gogodaye: Also old/bad plugs could be responsible as well. If you indeed need to have the ATF change be sure you use ONLY the prescribed ATF grade for refill. Also the process I understand does not just end with draining out of theold ATF and refilling the gearbox with new fluid. It also involves change of filters etc. So make assurances doubly sure before proceeding as taking the wrong step could wreck your car Auto gear box which also expensive to replace. Please be there to see them undertake the task.
Advice taken. The challenge here is getting d said expert in Ado-ekiti or Akure.
All the same, thanks

Good morning everyone I love this thread I use Volkswagen golf 3 too which is just
About 5 months old but the golf came without AC the engine size is 1.6 is it advisable to install AC on this machine.
Because I really want to do that but I want to know what the consequences will be since it didn’t come with it.
And secondly I have read on this thread that we should not remove the thermostat.
I have remove mine for about two months now, the mechanic advice I do so since our weather here is hot I don’t need it.

glolomoh: Inasmuch I will not conclude that you are wrong,I insist I have never heard of or experience armed robbery case along Ikere/Akure road. I have heard about Ikere/Ise-Emure. For the former, I haven't even as I ply it on daily basis. This doesn't means,it didn't happen. I'm only asserting from my own knowledge of the road.
As for the leader of the gang robbing on Ikere/Ise road being a policeman, I'm privy to it.
Ok o.

@ Speeka, pls have the Thermostat re-installed. So that you're not left with a worn out engine or an electrical fire that would most probably leave you 'carless' in the furture. Its presence in the car has got nothing to do with our weather.
Re: MY GOLF 3:how Do I Maintain It? by gogodaye(m): 4:00pm On Apr 27, 2013
@ Speeka, wise counsel is against the installation of the AC as you propose. The wiring would need to be done right or else the consequences could be dire. For further information, if my guess is right, I think Siena in one of his contributions on this issues gave illuminating insights.......do a search.....Cheers.

glolomoh: I observed my car's gear don't change like b4. Also, it takes it sometime to speed effectively unlike b4. I consulted two mechanics. One said I should drain d gear oil and replace it with a new one. According to him, it will take up to 7 litres for it 2b fully guaged. The other opined that I should just top up. He went further that it is unhealthy to drain 'follow come'(factory) gear oil.
This has hold me in a dilemma. Kindly advise.
Please treat with dispatch. #siena #ikenna #other auto gurus
I am always impressed when I see someone taking the initiative on their car. Most Nigerians use their car like an @ss (the beast of burden type) I remember talking to my colleagues about this and they made me look like an atk type. Anyway you have the right attitude, keep it up.. Just would add that you inspect your atf to see if it needs replacement. Just open ur hood and look around for the atf dip stick.. Take it out and inspect the fluid. If it's black and smells burnt then u are due for a replacement.. Ensure you use the recommended atf (very very important) other wise u would be on the path to getting a new gear box. A good mechanic is also very essential but Always ensure they school u on any issue with the car and their recommended solution. Don't allow them bully u into taking actions on the car u aren't comfortable with.. It's your money and ur car so be in charge. Nothing else I can add which hasn't already been said. Happy riding.

Thanks for being there.
The said dilemma got my gear box damaged which eventually led to the conversion of the car to manual. I have since learnt manual driving and I'm greatly enjoying my car.

A response of this nature could have been more golden than silence. Then, I was confused but relying on you for guidance and succour. Anyway, it is now a bygone and lets treat it as such.
And, if my previous post hurts, kindly overlook.

You are right. I have learnt a lot from experience. Now, I know when my car is due for service, interpretation of dashboard signs and their precautions, I know what to do when experiencing overheating(the only issue I always have with d car),when d brake pads are due for replacement etc
For those compliments, thanks

It is d fan. It usually disconnects from d socket. Once that happened, the engine starts giving me one ugly sound(like that of frog) while temperature meter moves upward. Immediately I notice this, I will off d engine, open d bonnet and push in d disconnected socket and start d car again. Lo and behold, engine will back to normal.
All efforts at getting this situation fixed permanently proved abortive as I couldn't get d said socket in market.

There is a major Volkswagen importer of Volkswagen parts off bypass junction at akure, his shop is on the right not too far from the road off by pass junction. Am sure he will have the said socket. Can't remember his name though. Ask for the major volks dealer when u get to by pass.

alternatively, you can check ejigbo at ado ekiti, beside kanada pharmacy, the guy there also specializes in Volkswagen parts. Good luck

You need to be careful with that engine. Don't wait till the engine sound tells you that its overheating before you stop. If care is not taken, it could ruin your cylinder head, not just head gasket.

Always pay attention to temperature guage more than fuel guage. Once the temp starts going beyond the normal temp (i think 95 or so for Golf Mk III), just pull over and find out the cause.

Can you post the picture of the said socket?

I have been to these places. Infact, Austin(d guy beside Kanada) is still on it and he gave me d assurance that anytime, anywhere he spot it, he will buy it for my sake. He is so friendly and helpful among his peers.
Thanks so much for being there.

Ur welcome. Try packing the socket carefully with paper so it stays firm. Do it in such a way that the contact isn't compromised. Overheating is an engine killer!

I took a further step by not using paper(as u have suggested) but steel and I believe it will be a viable solution. Thanks in a million.

I can't assert if that is the approved oil. It was recommended by another Golf 3 user. For the mechanic, I haven't got mechanical issue with my car. I only change d engine oil regularly-any mechanic can do that.

Yeah, i have upgraded. Infact, twice. Toyota Corolla 99/ 2000 model in 2015 and Nissan Almera 2005 model few weeks ago.
