You are missing an important point.
Some relationships are casual and when such hit the rocks,
no one would complain.

But there are some where the guy pretended to be serious
with promises,
prompting the partner to assume the wife role and going
extra mile only for the guy to pull up a surprise and
and bring up an unknown girlfriend.

It is just like a business negotiation, the party who gain the
least will always feel bad, even if they both benefited from the deal.

If you don't want your partner to feel used, do not promise
anything you can't deliver.
