Because men ignore major health issues and live more stressful lives trying to be family heads.

The men are usually older. nature demands that they die first.

I wouldn't wish anyone younger than me to die before me. It's not natural.

Its not an age thing, some even die before 50, it has more to do with stress, exposure to risk and the pressures of having to take care of multiple mouths both immediate and extended family mouth.

Those with less mouths to support and a supportive wife (financially) live longer.

Average life expectancy of a man in Nigeria is btw 46-52 years while a woman is 48-54 years.
I won't even bother going into the risk taking behaviour of men such as drink driving, engaging in violent crimes which ultimately cuts their lives shorter than their female counterparts. Oh, did I also tell you that men also have a higher risk of having heart diseases such as hypertension, cardiac arrest? (Oestrogen hormone in women offer some protection, so don't give me the story that it's because the men feed their families, women also provide and even do more ).
So many other reasons as discussed in some previous threads.
However, one major IMPORTANT thing you should realise about single parent households (where its not a case of divorce, but of loss of life of a partner) is that more men after the loss of a spouse remarry, so you won't even consider them as single parent households, and they are not seen as part of your statistics (which they should have been) unlike their female counterparts who don't remarry and go on to raise their children alone.

Modified: lonikit, Also of note is that our society is polygamous.
If a man with 4 wives dies, he will leave behind 4single parent households unlike if any of his wives die, leaving behind only one 1single parent household.( that's even still debatable, as you can't consider that family single parent since the co-wives will easily cover the absence of the wife that died)

And you live in la la land.

I have just stated researched facts for you, where even google will bring out articles and references for you, and the best excuse you can give to counter it is to call me a feminist?
That's the lamest thing I've heard all week. You need to do better. We need right thinking men, not moved by emotions and sentiments to make Nigeria greater.

Boy, I thought you want an intelligent conversation

Take it to romance section and have them tell you what you want to hear.

The chances of a woman dying early is high during the early years of marriage due to childbearing.
Apart from that women takes care of themseLves more than men by trying to be in shape, eating healthy while men smokes and drinks and other unhealthy lifestyles.
Men are older than their wives so first come first go.
Men only go to the hospital if they had an accident or after they pass out. That may even lead to their death or an undiagnosed untreatable disease may be found. Antenatal visits helps women a lot cause most of this are detected during those visits and follow up are made too.
Men takes reskless risk and may not survive it while women endure more.

Do you know that the number of women attempting suicide are four times more than men but men has the most number of completed suicide more than women. Google and see.

I think lot of factors comes into play here.

Usually, the men are older but more often than not their deaths don't occur during old age but within the ages of 40s to 60s...I don't consider men in this age bracket old whether life expectancy in Africa says so. Due to the fact that the man carries a greater burden of responsibility, they're prone to heart attacks which kills more than HIV, and most don't pay attention to their health. Lastly, using my dad for example, as an African if you don't believe in voodoo then you're an alien. If you must destroy a plant, you'd have to cut-off its root to prevent it from growing again, having this in mind...some men where killed either through poisoning or through some spiritual attack 'cause it's believed since they're the head of the homes, attacking them first would render the offspring usesless not knowing that there's God who sees beyond what any man could imagine.
