When was the last time minimum wage was increased? Nigeria needs a Jerry Rawlings style of takeover now. As in ASAP!

Bros pls ur area does not translate to the entire nation.
Wen we get to over 6000MW, we will know.
5000MW is still the peak of our power production and that was back in 2015.

You can only increase tarif when all meters are shared properly .

NCC regulates tariffs for Telecom companies.
Fashola should tell NERC to do thier jobs.

The govement can and should regulates energy tariffs
.
grin
No mind the phool, when NCC no c front-door to increase tarrif rateuse, they used the backdoor to half data cap and now Fashola is saying people should fold their hands and watch on.
Also, he said “It doesn’t mean every time a minor review is due, the tariff will increase. If exchange rate is N165 (to a dollar) when the tariff was reviewed and then it goes to N400, put yourself in their shoes,” who made $1=#400? Isn't it their team of blind, senseless and foolish leaders?

What NERC and the Minister should do is to compel all Discos to connect All or 95% of Nigerians to Prepaid meters.

People can then use what they can afford just like the GSM telephones. The big Onus is on Discos to checkmate bypassing by monitoring and punishing those found guilty.

Issuing estimated bills to people is unlawful and unacceptable and metering transformers instead of individuals is also wrong because some people have/use more electrical gadgets than others.

Now what you stated is the ultimate solution in my opinion.A lot of posters talk based on emotions rather than facts.Fashola this buhari that when what we have facing us is a systemic problem.

9jakohai has explained some of the reasons why tariff should be increased and why the discos won't want prepaid meters for everyone, they simply won't make enough money.I can decide to put of my meter for a week but power given to disco by genco has to be paid for .

You should also consider the fact that some of this NEPA boys make some cash during disconnection week.

We Nigerians are also part of the problem , we by pass meters and then the innocent people who use estimated billing will have to pay.
Infact there are lot of places where people use light and they don't pay any bills, both prepaid and post paid, who pays for the electricity- those on estimated billing.
There are also people that detest prepaid system because they use electricity heavily and don't want to pay for it some have small manufacturing stuffs in their home and they pay the same amount as a flat, those ones will outrightly reject any attempt for metering because they know they will run bankrupt if they attempt it.

People who have prepaid meter in areas where electricity supply is quite good are complaining because they can't use some appliances.

Bottom line is do whatever you can to get a prepaid meter, if its to wait for one year I will oo, and yes I believe they are hoarding it especially EKEDC.

A beg fashy this man, what has privatization done for power supply in the country, the discos have not improved their services, no meters, no infrastructural investment, they re just interested in stealing money on a daily basis.

Looking forward to when we shall alternative power supply from other sources apart from discos.

you ain't serious, so selfish you could be...have u cared about the citizen paying the tariff...there minimum wage as of when $1 was equivalent to #165 ,today still receive same pay that dollar is 1#=#360,some states govt even slashed there workers salary to 75% ,and you are only considering the discos...not even after paying it u enjoy light, instead paying for darkness

Get the fraudulent DISCOs to meter everyone and then increase their tariff. That is the just way to go about it. Not when they are sucking peoples blood through estimated bills and our minister is pretending not to know what is going on. Nonsense!

NERC actually regulates tariffs in the power sector....they act as the organization that keeps things from getting out of hand. But there is a limit to how they can dictate to DISCOS .....and by law(set up as part of the law allowing for the privatization of power....which was passed long before Fashola thought about being a minister in 2014)...DISCOS can raise tariffs/bills.

Power ministry these days does not have much to do....except run transmission (which was not privatized due to national security reasons ).....and the transmission system is in need of replacement...and the DISCOS are the ones who raise money via the bills we pay for that.

Nnaji was kicked out because he had an interest in one of the companies bidding for the GENCOS concessions.....which was against the law (though it was the excuse needed by the generator lobby to kick him out).

Still, even then, it was only parts of the country that got steady supply. For improved power supply...we need to geenrate far more than the 5000MW we manage to do.

I have always had the same thought about this power issue as do many commentators on this forum before yesterday. But now I know better. Without mincing words, I think this administration has done well in this sector. And just like the Minister said, there's still a long way to go; it's not yet an Eldorado.

The above quote is the most annoying I have read in a while. Are they the only ones that have shoes. They should also cry with Nigerians that your gov't should do something about the exchange rate. Instead of passing he heat to us who are already in the flames.

This dude I thought you were educated. Or are you a shareholder in a disco.

Yes you re very correct bt considering the fact that power grew up steadily during his tenure I believe we would probably be in the neighborhood of 8-10k megawatts if he had continued . The guy's a professional and he understands the power business well besides he achieved much without any arbitrary price hike.
