PrecisionFx: Yes, but you said it yourself that why is the South East the only Zone that contains one ethnic group, while all the other geopolitical zones are multi ethnic. That is why I asked you to list the tribes n the SW for us to hear. These are your own words: PrecisionFx: I was just trying to tell you how wrong you were. 1 Like |

fratermathy:Please do not misquote me or turn this into something it is not. You yourself stated that a number of these minority tribes are Igboid or Yoruboid. Hence they have a common ancestry with this group. Ergo.... they are under it's ethnic group. The reason for the detachment has to do with Political backstabbing and the civil war wahala if I'm not mistaken. At least google calls the ikwerres Igbos who rejected the igbo tribe tag during the war I suppose you might feel balkanized against your will or miffed when they instantly Adress you as "Igbo" or "Yoruba". I grab that. However, it is the functions of your leaders to correct the misimpression that they are only three tribes in Nigeria and tell your history as it is. Heck the last president was from the South south and he didn't seem to care much about being called Igbo did he??

fratermathy: in that case, all those urhobo settlements that are not in any of the Warri Local Governments can't be considered to be Warri as well. All those other places I listed are all in Warri South, so they are rightfully Warri. |

PrecisionFx: Drawing from your logic then, Igbo is also a tribe. Igbo is a tribe of Hausa (the major ethnic group in Nigeria). EOD. You guys just think you can wake up and balkanise people's ethnicities in order to propagate your reductionist delusions? Your logic is very clear and if I am to subscribe to its flawed application, then you would also have to agree that Igbo is a tribe of Hausa. There is only one ethnic group in Nigeria: HAUSA! All others are merely tribes! 1 Like |

SirWere: You cited some Igboid and Yoruboid examples. Kindly account for Efik, Ogoni, Ijaw, Urhobo, etc. Let's see how your flawed logic will work out here. GEJ NEVER called himself Igbo neither was he ever called such. Igbos know themselves. You can't subsume people under your ethnicity because you share a country with them. This is why minority ethnicities will forever remain wary of the majority ethnic groups. What is even wrong with you guys? How can you call someone who has no relationship whatsoever with Igbo an Igbo person just because you want to propagate ethnic reductionism? If we are to follow the logic you are using then I will boldly say we have only ONE ethnic group in Nigeria: HAUSA! Igbo and Yoruba are TRIBES of Hausa! |
Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by fratermathy(m): 11:08pm On Jun 21, 2017 |
Zoolezoo: Leave them. They see only what they want to see. The hate they exude will consume them alone. In the original post, Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba were mentioned. Igboid and Yoruboid were also mentioned. I don't see Yorubas running around trying to derail the thread or making a fuss over stupid things. But go through the thread from the very first page and you'll see them doing what they do best. 2 Likes |

Zoolezoo: If we are also to follow your logic, the Urhobo settlements in Warri are in Warri South LGA and are therefore in Warri. There is even a legislative constituency for Urhobos in Warri South. Aside that, if you know Warri well enough, you would know that what is called "Warri" as we know it is 80% Urhoboland. All the industries and major locales that make up Warri are in Urhoboland (and I am not even talking of Uvwie and Udu yet). Anyone that sees or says anything contrary is just deluding himself/herself with tribalistic sentiments. |

fratermathy: it's sadening, I really don't know what to call this, maybe insecurity.. some people feel they are the only people in this world, and they must dictate to every other tribe and if you say no to their request you are their number one enemy and you are also an agent of darkness. I read through the post again trying to fault it, but couldn't find any thin wrong with it.. 4 Likes |
Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by Efewestern: 11:47pm On Jun 21, 2017 |
Zoolezoo: your logic is flawed.. I think you should visit warri yourself. 80% of warri is urhoboland, now other urhobo communities are fast becoming a city, places like effurun, osubi, ekpan, ebrumede. etc can't mention. |

OP Ebira is an ethnic group consisting of different tribes they can be found in Kogi, Nasarawa, Edo, Benue. They are the largest minority groups in southwest due to migration for farming and commercial purposes. 1 Like |

Re: 30 Interesting Facts About Some Nigerian Minority Ethnic Groups by Amoto94(m): 6:04am On Jun 22, 2017 |
9jakool:I do laugh at such people because Ebiras have been living in Yoruba territories before the forming of Nigeria and in short if an Ebira is speaking you may find some Yoruba words been used by the speaker due to years of interaction and living together. Ask peeps from Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, Ilorin, Ibadan and even to some extent Lagos they will tell you this, though vast majority of them are in farm settlements and some of them have naturalized that you can't differentiate from the locals. 1 Like |

Copacetic and educative. Thumbs up, OP. When I was in primary school, I thought there were only three tribes in Nigeria, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba; The Northerners are Hausas, The South Westerners Yorubas, and the people of all other regions in the South are Igbos. But, of course, I know better now. I doubt there can be any adult around who thinks that way though, nevertheless your write-up is interesting and enlightening, an eye-opener to certain salient facts. 2 Likes |

Afam4eva:This may come as a surprise but that's what it is. We share close proximity with SW and we've been in SW for ages reason been that our ancestral lands are quite rocky and small which can't be used for large scale farming safe for some locations so our people migrated to SW before the coming of colonial masters. Joavid can attest to this but we don't seem to care about it |

PrecisionFx:I can't believe someone would come out in the open to state the emboldened. THERE ARE THREE MAJOR ETHNIC GROUPS being Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba. In all, there are 256 ethnic groups in Nigeria. Other ethnic groups are considered minorities and there are sharp differences between tribes and ethnic groups even though they are linked. The ethnic group submission thing used to be the thoughts of regular Yoruba folks who believe you must be Igbo if you are neither one of them or an Hausa. There is more to the complexity of Nigeria than the three MAJOR ethnic groups. Fratermathy, I apologise. For some reasons, the mention wasn't visible and I didn't see it. I have seen a whole of lot of folks when don't have a life outside of here and they take pride in forming keyboard champs, you should clearly use the report button some other time, particularly if you don't have any interest in engaging them. Kudos, Oniovo. 1 Like |
