KingEbukasBlog:You apparently lack basic comprehension skills. The point is- good welfare causes atheism and general disregard for religion not the other way round. It also doesn't mean every irreligious country is as a result of welfare. When proving a point, u don't rely on anecdotes or isolated instances, u make your case by referring to over whelming statistical evidence. 4 Likes |

KingEbukasBlog: Likely. It then goes that to a large extent, religion is wrongly practiced in Nigeria, hence its inability to cause improvement in leadership and governance? 1 Like |

DeSepiero: I disagree that its wrongly "practised", who made anyone a judge of who's "doing it right?", its the same No True Scotsman fallacy thrown around all the time my opinion is that we are TOO RELIGIOUS, religion in healthy dose is good, if it tilts to unhealthy doses however it can be disastrous especially in places where different religions are practiced How many times have we seen Nigerians pray rather than act? aren't they following words of Jesus that said ask anything in his name and he'll do it? Nigerians would rather pray for good health than go for inexpensive periodical checkups and when health starts deteriorating, they'll pray for a cure when it deteriorates further they'll go to a hospital and "reject" the diagnosis of doctors "in Jesus name" then visit a nationally acclaimed pastor (Chris TB Joshua etc) for more prayers when their health deteriorates even further they'll pray some more and use some guy they don't know who got cured of aliment(s) same as or similar to theirs as "point of contact" for their own cure when they're bedridden, hospitalised and given a short time to live they'll still reject the report in Jesus name and call for some evangelist to keep praying for them and when they finally die, their family members would say god knows best etc being overly religious and fundamentalism is the problem, there's no one that's doing anything wrongly cuz no one is a good judge of who's doing it right 6 Likes 1 Share |

KingEbukasBlog:I really have to spell this out for you? 1. We are speaking of countries not individuals. And even if you claim there are many rich Christians, there are many more poor and impoverished Christians. 2. Countries with the highest standard of living, highest minimum wage and best welfare programs are largely irreligious. And the poorest countries are generally very religious. Now, the point is, atheism didn't cause the development and high standard of living. Its the other way round 1 Like |

felixomor: This is false. The countries you listed are not more religious than Nigeria. List one study that shows that they are more religious than Nigeria. Last time I checked Nigeria ranks above all of them on the list of the most religious countries in the world. So your statement is false as usual. 4 Likes |

felixomor: Why then are we overtly religious since it's of no use to our lives? We just keep deluding ourselves. How can we always claim we have this good thing but our way of life is an embarrassment to all that know us? Just an example, Saudi Arabia recently donated 200 tons of dates for IDPs to be used during the Ramadan in the north east and those in charge diverted it and are now selling it in the market. This is the same thrash that is going on every where from our families to all our institutions and most of our religious places. Theft, insincerity, fraud, corruption and lack of value for human life. If religion can not help us then why are we wasting too much time on it? 5 Likes |

dalaman: According to data from the 2017 Best Countries rankings – a characterization of 80 countries based on a survey of more than 21,000 global citizens – Saudi Arabia is perceived to be the most religious country in the world. I wonder what was going on in your mind, to insinuate that nigeria is more religious than countries like Saudi and the other places i listed. It must have been something strong. 2 Likes |

KingEbukasblog is right when he says that religion is no good because we are not doing it right. It's like someone is trying to lose weight and goes on a diet of soft drinks and Eba breakfast and pounded yam lunch to be topped off with Fufu Dinner, and all of them punctuated and interjected with regular doses of puff puff and chocolate. If he only gets fatter that doesn't mean that diets don't work. We're discussing religion here, right? Not Theism or atheism etc. So there is no need to try and force the existence of God into this thread. Does the religion that you practice work? If not, why not? The bible has Jesus saying 'By their fruits you shall know them'. If you want to know about a religion and it's practice then all you have to do is look at the fruits. I conclude that religion in Nigeria is disgusting, nasty and ultimately Satanic. Yes o, Satanic, but we'll come back to that later. We ought to be able to look at religion not as membership of some cult or the other, but as a set of practices that one engages in to bring about fulfillment in life. If the religious cult you belong to supports your personal practice then it is a good cult, however if it obfuscates and impedes your practice then it is an evil cult. Nigeria is saturated with Evil Irreligion Cults. They play on human's baser motives and being. They do not edify you spiritually. For example, it is a known fact that humans have a tendency to seek comforting delusions when they are in trouble. So what should a responsible caring pastor do to a troubled man who comes to him for help? Should he fill his heart with comforting delusions? Or should he tell him that bitter truth that will help him overcome his trouble and to grow? As HopefulLandlord put it, the way those demonic cults in Nigeria conduct affairs reveals to us that they are a bane on our society. hopefulLandlord: 3 Likes 3 Shares |

dalaman:It has to a great extend. But again op is just too generalistic in his work. He forgot that we Africans were practicing African traditional religion till date. The ATR back then instill fear and discipline that certain actions were thought of before taking them. Even till date it's still in vogue,. Why do think our politicians are afraid to swear to juju priest in adhering to the constitution of the land?. Isn't African religion part of religious practice in Nigeria why restrict it to Christian and Muslim thing? Don't both practisant engage the services of juju priest at one time or the other, that's most of their followers. ? |
