Thanks so much for your words.
You don't need to tell me about the nice people here, I'm a living testimony,

My application fees for University of Alberta was paid by a Nairalander I met here (in this section)

When I got admitted, and informed him, he was very happy, he paid for my Visa application and biometrics.
I swear, this is not fairy tale.

He helped me out in the application both for the University and Visa, you won't understand.

I applied for 2 schools on my own, I was rejected, it was the one he helped me with that worked.

I gave the testimony here, around April. Though he asked me to edit some details due to his anonymous reasons.
There are very wonderful people here, no need to mention names, only God will continually abundantly reward them

I have told myself, once I get married, my first male child will answer the name of the Man that helped me..
It still amazes me how a total stranger will offer to pay for my application fee, and even paid for my Visa application, I can't still get my head around it up till today, and please note, I never asked him to do this, he did it willingly

The man has never met me before, just online, he's not even from my tribe.
He didn't ask for anything in return, NOTHING, except I shouldn't disclose his identity.

And our Tribes flight each other daily in Politics and crime section cheesy, but that didn't stop him..

I have Over benefitted here,

I bought my full bred Caucasian dog through the contact I got in Pet section, at a cheaper price.

I will also give back at the right time.
Thanks Baba

Jebure...
Nice one bro.
I sent you PM about ur full Caucasian grin

I called back today since I didn't get the certificate. I was told to fax all my documents I initially submitted to them..

Now, my question is how do I fax them? There are phons applications that can help me fax them? Please, if you know one , please let me know. I remember people faxing their documents to IAOS for certificates evaluation. Please help a sister! Thanks.

From what I understand when someone decides to sponsor you, the onus is no longer on you to provide proof of funds. My dad swore at affidavit that he would pay for my upkeep and all after paying full tuition fees and that he had no other dependent. that was in 2014. I know its harder now. So you can add your just to show ties and all.
once u tell the vo u are working it's wise u show proof of that and ur payslip, soa, employment letter and intro letter from ur employer settles that, pls doing all these(especially payslip and soa) tackles the aspect of personal asset(u never can tell where the vo might decide to come from so pls don't give him/her any reason to use personal asset against u)

Hmmm that no 3 option is not as easy as it seems,

I was sent this letter twice,

The first time I choose that 3rd option and got a letter from bank that stated i the money available, the current balance and that I intend to use it for my studies. I also attached the CBN circular in it. I did this because if you read what CIC requested they did not ask the bank to include the clause that the money can be requested rather they want the letter from CBN. I did this and thought it was over but lo and behold, CIC wrote sent me another request letter and insisted that the bank should include the clause, they didn't ask for the CBN letter anymore.

I also thought this was not a problem and went to my bank to request for this letter that will include this clause but was shocked when none agreed to give me (GTB, Ecobank and Access bank)

I had no choice than to get a bank draft and pay my full year tuition. @ Ayoola you are lucky your bank gave you the letter.

I am actually happy that God was on my side and made CIC give the opportunity to get a second chance. I am sure that if it was not Him I would have been refused on grounds of insufficient fund.

That was why my timeline got up to 5 months but am grateful it ended in praise.

So at poster, if you have the money please get a draft
If you don't get the letter from the bank and insist they include the clause.
Which bank raised the draft for you? Was it raised in CAD or USD? How long did they take to raise the draft?

I will advise u tell the vo it was ur sponsor that paid ur tuition fee for u then let ur sponsor tender a letter of support stating he will also give u the cad10k, them u include ur soa of 2mil to support urself (u acting as co-sponsor ). atleast with that it will show that ur sponsor has done more than enough to show commitment(though we know it will be u that will do most of the payment but the vo doesn't expect u to work while u are schooling in canada so don't give him the impression )

What is the relationship you have with your sponsor? He cannot just declare all the 3 million naira he has for you especially if he/she isn't your parent or if there are other dependents.
Also if your sponsor has a good source of income, you can declare that he paid your fees for you and will also cover the remaining fee. However, there must be a good inflow of money into the account supported by other work documents.
Nope you cannot declare that you will pay your fees through freelancing job. It a no no. Think about it what if you don't get any freelancing job? So you become stranded. That won't fly.

LightandDarkness:
I recently gained admission to a thesis based Msc program in Canada and wanted to share some tips in getting a supervisor.

1. Be patient, the process takes time and a lot of e-mails.

2. Make sure you tailor each e-mail specifically to the supervisor you are interested in. Check their profile, read their research interests, check their current projects, and if possible glance at one or two of their recent publications. Sometimes on the profiles of supervisors their number of graduate students are mentioned, if they have a lot its unlikely they would have space for you, this isn't always true but it can save you time when you are prioritizing who to e-mail.

3. Include your CV and transcript with each e-mail.

4. Please please make sure your e-mail is well written and professional, use clear English as well as good punctuation and spelling. Note you are from Nigeria in Africa (no offence to us) but sometimes these people might have the unfair assumption that because of where you are from your english might be terrible, no one wants to work with someone they cannot communicate with. Use appropriate titles, do not call a Professor a Doctor, some supervisors will not care, some do care very much.

5. Note that these people are busy, if your e-mail is not replied immediately just be patient, wait for about 3-7 days and forward the initial e-mail with a BRIEF re-introduction. "Dear Dr/ Professor X. My name is Bleep, I am a potential applicant to program x. I sent you an email x-days ago regarding the potential of you being my supervisor for x program. I decided to re-send this e-mail as I was not sure you had seen it. Kind regards, X". If there is no reply it is safe to assume they might not be accepting students, however you can give it another 7 days and send another e-mail, if there is still no reply move on.

6. Your CV is an important part of your application. I say application because you are basically applying to work with the supervisor, spend time crafting a straight to the point CV. A good CV (for a fresh graduate anyway) should be no longer than 2 pages, if you have been working it is understandable that it might be longer. Note again though that these people do not have time so try to be concise. Make your CV appealing to the eye. Also avoid including your age, sex, religion, marital status or all of that, these are simply unnecessary and might bias the supervisor against you for example with your personal religious affiliation.

7. Small tip: I used send my e-mails to supervisors at around 8:30-10AM at wherever they were located, I did this because these are the times an average working person would get into the office and read their mail to plan for the day. No evidence this helps anything but sha..

Now to the formats.

Format 1:
I really prefer this format because its simple and straight to the point, you state why you are e-mailing and you direct them to your CV and transcripts for further information. Saves both them and you precious time.

Dear Dr/Prof X,

My name is X and I am a candidate for the MSc Bleep program at the University of X to begin in Fall/Winter/Summer 201x. The purpose of this e-mail is to enquire about the availability of masters graduate student positions in your lab.

I am interested in the research you are conducting on (what you are interested in). The basis of my interest in your research is a scientific interest in (reasons why you are interested). I have attached my CV and transcripts for your consideration. Thank you for taking the time read my e-mail.

Kind regards,
Your name.

Format 2:

I used this at the beginning when I thought I would be getting quick responses and I thought had all the time in the world. While this format is more robust and indeed you give the supervisor a good picture of your self as an applicant, I do think it is a bit lengthy and might be a turnoff for supervisors, however I have received positive responses with this format. Some Supervisors might however ask you to send something like this as a "career plan".

Dear Dr/Prof X,

My name is X and I am interested in applying for the (your program) at the University of X for a Fall 201x start. The purpose of this e-mail is to enquire about the possibility of you acting as my faculty supervisor during the course of the (your program).

To briefly describe my profile, I am a (your degree) graduate from (your University) with a passion for research (if you are going or a thesis based program you will be doing research). I am interested in the research you are conducting on (summarize their interests) which motivated me to contact you regarding the possibility of you being my supervisor for (your program).

Here I discuss the knowledge and research experience I have relevant to their own research

I possess knowledge of (knowledge relevant to their research) which I gained through modules on these topics during the course of my (what you studied) degree. I have also had experience of geology/biology/chemistry/finance etc research; (How you gained this experience). I have described this/these experiences/projects (as appropriate please) in my attached curriculum vitae. Through these experiences I have gained (briefly describe what you gained from these experiences- laboratory techniques, analytical methods, project management etc)

I have attached my CV for your consideration which describes my research experience and research competencies. I have also attached my university transcripts which show the courses I studied during my (what you studied) degree. My transcripts are graded using the Nigerian grading system which differs from the Canadian system however I have confirmed my overall grade of Second Class, Upper Division is sufficient for entry to the (your program of interest).

I believe I can gain valuable knowledge and experience under your supervision but also use the knowledge and research experience I have previously gained in order to contribute positively to your research. I am very happy to further discuss my grades, research experience, and interests and I look forward to your reply at your convenience.

Kind regards,
Your name.

Thank you so much for this!!!! Please may I pm you? God bless you.
