Hi guys! I was denied today. First time at the embassey in lagos. I had my bsc in the sciences but I had applied for bachelors in religious studies, as these is in line with my future aspirations. vo asked me why I chose bsc and not msc, me: my answer was off the question I became nervous because I had studied all other questions except this shocker. I fombled. But now I have done the needful and even covered more deeply on other areas. Please when can I reapply? Semester starts this fall august. |

moravelu:From one bsc to another.... this should have been your first question of focus. .... Lesson Learnt for you : it not about studying all other questions..... Everyone Situation is different so while you prepare, what you first do is to work and prepare based on your situation . I am shocked that you are shocked about this question |

Hello house, I applied to 5 schools for Fall 2017 and got denied by 3 of them, i had to send email to the remaining two schools to defer my application till Spring 2018 to enable me repackage my application(maybe rewrite GRE); My Profile: Course: MA Economics CGPA: 2.5/5 GRE: V154/Q146(300) TOEFL: 102 Status: Illinois State University - denied Cleveland State University - denied Eastern Illinois State Uni - denied SUNY - Buffalo State College - deferred application till Spring 2018 ST. Cloud State Uni - deferred application till Spring 2018 I don't know if i applied to the wrong schools or if the fact that i had extra year in the uni affected my application. I have since applied for WES evaluation. Please if anyone has info about schools that would accept me based on my profile, I'm interested. Hoping to hear from you guys please. |

Odunayo007:I guess the fact that you have a fiance in the US. In their mind, you have no intention of coming back. Just my opinion |
| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by LagosismyHome(f): 1:41pm On Jun 19, 2017 |
Odunayo007:The bold did you say it , or you just said Yes or it was noted on your previous DS160 .... If you said it with your mouth then maybe that was too much information . This thing is just how questions are been asked and in what manner ......... The first questions and answers already raises a red flag ........ you tried to go see your finance you were not given so now let try with student visa ......Not that anything is wrong but it can raise a flag.......... It can set the tone of any interview to go down as the followup questions shows your work experience has nothing to do with Computer as such even though its your first degree . In this case you might not have done anything wrong but just the tone of the whole line of questioning .... you could have meet another VO with totally different sets of questions that would have gone in your favour ... I cannot give any feedback but to say you can only hope for another VO who asks you questions that goes in your favour . |

Odunayo007:My pick is why didn't your fiance send u f2? Did you guys filled engaged in your ds160? If pulling out his records and find out that both of you ain't engage. Then that's denial. Also, you shouldn't apply for b1/b2 to visit your fiance in the first place. That's no no. You re now applying as a student to go to USA seems suspicious to the VO. I have replied ur whasapp. |

LagosismyHome:You took that out of my mouth. @Moravelu, Re-apply asap and provide a convincing reason why you chose to dive into another BSc major. (Not just because "It's inline with my future aspiration"... Show passion and go a lil bit into detail) Better luck next time bro |

I think your CGPA is too low for MA in Economics. You'd need lots of experince to make up for this. MA economics is very competitive. May be you should think of choosing another course closely related to MA economics. AusterHeights: |

phdmscbsc:Actually it's Airich01's visa transcript not chinemomah2020. Chinemomah2020 seems not getting how to quote others properly, so the confusion. |

LagosismyHome:I was denied last week but perhaps you didn't see mine. Pls help me. Does it matter if my i20 bears major education and my admission letter bears Mathematics? Only because I applied to two programs and deferred my maths program? Does this matter to the VO |
| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by electronic(m): 3:42pm On Jun 19, 2017 |
moravelu:Sorry Man!! But please always try to be consistent with your story before the VO. Switching from Sciences to Bsc Religious is a tough knot to crack.... Also what is your Age? I would prefer changing my course over there than making the switch from here. And what is that dream of yours that requires a BSC in religious Studies. Maybe a Masters can still achieve the same dream. The issue of not expecting the questions was because you had not really absorbed past transcripts. Don't cram questions. Just understand the process so the answers can come Naturally... Best of Luck Man. |

jummolami:You have a very nice CGPA. Your GPA, Certification and work experience would be a major boost to your profile. Try and carefully select schools and mail the Graduate Coordinator. Also you could use the search bar on NL if any transcript has your intended course with funding.. That basically all i know... Probably anyone else could assist you with more information. |

sshola:Firstly confirm with the school if your i20 has the right information .......That would be my first focus . Also mistakes are painful just learn from it and move on . Find out what exactly should your i20 be and then refire . Focus your answer on Mathematics and go again . You should not have focused on Education whichis no your real line because the passion wont show . Focus on what you really wanted which is mathematics .... sometimes the i20 classification is not so much an issue (as long as you confirmed with the school) |

Odunayo007:Your ties to Nigeria are not really Strong atleast by your answers. You applied for a VISA before and you have just concluded NYSC, working as a Private tutor. So you gave the impression that you have no obligation or responsibility to return to. You are as free as a bird!! (thats the impression they had) One of my aunts wanted me to visit US, i luckily rejected because of the lessons I learnt here.. The area where you would have taken advantage is if you had any kind of funding at all, it would have covered up for the Red Flags.. If your profile is funding worthy then work on getting any kind of funding.. Even if it's $1000 or anything like that. If they ask how do you intend to pay ? You could go like: I was offered funding and my Brother is paying the Rest. That single answer can change the discussion pattern.... Also the question pattern from the VO left you with no other choice. So you could still prepare (with changes from your previous interview) and reapply. Best of Luck |

AusterHeights:Your GRE was the deal breaker. How badly do you want this? With that weak GPA, if you could get at least 168 on your GRE Quant, and at least a 160 on your Verbal, you'll boost your odds of getting in. Again, if you want this badly enough, you'll prep for the GRE to get those scores. FYI, schools don't care how many times you take the test. Just put your best foot forward. Cheers! |

jummolami:Can you re-take the GRE? There's a whole world of difference between a 156Q and a 162Q. If you want funding, re-take the test and try to ace it across board. |

Odunayo007:Me thinks the fact that you have no strong ties to home and having a fiancé in the US might have been the excuse. You seems not to have been committed to any job that could probably bring you back home. |

I also got all the answers to my questions. I've met a lot of people on this thread and more often than not, our problem is a lack of sincerity
There's a lot of answers by just typing your questions on Google.
