When this issue started it was funny, now it is ridiculous. Such an uproar just because the bishop does not speak the native dialect, what if he is from sokoto, there would have been a third world war.

Mind you, this isn't a problem limited to the South East.

There was once an issue in one church in another denominaiton which resulted in divisions along tribal lines...and FYI....all the tribes were Middle Belt.

Please give specific examples

But one good thing about Christianity is that, we don't use Guns or Bombs to settle matters. Igbos, please you make people to view Christianity in the other way round. Northern Christians practice Christianity well even amidst persecution. You have total freedom of worship in the East that's why you are doing the protest. But I still appreciate you for not using Bombs or harmful objects like in the case of other Religion.....
Igbo's..,. Pls, you are all Igbos. I know Yoruba man cannot lead in Hausa Central Mosque.

disgruntled elements masquerading in ecclesiastical garments. Is Jesus Christ from Nigeria? To even think priests who are supposed to entrench and who understands the Roman Catholic canon law are the ones spearheading, sponsoring and propagating this barbaric and ridiculous imbroglio.

Amongst other reasons like? I wish someone from there can throw more like the n these reasons. Being a non-indigene to me is a non-issue.
If they have NEVER had an indigene despite having suitably qualified sons that can fit into that post, the pope and HIS Catholic administrators should do the needful.

See them. Just because an ipob man is not from IMO state, he was rejected. This is what we re going to be expecting when they eventually have Biafra as a country. No unity among them in anyway. The Bishop of rivers state is a northern man. Yet u didn't hear any noise from the rivers people.
is rivers state a diocese?

There was tension yesterday at the Ahiara Catholic Diocese in Ahiazu Mbaise Council Area of Imo state as the planned public protest and procession by the laity council over the appointment of Peter Ebele Okpalaeke as the Bishop of the diocese was aborted by the heavy presence of armed policemen and other security agencies who were stationed at all strategic junctions leading to the diocese.

Over 3, 000 faithful of Ahiara Diocese of the Catholic Church converged on the Mater Ecclesiae cathedral, Mbaise in Imo State for a rally to restate their total rejection of the embattled Bishop Peter Ebele Okpaleke.

Okpaleke was anointed and consecrated bishop of the diocese by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 but both the Laity Council and the priests in the diocese rejected his appointed on the grounds that he is not an indigene of the area, among other reasons.

The angry faithful of the diocese said they were only fighting alleged imposition of a bishop on the diocese and not the Catholic Pontiff.

The diocesan youths, who put on black attire, chanted solidarity songs to reaffirm their support for the position taken by the Ahiara Diocese clerics and the laity council’s to rejection of Okpaleke.

Other Catholic men and women who dressed in different church uniforms, also participated in the rally, which started with a rosary procession round the cathedral.

This was just as the Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha has appealed for calm, urging the priests and laity of the diocese to sheathe their swords.

When tribalism makes you foolish and surely leads you on an express path to hell.

Now this should clearly lay bare the excruciating defect of the biafra cause right from the very beginning. If even within a religious body and despite the verdict of none other but the Pope who's globally revered, fellow Ibos cannot see eye-to-eye on a spiritual matter which is God's domain, then tell me what will become of biafra; you and I know it'll be a total fiasco.

Very stupid people. Is there supposed to be anything like tribe in the church? Very senseless thing to do. The man is even an igbo yet they are saying he is not an indigene. These are same people who want Biafra yet they can't tolerate themselves.
The stupid fool who is calling for Biafra is a british citizen which he has not renounced and his family is in the UK. He is here calling for war. So that the poor ones can die and his family will be in UK chilling. Mtcheew. Stupid things

I don't care what others believe!! I've been a victim of tribalism and so have you.. Nigeria is obviously run along very unequal lines, but this right here is NOT the issue. The Church has a lotta problems and some ppl are even resisting the pontiff! Annoying ppl like u don't even know what's on ground.. The pope would believe everything his reps tell him! My bro served there, face issues and forget Biafra.

"Igbos don't like each other", pray tell, do Nigerians like each other? Call me Igbo, if datz what it takes to infuse sense to ur flawed reasoning.

Na by force to be Catholic, if you can't obey your pope go join/form your own church angry

Ultimately, religion/church does not give you a first class ticket to heaven but the salvation of your soul.

I Hope you know what comes out of churches formed on the foundation of disobedience? This is where Pentecostals get it wrong. You can't form a church on disobedience and such church will last. Very soon, another disobedience will rise among them and they will divide again. You people claim to be spiritual, yet you lack basic knowledge of spirituality.
