Studies show a child is better off in two- parent household EVEN IF BOTH PARENTS ARE STRUGGLING.

Women alone cannot effectively raise children which explains why the African American who commit crimes are mainly from single black mothers.

I live in the West and there is a pathetic amount of Nigerian single moms who purposely run the man out the house just to claim more money from the government and seek pity.

They don't care about their children!

In a country where majority of the single men are momma's boys, it will be difficult to erase the single mom segregation when it comes to marriage.

Men do not discriminate in terms of dating, outing, boyfriend-girlfriend, etc. We only remember the word 'single mom' when marriage is being emphasized, and sadly, majority of Nairaland men recently attested to the fact that their MOTHERS will remain central to any of their life's decisions.

As far as Nigeria is concerned, majority of our mothers are not ready to accept single mothers as "daughter in-laws". It becomes worse when she hails from a poor background. Women are their OWN enemies. As for single men who boldly marry single moms, check them deeply, most of them are orphans, they don't have the "mother influence" on their marital decision.

No 20-something year old guy in this country will boldly take a single mom to his mother. Majority are immature mummy's boys.

No, most of them did not keep their first pregnancy to draw public sympathy, they kept it because they were either not "wise" enough to have an abortion or they had a conscience thing going on. However, pregnancy and having a baby outside wedlock in a society like Nigeria changed them. It is a very difficult position, They saw that the hypocrisy was too much (same people that are anti abortion also shame unmarried moms), they are constantly shamed and it's better not to have another child outside wedlock.

Does it mean that most unmarried girls have not had series of abortions? They are just "wise" enough to have an abortion and not become single moms.

I think it is very rare to a man refusing to marry a good girl. Even if he is not yet ready(as a result of finance or education), he will still come back to marry her.

If your "West" is implying North America, I am ashamed that you hold such views for someone living within an enlightened and civilized community where equal rights and women rights are being championed.

You observation might be factual, but it is just a hasty generalization. There vast majority of single moms in America are not blacks thus your deductions from observing "some" black women would be so far from the truth it is downright reprehensible.

This is not an attack thread but based on personal experience.

Came across some single moms who do abortion alot.

They kept their first pregnancy to draw public sympathy as "despite all odds, she kept the baby" etc

Subsequently they continue their reckless behavior and keep aborting with justification as "how can I have two kids without marriage" etc

It's really a sad trend.
