@Icool please pardon my inquisitive mind, but is there any specific reason you didn't apply to UT Arlington? Since you applied to quite a number of schools in Texas.

hello house,
Pls which format can I use to write or contact a school in USA about their graduate programme which am interested in before applying so as to know if I will be admitted without getting to waste my application fee..Thanks

Look for a Faculty member (Prof) in same school with research interest as yours, read some of the 'Faculty' papers or article.
Introduce yourself and express your interest based on what you have read about the Faculty, you can also attach your CV and Transcript to the email.
Just be ready to email as much Profs as you can (1 out of 5 might respond)

I need some insights, from the professionals here,u guys are all wonderful, pls just think of a good response dat best suits this question;why pick this school, can one mention its because of distance which is 20mins from downtown, which will facilitate movement to n fro, during internship program, which requires one from conducting practicals in town and back in 20mins so as not to disrupt reports back on campus.

basically you can choose a school because of distance
But i don't think you should tell the vo this answer....find a solid reason,im not in support of you saying this, they're still better answers to this question....make a good research about your school and your department

hello guys, God is Great and He indeed answers prayers-
I was finally at the embassy today after so many inconsistencies in my application. 7:00 batch. I must say its really been a rough and long journey, getting into the main interview hall was like heaven to me. I felt something different; that i can explain. Normally i love teaching and love to express myself with my hands whenever I am talking but during my practice in front of a mirror I always sat down and thought that was how the interview would be. Fortunately, I just gained confidence (though i prayed much about that) when i realized it was a standing interview. In the hall, i noticed the VO in the third interview was just giving white paper. He interviewed more than ten people before myself and only denied a couple going for vacation(i must say the man didn't sound convincing).
This is how it went

VO: HELLO,(SMILES) PASS ME YOUR .....
ME: obliged
VO: TELL ME ABOUT YOUR STUDY PLAN IN THE US?
ME: (breathes in) I am going to GVSU for my masters in cell and molecular Biology with emphasis in Biotechnology. During a study period of 24 months I would be required to take 36 credit unit hours of courses including 5 electives scheduled for 9 credit hours per semester. After my study I intend to come back to Nigeria and take up a lecturing job at my home university where I would not only teach students but also motivate them to embrace a career in this rapidly developing field(at this point VO looks at me with interest) on the long run I intend to become a major proponent of Biotechnology here in Nigeria, establishing a research and development industry that will aim at exploiting local biomaterials to produce cheap and alternative bioproducts for the local populace.

VO: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 4, listed them

VO:Who is sponsoring you?
ME: My uncle
VO: what does he do?
ME: told him
VO: What did you study in your undergraduate?
ME: Biotechnology
VO: What have you been doing since after your NYSC?
ME: I finished my NYSC late 2016. Between the periods of January to may 2017, I worked as a voluntary academic tutor where i prepare students for the UTME, tutor them in science subjects like biology, carryout routine revision of past questions and answers. I also advice them on suitable career courses to choose in the University based on their past academic qualifications and dreams.(looks at me and tries to interrupt, i noticed because all this i was saying was not written in my DS 160 then i quickly continue) earlier this month i took up a contact job with Bleep as product contract manager (he then nods: perhaps is because this is what is on the DS 160) then i told him my job responsibilities.

VO: starts typing for few secs
ME: saying my hail mary

VO: So i'll be approving your visa, pick up at isolo....you will be needing your I20 at the POE
ME: Thank you Sir

That was it oooo. I must say some few things which is not quite different from what people have said in the past.
Prayer works: persistent prayer and fasting. specifically i prayed for a short and interactive interview without requesting any document.(my mum had a novena for me i also did my private prayers)
There is nothing there please just read about your school and know it. Please don't cram(i realized i was cramming last night when my sis gave me a mock interview- said i was just talking fast. i had to sit back and see meaning into everything i had to say then speak calmly and confidently)
Finally, pray again.
May God perfect his what He has started in our lives Amen!!!

Congrats man....God has done it. so happy for you. have a blessed journey ahead.

No reasons, I just did not consider them. Most schools I considered were recommendations from friends and family who had a direct experience/knowledge about schooling there.

I really wanna appreciate God almighty for everything. I have been on this journey since part6 (2014) but my visa was denied three times, so I had to take up other alternatives here by working at my place of work till God will say YES,. I also applied to Canada last year (Brandon University, Masters in Environmental & Life science) but visa was denied after 9weeks for Travel history & insufficient funds. All I believe is God's time will always be the best.. (Story for another day before Oga justwise go vex)

Fastfoward(Today). As I wake up around 3am, I think say na 7am.. Naso I rush do some normal routine serenre, dey rehearse how i fit take compose normally infront of the VO without fucking up. @Fredoricko called me some minutes later to congratulate me in advance, lol. Didn't leave my house until 5am, mhen, the rain wey fall today na ontop my head o. As I manage reach obalende, naso the rain con heavy, Mogbe,. I just pull off, carry my documents under my singlet, buttoned my shirt up to my neck, make rain no drop onto any of those stuff..

I got to the embassy around 6:10am.. I quickly joined the queue for 6:30appointment, Naso person shouted my name from the queue. *Ojah, wetin you con do for embassy*. (In my mind, I con meet my grandpapa). He is a friend from Unilag, going for MSc in Chemistry at MTSU with assistanship. Naso we con dey follow eachother like instagram on every stage from outside till the biometric stage.
Unfortunately, he was denied, as I stood behind him, as directed by the CGI guy, to be interviewed by the same VO (woman in her early 30s) in window 5..
The guy sef bleep up. VO was asking him "Why the school" and the guy dey tell VO say the school get nice building bla bla.. As she give am 214b, my mind cut.. Naso I carry myself go meet her..

Me: Goodmorning Ma'am

VO: (Didn't answer), Pass me your documents.
I obliged, Naso she dey type for some seconds..

VO: why are you going to USA

ME: I am going to USA to pursue my Masters in Geosciences with concentration in Palynology & Paleoenvironmental studies at GSU

VO: why Georgia state University

ME: I choose GSU because they offers concentration in Palynology.......(she cuts in)

VO: (Re-adjusts mic).Calm down, I don't really know about sciences, just explain your research interest to me so that I can understand..

ME: Like I said earlier (Now talking slowly and she was looking at me) I'd be going for MSc Geosciences, with concentration in Palynology, & Paleoenvironmental studies,. During this time, I'd be working directly with Dr ****** , we would be working on the Application of Plant pollen, its fossils and other palynological evidences in reconstruction of Past environment of the Quatenary(Pleistocene & Holocene Era).

VO: what course did you study in your undergraduate?

ME: Botany, I majored in Environmental Botany & Palynology

VO: (Nods*, and looking through my i20), You were given tuition waiver?

ME: Yes ma'am, Full tuition waiver with stipends.

VO: (Typing and looking at her screen). You applied to University of Baltimore before?

ME: (Mheen, my mind first cut, as Ubalt stuff was 3years ago and I was denied 3times in 2014).. Yes ma, I applied to study Forensic science but my visa was denied due to my inability to show home ties.

VO: Tell me about this course.

ME: I'd be required to complete 36credit hours in 28months. 15credit hours of core courses, 9credit hours of Electives, 3credit hours of seminar and 9credit hours of research thesis. (VO cuts in again, and fear come over catch me)

VO: what courses will you be taking?

ME: Physical & historical geology, Advanced Aqueous Geochemistry, Advanced Geoinformatics, Environmental Geology, Environmental conservation, Fossil plant & Paleoenvironment, Geobiology, Hydrology, Climate & weather.......

VO: (types like 2mins, Naso she put hand for where her blue papers dey.. My mind Don cut!.. She just carry one white paper from the upper box and drop my passport with her). You will get your visa in 3days at this location bla bla bla.. Naso I collect my i20, sevis printout and the white paper

Hello All, I'm impressed to find this platform and read some of the success and failures. Indeed it is an eye opener and I wished I had known about this platform before now.
However, I have a serious issue. I had an interview for student visa last week and was denied, but somehow the VO didn't return my passport to me and by the time I found out and asked them to call inside and get it for me I was told it's not there. Pls how can I get it as I am certain she didn't return it to me.
I also plan to reapply as soon as I can find my passport and will be needing your help on how to prepare better and get the visa.
Thank you.

Qatar airways have no problem landing in USA, in fact they plan to acquire 10% stake of America Airlines. They only have diplomatic problem with other GCC members. But if you are still skeptical about flying with it other airlines can be booked.
