If you are between the age range of 30- 35, Forget that career bro.

It will take you 10 yrs minimum of constant flying to build your hours to get a good paying job. it will cost you between $50k - $75k for the training and another $25k for type rating. so be looking at a cost range of bout $75k-$100k.

You will do your PPL, Instrument Rating and CPL.
PPL=Private Pilots License
Instrument Rating = flying blinfolded and with just the aid of the planes avionics and Instruments, in essense flying at night.
CPL+ flying a faster plane with a landing gear and also speed in excess of 250 Miles an Hr .
Type rating= Learning how to fly the particular plane that interestes you.

Most of all look for a sponsor, and God help you bro.

I visited a flight school in the US last Christmas, $34000 dollars PPL to ATPL(I think, can't remember). But after training na Nigeria you land. Unless you fall in love n get married. N then you can work in US.

Airline Cadet programs Mehn it's majorly for there citizens n green card holders.

truth be said, its an overrated career like the other poster said. hundreds of qualified pilots are still seating at home..no jobs. Nigeria aviation sector is so bleak.

But you can try home tutored flight simulators like mine. i use XPLANE 10, FSX, AND PREPARD3D. with this softwares you can comfortably learn the procedures of piloting an aircraft.and earn cool rewards or even see sponsorship if you fly mostly online. KLM AND VIRGIN ATLANTIC do virtual airline programs and cadets where either paid cool cash or recruited. you can go a long way with that with knowing the basics

you already know about the prohibitively expensive

costs but what you don't know is the bleak outlook of

the employment market. There are over 600

unemployed pilots in Nigeria ,so unless you are keen to

become a part of that statistic after spending millions of

naira(atleast 12M), forget about being a pilot; this job is

highly overated.

If she really has a passion for flying and not the "money", then she can get a CFII rating and become and instructor. That's one of the fastest ways to build hours.
Constant flying would yield an average of 300-500hrs/yr.

I'm not discouraging her, just giving her factual evidence,
as opposed to unsubstantiated Bragado you are
consoling her with. There are guys who have finished
since 2010 complete with type rating and yet to log a
single paid flight hour, and the thing about flying is the
longer you stay without flying the more you lose
proficiency; You become less employable .
The situation is so bad that early this year Azman
started a pay to fly scheme where qualified commercial
Pilots who had spent upwards of 15m for basic training,
10,000 dollars for type rating were being asked to bring
15,000 dollars to fly for Azman and log jet hours without
pay.

I decided to check out the various flight schools around the world on the internet and I discovered one major thing , it's expensive . My question is that , how can I get a good sponsor to help with the fees , some foreign airlines offer cadet programs but you have to pay some sort of bond first . I would gladly appreciate any information guys . Thanks
