both lcd and amoled are good to me
whether amoled is energy efficient or whatever it doesn't stop Samsung phones from draining battery

NaijaTechGuy:
If you're a frequent reader of tech blogs the words AMOLED and LCD will certainly not sound strange to you. One of the biggest and most important parts of any smartphone is the display. The display is something you interact with dozens of times every day. It’s your window into the apps and tools that make up a smartphone.

Displays have gotten ridiculously good over the years, but they still fall under two types. A smartphone usually comes with either of these displays. These displays are quite different, but both have advantages. AMOLED is mostly found on Samsung phones and a few other random devices. Most smartphones, including the iPhone, come with LCD displays. The big question is

What's the difference between the two?

LCD
LCD stands for “Liquid Crystal Display.” These are the most common displays used in smartphones. Your TV and laptop probably have LCD displays. LCD is literally made from liquid crystals but that means it needs dual glass panels and a backlight. LCD displays are usually not as thin as AMOLED.
The colors are not too vibrant and the contrast isn’t very high high. Despite that, the colors generally look more realistic.
A common term that usual comes with LCD smartphone displays is “IPS,” which stands for “in-plane switching.” IPS offers wider viewing angles than other types of LCD displays, which is why it’s preferred for smartphones.

AMOLED
AMOLED is an acronym that stands for “Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode.”
The displays are made from a very thin layer of polymers that light up when given electric current is passed through it. Because of its design, AMOLED panels can be very thin and they don’t need a backlight.
AMOLED displays tend to be more energy efficient.

LCD vs AMOLED
LCD displays usually look more dull compared to AMOLED because they don’t have the same level of contrast. This is actually a good thing if you want colors to look more realistic . Another thing to compare is power consumption. AMOLED displays don’t need a backlight while LCD displays do. This makes AMOLED displays more energy efficient.
AMOLED is generally better for your eyes. Unlike LCD with its blue like display. However some LCD displays come with Miravision™ to protect your eyes but it'll never be as good as the AMOLED display

Which is better?
There are different kinds of LCD as well as AMOLED displays so I can't say anyone is better. Samsung makes great devices with AMOLED , LG makes great devices with LCD. So everything depends on user preference. Which do you prefer?

AMOLED screens look way too unrealistic for me, too much saturation. And d way op mad it sound like LCD screens are power hungry is just loopsided.

nice one... I prefer AMOLED screens because of their flexibility in application especially in curved edge phones. LCD is only good for real time imagery that doesn't require too many colours
lg g flex and lg curved uhd tv are not AMOLED sire

A lot of ppl dunno d difference btwn realistic colors and oversaturated punchy colors that aren't real. Little wonder y phones are becoming more flashy these days, more about looks and design and less about greatly improved performance on all fronts, coz all possible want is something flashy and attractive. Take a look at d HTC U11 for example, HTC have moved from sturdy metal phones to flashy glass slabs. Which I think is really pathetic, but u can't blame them, it's what d market wants and they are out to make money.

I personally prefer LCD to LED. More realism and less fantasy. And ooo, better brightness. cool wink

this topic is interesting....fortunately it's part of my seminar back then in my under graduate days.AMOLED is definitely from the family of OLED.this brings us to the fact that AMOLED is better off ,the advantages way out lives that of LCD.so Samsung rocking it with the super AMOLED display screen.

AMOLED is the way to go. By mere looking at 2 phones with AMOLED and LCD IPS displays, you could tell that the AMOLED one looks stunning with vibrant colours.

Which is better?

LCD

Let’s start with LCD (liquid crystal display)… It’s generally cheaper than AMOLED technology, but that doesn’t mean it’s naff by any measure.

In fact, LCD screens are used on the likes of the iPhone range, HTC smartphones, LG’s flagships, most Xiaomi devices and the vast majority of Huawei phones.
The underlying tech has been used for ages now, essentially using liquid crystals (surprise!) to bring the image to life.

Advantages: The biggest advantage is that LCD screens use the same amount of power, regardless of content and colours displayed. Another advantage is that they generally tend to offer brighter screens in direct sunlight. Finally, these screens don’t suffer from burn-in to the same extent as AMOLED, so those wanting to use their phone for years shouldn’t have a problem here.

Disadvantages: Blacks don’t look as black as AMOLED screens. Additionally, LCD screens can’t turn off selected areas of the screen to save more power — so things like Always-On displays generally don’t save power compared to the same implementation on AMOLED.

AMOLED

The Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) technology tends to be the display of choice for enthusiasts, offering a variety of cool upsides. But it suffers from disadvantages too.

Either way, you’ll find AMOLED screens in devices from Samsung, Lenovo, Nexus/Pixel, the ZTE Axon 7 and the Xiaomi Mi Note range, to name a few.
As the name implies, organic compounds are at the core of this screen technology. So what are the benefits and downsides?

Advantages: These screens display deeper blacks due to their ability to turn off individual pixels. This ability also leads to power-saving when displaying black colours, so using a dark wallpaper will actually yield a longer battery life because fewer pixels are turned on.

Disadvantages: Screen burn-in is pretty much inevitable on these screens, so if you use WhatsApp a lot, expect the icons to ever-so-faintly remain on the screen after a couple of years, max. You’ll want to steer clear of white backgrounds and bright colours though, as this leads to a big increase in power consumption.
