Do you have access to the magoosh videos? If yes, I'd greatly appreciate it if you can post the link here or sent to my mail. (op.tosin@gmail.com). Thank you very much.

Hello bro, I would advise to go through this thread from page 1 as your first step towards the USA dream.

The best time to write the GRE would be when you know that you've prepped well and the session that you're also targeting.
Are you targeting spring 2018 (January) or Fall 2018 (August/ September)?

As regards tutorials, I don't know about your basic grasp with Basic Maths and intermediate/high level level vocabs but I could say that you don't really need a class room tutorials, there are various smart ways to do that and magoosh videos is a great alternative.

I did request for permission as well, even though I wasn't the one who asked for it.

I would suggest that you try this Grad School Finder. You can enter your profile and according to previous years trends you will be able to see the universities where you can get. They will show you schools in Safe, Moderate and Ambitious.
Link: https://yocket.in/university-courses/recommend
You can also check the previous years admits here. It would help.

hello gurus in the house, I am planning on writing GRE in Oct and I need some material. I have gotten barron, gruber and the official ETS material. I don't knw if anyone can assist with 5lb Manhattan series and Magoosh materials.

Secondly I have a Bsc (3.86/5) In geology and Msc in petroleum Geosciences (4.84/5). I Have a published paper in a well recognised journal (NAPE). I intend going for PHD but if not possible I can go for another MSc spring or fall 2018. What are my chances of getting funding and I need advice of safe schools that offer geology.

Please who can explain the procedures on how to apply for an international passport? Do I need to do any online registration before proceeding to the immigration office? I'm quite perplexed. I'd like to apply this week. Also I'm in Lagos. Which branch is the easiest to get a passport? I'll appreciate your response. Thanks.

You won't need any online reg. Go with your local govt of origin certificate, birth certificate and two copies of passport photographs.

The answer you seek is on the previous page.

However,

I used them and paid from port harcourt, if you can't risk it please visit their Lagos office.

The company is genuine, over 6months and no issues with my registration. I don't work for them, the cheap price is just too sweet for you not to grab am.

This is the first thing you should start working on moving ahead. GRE is the single most important exam that you should nail to kick start the things. On an average people need a preparation of about 45-60 days to crack GRE with flying colors. Now if you are applying for fall intake then September would be an ideal time to give your GRE. You should anyhow get done with it before mid-October.

Read the full article here about the timelines: https://yocket.in/blog/study-abroad-tips-and-information-38/ms-in-us-timeline-fall-intake-961

Morning, guys.
The computer-delivered test and the paper-delivered test: Apart from the huge difference in score reporting time frame and, of course, the extra 5 one-minute-a-question questions on the latter, what other advantages does the computer-delivered have over the paper-delivered? What other things are imputed to the paper-delivered? In essence, I'd appreciate a comparison.

Has anyone in the house ever given both? Is there any evidence that the questions on the paper-delivered are harder? Does picking the paper-delivered have any negative impact on admissions or anything for that matter? Answers to these questions couldn't possibly be found on the official site. It's why I've come to ask the ELDERS of this thread. Please, I need fresh insights into these.
Thanks

This thread has been so enlightening and insightful.
Graduated earlier this year, Petroleum Engineering (4.56/5 and top of my graduating class).Scheduled to take GRE in late August. Looking at USC, UT Austin, Penn State, LSU and my dream but probably unlikely choice Stanford(Energy Resources Engineering).
How realistic are my chances of getting a fully funded masters. Had a good undergraduate thesis and worked under a Prof' s research group. Is applying to USC's Petroleum Engineering PhD program realistic without an Msc? Are there any other schools I should be looking at?

If you can ace the GRE, and with excellent LORs and SOP, you'll definitely make a competitive applicant; and I think getting a straight PhD in USC is very achievable, I'd advice you get in touch with alums from the school either via LinkedIn or the visa thread so you can get first-hand info from em, mail the grad coordinator of the department too and discuss what your chances are. All the best.

Well you never know until you apply. However research experience is fundamental to a PhD program which we don't have in Nigeria. I think you should try applying for a masters. You can also look to European universities too.

Prof sirRiddy, I'm only trying to follow the footsteps of yourself and the other "elders" in the house. Appreciate your continuous contributions to the thread.

@bolded, Sure, I've read the thread but there's no discounting your sage advice whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Here's my profile:

Undergraduate GPA: (Petroleum Engineering, from Nigeria uni, ) 3.09/5 (2.97/3- WES)
TOEFL: 104 (R 30, L 28, S 24, W 22)
GRE: 309 (Q 157, V 152, A 3.5)

Target Schools:
University of Tulsa, Oklahoma
Louisiana state university, Baton rouge.
(No categorisation, since safe schools are no longer safe)
Still searching for others (applying to few schools due to financial constraints, after all it's only one admit one needs wink )

While I understand that PhDs are the priority when it comes to funding, I'm yet to see how a PhD suits my career projections atm. Hence, I'm looking at an MSc in Petroleum Engineering (despite the downturn)

Will appreciate any intel on the aforementioned schools and others... Respect!

Hi, with the aforementioned profile. I won't advise you to apply to LSU or Tulsa, they are a bit competitive for oily courses. Especially, ur GPA it doesn't cut it.

You can look at moderate schools in Oily states. With this strategy you can get internship faster and from there possibly secure job.

No negative impact for the paper-based test. ETS tries to level the playing ground for everyone. Other than the key points you already noted, I wouldn't worry about either of them. Choose the one more comfortable, and available, to you. Back then, I wrote the pbt because it was the only type in my state.
- For the pbt, you'll hand write your AWA instead of typing, so you'll want to make it clear and legible. And you also get a basic function calculator.

Thank you so much!
I just read your post on page 206 smiley
I've gathered that there are two AWAs. Is this true, did you have two AWAs in your time?
Also, how did section-level adaptiveness play out?
I'm a Fall 2018 aspirant, and my thinking is that the 6weeks score reporting period wouldn't matter. Am I thinking ok? Would you advise the paper-based?
