He was posthumously awarded by the GEJ government in 2014 during Nigeria's centenary celebration.

Why remember a dictator

It is the mindset of people from 3rd world countries especially Africans, they have a weird mentality and Stockholm syndrome for people who enslave, abuse and brutalize them.

They will normally worship and remember people like Sese Seko, Abacha, Chinese exploiter, Lebanese money launderer before Kofi Annan or Gani Fawehinmi.

Ask the average African and you will hear the response - bush people!

Millitary rule

Where students were executed in broad daylight for protesting against expulsion of their mates?

Where journalists could disappear for 3 years....and in some instances turn up dead.

Where an academic was deported for being opposed to the govt.?

Where you could not even do any form of agitation for resource control, secession, etc...

Where you would not even have a simple say in who ruled you?

Are we animals....that we need a keeper to keep us?

Democracy better pass....even now that I think our democratic rule is a mess. But people like GEJ did not lock up journalists, or close press organizations for 4-5 months the way IBB did in 1992 to Concord for an article stating that his admin had failed.

For the first time ever, I have to say I agree with all your points here.

Analogy of OPPRESSOR & FOOLISH CITIZENS. (A case study of Nigeria citizens & their elected oppressors). During the Soviet dictatorship of Joseph Stalin. He was a brutal dictator with mind of his own. On one fateful day, Stalin came to Politburo meeting with a live chicken. Standing in front of audience, He started to pluck the feathers of the live chicken off one by one. The chicken trembled in pain, blood tricking out of its pores. It gave out grievous cries, but Stalin being a cruel dictator continued without remorse plucking the feathers out until the chicken was completely Unclad. After which, he threw the chicken on the ground. The Unclad chicken was staggering in pain. Stalin goes into his pocket and from his pockets, he took out some chicken food and started to throw it at the poor & hapless creature. The poor chicken in pain started eating and Stalin started walking towards his seat. As he walked away, he kept dropping some feeds on the floor & the chicken followed him and sat feeding from his feet. Joseph Stalin then turned to members of his political party leadership. He said, "This chicken represents the people". "You must disempower them, brutalise them, beat them up, starve them and then leave them". "If you do this, go into your pocket & give them peanuts when they are in that helpless and desperate situation, they will blindly follow you for the rest of their life, worshiping you". "They will think you are a hero forever. They will forget that, you're responsible for their sorrowful situation in the first place." Breath taking, isn't it ? Now! Take a look at all the people some Nigerians are busy defending on social media. Take a look at those they call their heroes. They are the same people who plunged Nigeria into the situation she is. They are the same people who are responsible for their predicaments. Did you see the numbers of people that throng to Saraki's House during this Sallah period to go collect peanuts? People trooping to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Foundation offices to collect branded One kilo bag of Rice & Noddles. Did you see the number of people of all ages who troop out to welcome Ex- convict James Ibori to South South! Your guess is as good as mine. Nigerians kill those they should defend and defend those they should kill! Pass to all your contacts & let your Political & Religion Leaders read, understand & digest.

Abacha'!! Heard the last lady with him on the night of his demise was just released by GEJ and the guards on duty on that night. Not Indian babes as assumed but campus runs girl.
Ppl saying the debt reduced was cause Nigeria was isolated and Shell was the major funder of the government.
Nigerians lived on fear. Abacha wanted to rule as long as possible
He was almost unstoppable but God that removed ibb also unseated him

Abacha, the big hippocrite that was publicly quarrelling with the west while looting Nigeria's treasury and transferring the money to his accounts in western banks.
Re: Remembering General Sani Abacha: 19 Years After His Death by middlebelter(m): 2:11pm On Jun 08, 2017
If we have to rank all the past administration in this country, Abacha's regime is the worst till date. No doubt history will not be kind to him and his family for the pain the inflicted on Nigerian. It was during his regime the Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Industry was frustrated, he could not pay the staff, yet he stole billions. Imagine if he was kind to make the plant work how it would have impacted our economy.
Abacha, the worst Head of State!

Surprising that some see this man as a mentor. A pointer to human diversity and eraticity.

@Op l doubt if you heard the news in the morning. l was returning from school after Games and Sports (4pm)

when a man listening to the radio as he walks broke the news to passers by.

He's not my mentor but I respect the man regardless..

He was a good soldier.. A Solid strategist and a Master when it comes to holding and consolidating power.

Under him, Our Economy performed better than under GMB and IBB combined.

He was ruthless.. but then, which of our military head of state wasn't?

Ruthlessness is a characteristic of a good soldier.

He's endless Loot leaves a bad taste in the mouth though

No ma'am. GEJ wasn't influenced. It was Nigeria's centenary celebration and all our past leader and people of repute were awarded. From Ironsi down to yaradua, that's how it is usually done. Although professor wole soyinka rejected the award as a protest because Abacha was honoured. You get?

Even the western world still remember the Hitlers, stalin, mussolini et al. I remember him not out of love, but for history and reflection purposes. No need to put the black man down.

He is the only patriotic philanthropic dead Nigerian that we have -- he keeps donating money to Nigeria every year for th past 19years.

He was a devilish man that took us through the darkest time of our nation.

You can scare a little child with his name just like Ojuju Calabar.

Nadeco and OPC never gave him peace of mind till he kpeme. He also lost his first son in an helicopter crash that was full of USD.

Me , I was a PDP opponent....I am not too pleased with APC now.

But if anyone asks me if life under Military rule was better.....I will say with all my heart....NO WAY!

Nnamdi Kalu that when this govt jailed him....we knew where he was., what jail he was staying, with full access to hois lawyers. If he tried his Biafra agitation under Abacha or any army man, na SSS jail dem go dump am...if not even worse. Same thing for all those Arewa guys who were saying Igbos out, for OPC, etc.

If you think Army rule better...think again.

Apart from too much dictatorship... Military regine was better. Economy was not that bad not withstanding the rate of looting then.
