I'm just confused. Nigeria was doing very well before the oil stuff. We were ahead in Agriculture, today we are struggling. Despite the numerous Tourist attractions we have in this country We are not even among top 10 tourist destinations in Africa. Sometimes I wonder if we even have foreign students in any of our university.
Nigeria was doing very well before independence and not "oil stuff". Oil was not even as relevant as it is now as at that time.

I Will Continue To Say It. If We Are To Achieve Anything In This Nation, We Must First Restructure It So That Everyone Will Know Their Stand. Our Leaders Are Not Interested If We Move Forward Or Not But They Always Make Sure We Are Moving; Backward Ever.
Restructuring with same set of leaders and same average mentality. Naaaa, it won't work. There is a social problem that needs to be addressed.

I don't lament for the old days of careless spending on development projects without actually developing.

Personally, I take that picture as one of many symbols of Nigeria's problems: we didn't produce a single piece of technology in that picture, not even the plates use aboard nor the uniforms. We didn't have a good group of managers who understood the airline business neither could we afford such expensive equipment. Planes are not something you buy and forget

Any country that trades natural resources only to buy other peoples' technology is bound to get into trouble someday - as the price of oil suffers, so does our economy, corruption notwithstanding.

The plane is a facade, fancy dressing on a country with nothing to show. I would argue that we are actually in a better place today, as I'm seeing more indigenous engineering and foundry firms pop up in Lagos, Aba. That's actually what gives me hope that we will one day take pictures of a plane we made, even if it looks like crap.
did Dubai produce, is kenya producing, did Saudi produce as at then?? Problem as at then was not producing. These countries I mentioned are now producing, some are hubs for research and development. Tho, they may not be able to be the world's leading countries because innovations and inventions don't come from them in most cases, they have become a figure of relevance. You don't necessarily have to be a "prototype". If you are a forward looking individual, you can build on someone else's innovation and make it world class.

Crude oil is the problem, we need economic diversification, imagine the tin mining industry in aja okuta how is it today, palm oil & cocoa exportation (farming), gold mine in ilesa, tourism, all this saddens me. cry
diversification are talks to deceive y' all. There are economies with no Natural resources. They live on import and export. New zealand for example. There are individuals with just one stream of income, they are doing fine. Have built houses and have saved from it and there are individuals that have multiple streams of income but nothing to show for it. Management is key in any institution!

How can you say that oil is a curse to Nigeria? Oil is not the problem. Unless you are saying Natural resource is not good for a country. The curse of Nigeria is the mentality of the citizenry. It is phucked up from the floor up. Nigerians don't think like normal human beings hence the reason it seems they take one step forward and a billion ones back.
Thank you!

Indeed there was a country called the giant of Africa. This is certainly unbelievable. The first time I saw this picture I thought I was dreaming but lo and behold it was real. Did I say this Picture about Nigeria Airways will make you cry?

Yes! It will surely make you cry. Can you imagine, 44 years ago, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates all indicated interest to learn how Nigeria turned the Nigeria Airways into an intercontinental national carrier with 1,500 destinations across the world, generating N150 Billion naira profit yearly and providing jobs directly for 10,000 Nigerians. Now let me ask you. Are we moving forward or backward?

On the 20th of June 2017, Skytrax announced the world’s top 100 airlines in 2017 at the world airline awards held at Paris Air Show. Ethiopia airline was ranked 48 (First in Africa), South Africa Airways 49 (second in Africa) and Kenya Airways was ranked 91. And recall that the 3 African airlines that wanted to learn from Nigeria 44 years ago are now among the top 100 airlines in 2017.

Top 100 Airlines in 2017

Now let me ask you again. Where is Nigeria Airways? With all the riches and abundance of natural resources, Nigeria cannot boast of one national airline despite the fact that there are about 10 aircraft in its presidential fleet.

Nigeria was actually doing well before now. Buh we are missing a point. Most of the things we once enjoyed and are still enjoying are result of the Whiteman's idea. The problem with us is numerous. They have done virtually everything for us. Maintain them, we no gree. That is one of the reasons why we are still where we are.

My sister oil is not a curse but Nigeria is cursed by bad leaders and docile followers. Infact Nigeria itself is cursed. Even d oil sector which manages d oil itself u said itself caused d downfall of all sectors is itself down. That is y Nigeria import refined oil, refineries has refused to work optimally.
Check the d list of that 100 top airlines in d world is Qatar Airlines owned by a country which has oil. Norway has the world's largest sovereign wealth fund thanks to its oil. Oman, Kuwait, UAE are also success stories. That tells u how hopeless Nigeria is. No national carrier nothing is working. Nigeria that was dying is now in coma and about to die beyond ressurection. Nigeria is a waste of space on d world map

The 1979 - 1983 period was the foundation of corruption
Some people still ask why there was a coup in 1983

That is not the problem
All of US (young, old) are very very corrupt

Hembe is 42, did youth service in 2003 and went to House of Reps in 2007 (at 32)
in 2012 he was accused publicly by Oteh (former SEC DG) of corruption during a hearing by a Committee he chaired
Anyim too accused him of corruption in 2017

Don't mind the dunce. Russia, Norway and even Saudi Arabia that have oil, are they cursed? We know how to talk without thinking in this country
The guy is not a dunce bros. The curse of oil has a name and it's called the "Dutch disease. Norway was already an industrialised country before oil was discovered in the North sea, ditto Britain. The US was also firmly on its way to industrialisation before oil. The common thing with these countries was that their prosperity would have happened with or without oil. The case is diffrerent for those countries who prospered because of oil. Saudi Arabia's youth unemployment rate is close to 30%, Venezuela which has the world's largest oil reserves if you include its heavy oil is currently a basket case where chronic food shortages are rife. And please don't mention Quatar, UAE, Kuwait or Bahrain whose collective population is not up to that of Alimosho Local Govt. Libya is at war so also is Iraq. Oil makes a country's citizens lazy and unnecessarily combative. That's why it is usually called a curse.

Op you don't need to ask where Nigeria airways is rather ask where Nigeria President is or is not when a country has a functioning leader that things go well.......Up until now we still don't know where the President is so how can we know where our national carrier is, our leaders wasted everything good in this country.
Why do we have to blame all our problems on the missing president and our present government. All our troubles were birthed by previous discrepancies that have taken deep roots into the system which isn't going to take 2 years to correct.
