What other planning can be done to a coastal area of such? Flooding of such happens in any coastal area of such all over the world once there is heavy downpour.

Make we hear word jare, how many rain fall? Na seven days none stop?

Country like Ireland wey na water surround am no dey flood like this, and e no get the month rain no dey fall.

That it clears in few hours is precisely evidence that rather than ecological challenges, it's infrastructural challenges that cause flooding here. The kind of challenges that have sacked communities like New Orleans would wipe Lagos off the map. grin Nigeria is a lucky country. I shudder to think what would happen if this country had tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones etc. We would have gone extinct by now.

The scenario is not "unavoidable" at all. Build expansive, closed, underground drainage systems that are integrated with municipal water treatment and supply faciities, and adequate channels, canals etc embarassedwhich drain out into the ocean and you'll see a stop to flooding. Keep digging 2-feet deep, open gutters flowing nowhere and blocked by garbage and waste and you'll keep getting floods.

Drain to an ocean conveniently without backlogs considering that terrain?

It's about digging deep, it's about channelling to flow paths. It wish I could dive a little into physics. The reservoir is the determinant of the channel and not vice-versal. For a place like Lekki, you have to consider counter return from the reservoir is an occurrence warrants. You don't just open up deep drainages going to same place that can't withhold the flow.

It is only those who do never bothered to master Olympic swimming techniques that should fear flood waters. Residents of flood-prone areas need only acquire canoes, jet-skis and surf boards that they can conveniently deploy as transport for their work commute, on those days then flood-waters rise to neck-deep levels, and cars have to be parked submerged at home.

I don't want to really go indepth with you cos I won't still make a point to you. I might choose to willingly if you can tell me how to measure up coastal city with regards to flooding and drainage channelling?

When u answer, I promise to start from there.

Tip- Onitsha is a coastal area but doesn't get flooded but Lekki does.

I've never been to Onitsha and don't know how their drainage system work. But I know say Lagos useless when it come to drains by the roadside.

Dive into physics? grin With due respect, I'm an engineering grad. There's nothing overly complicated about drainage in Lagos. Any layman can see the woeful inadequacy of existing structures. Who said anything about drainages going to places that can't withhold the flow or are you putting words in my mouth?

There are loads of cities in the world with higher average rainfall than Lagos. Lagos also averages high annual rainfall due to the frequency of rains rather than the intensity. Lagos doesn't experience any intense weather conditions. You don't get cyclones or typhoons, hurricanes etc. Infact, in my time in the North, I've experienced far heavier rainfall than I ever have in Lagos and seen dangerous thunderstorms, flashfloods, hailstones etc which I've never seen in Lagos. These excuses don't hold up.

And Onitsha is not a coastal city. For starters, it is not located on the coast.

It is as though we are determined to be foolish in this country.

Draining Lagos is not complicated.

These problems have solutions! The trouble is that if things worked in Nigeria, the politicians and administrators would only have their salaries to take home

No more overbloated contracts and 60/40 kickbacks!

Simple truth.

I don't know why people are so crazy about island and Lekki. Mainland are not as terrible as these. I have properties in the mailand and it's cheaper to renovate whenever there is any issue. It cost me more for the Lekki. Most of the people that leaves in Lekki are tenants to the landlord who leaves in the mainland. There is somewhere I know in Fagba and it's axis , they enjoy light everyday for nothing less than 20hours.
