It takes a single Mum with self confidence, determination and a healthy love of self to live a normal life after birthing a child outside wedlock. You will not find those types messing around with men as they can hustle for themselves and their kids. Single moms come in different shapes and sizes and I have to say while you are speaking from the limitations placed on you by your environment, you need to be sufficiently enlightened about the changing faces of parenthood.

There are those who become sole parents out of a breakdown in relationships or even death of a co-parent.

There are those that consider themselves married or in a common law committed relationship but are in deed raising children alone.

There are those who have given up on finding my right and the emotional roller coaster that comes with it or choosing not to marry mr wrong cos of the need to create a nuclear family but still want to raise their own.

There are those who because of their age or other fertility issues decide their maternal instincts and their desire to procreat far outweighs the need to be in a committed relationship and choose and can afford to go it alone.

Being a single mother is what 50% of the mothers do not planned for but due to circumstances or dating the wrong guy they got hook up in being a single mother wish x not a crime. But its their way of handling the situation afterwards will determine what they really want and bring out there true personality and behavior. some will see it as a lesson and challenge to overcome by being a great person and some idiot will just go ahead laying down with any guy that has some cash to drop justifying themselves with how life has been unfair to them, while the arrogance of the rich ones among them wont allow them to keep a good marriage but only father or their child. In a country where majority of the single men are momma's boys, it will be difficult to erase the single mom segregation when it comes to marriage.

Men do not discriminate in terms of dating, outing, boyfriend-girlfriend, etc. We only remember the word 'single mom' when marriage is being emphasized, and sadly, majority of Nairaland men recently attested to the fact that their MOTHERS will remain central to any of their life's decisions.

As far as Nigeria is concerned, majority of our mothers are not ready to accept single mothers as "daughter in-laws". It becomes worse when she hails from a poor background. Women are their OWN enemies. As for single men who boldly marry single moms, check them deeply, most of them are orphans, they don't have the "mother influence" on their marital decision.

No 20-something year old guy in this country will boldly take a single mom to his mother. Majority are immature mummy's boys.

The only way i can look at a single mom seriously is if she is a widow. Even that is a stretch. Singly moms a usually rebellious and promiscuous women at their core. You had the choice of abstinence, you had the choice of safe sex, then you had the choice of an abortion (yes i am pro-abortion). But somehow, you still end up being a baby mama. Cry me a river.
