person..so while I was praying not to go to the chinko ll and behold twas my turn to face the chinko guy...

Me: Good morning
Chinko: no response
Then I gave him my passport
Chinko: why are you here
Me: vacation and childbirth
Chinko: really! Have you contacted a Doctor
Me: yes in Houston and I handed him my correspondence
Chinko: oh you are still going to Houston..okay..how much are you gonna spend on hospital bill
Me: about #6500
Chinko: oh OK cos it's self pay right
Me: Yea..
Chinko: stamped me in for 6months and he asked me to proceed to get my luggage and then pronounced my name in a funny way..and said I thought he wouldn't be able to pronounce my name right..
We both laughed and that was it.
My egusi was seized cos twasnt blended...that was all..
Please how did you go about the cheap Qatar ticket? How long ago did you book the ticket? My wife is travelling soon and am looking for a cheap Qatar ticket.
With your ticket, are you entitled to long layover hotel in Doha?

Praise God I found your write up Mama.
I am very interested in going through this wonderful experience like you. Congratulations on your safe delivery. Please can you pm on the doctor you used in Dallas. Thank you so much.

So just as I promised to share my total bill and experience for my first Missionary Journey:

Hospital Bill - 3k for noncomplicated vaginal delivery (it has to be paid before discharge from the hospital to qualify for the discount package)

Dr fee - 1k for vaginal delivery (payment is due at initial doctors appointment)

Lab test - 158

Ultra scan - 120

Paediatrician - 300

Well Child Check - 95 (this was done at JPS hospital fort Worth)

LO birth cert. - 23 each (collected two copies)

American Passport - 165 (I got it by mail exactly 13days after applying)

I got my zero balance from the hospital by mail 3 weeks after discharge. I left US with LO on the 30th of March, got to Qatar and was hoping to get a transit visa to qualify for an hotel in Doha but sadly our Visa wasn't granted by the immigration, we had to stay at the airport for a 12hrs layover. Thank God it's finally over for now, I will hang my coat and hibernate till further notice. Thanks to everyone who has shared their experiences, bills and answered both my public and direct questions, God bless you all especially @chloe7 @temmyo ...@dyout Congratulations and thank you so so much for the assistance with LO letter of Consent and it was nice to meet your Madam a fellow Nairalander in diaspora.

Please how did you go about the cheap Qatar ticket? How long ago did you book the ticket? My wife is travelling soon and am looking for a cheap Qatar ticket.
With your ticket, are you entitled to long layover hotel in Doha?
I booked 3 weeks before my departure date (1st of June) on wakanow..we didn't have a long layover it was just 2 hrs layover and by the time we got to Doha we spent just about 45mins before we were called to check in and board..

Am only sure about BA, they accept up to 36weeks for a singleton.

tnx for the ans ma'am,i checked the turkish website and they can carry from 28th-35weeks with one singleton and they will check the fit to fly fro doc.thnx ma'am I think am okay with that.
Bt my question now is,is fit to fly also known as medical clearance and what dos MEDIF means? plss

Yes, it's a form of medical clearance. I think it's Qatar that uses MEDIF.
