Benita27:Nigerians should turn down offers, it's a legit opinion and it will make companies to pay much more than they are offering now. For example First bank Owerri (HQ) pay 61k(2014 salary) to OND holders. in that branch they employ only 4 degree holders(they earn over 200k per month + upfront) and 26 OND holders .... These guys basically work 10 - 12 hours daily. Yet first bank will make an average of 2 - 4 billion naira monthly as profits and yet pay out peanuts. It's not about pride or humility. If we had stronger unions or institutions, our youths won't be exploited like this. In conclusion, firms should pay in accordance to what they earn/job description...... Nigerian firms always exploit our graduates because they know we have no other option. Lack of education is why we do not know we should turn out some jobs. In some cases Degree holders earn 15k in nigeria, this is far less than what a tomato seller, shoemaker, basic carpenter, plumber makes in a month |

PrecisionFx:You may have a point. About First Bank making 2 billion monthly - please dont forget that firstbank did not fall from the sky. people have shares there they bought with money. they deserve dividends! if yo share the profits to the staff what would the investors get? Dont forget there are millions of them! I am not saying that employers should pay peanuts, but please put yourself in their shoes. If it is that easy no one will look for work in the first place. |

Appliedmaths:Congrats to you. And let us learn to give the glory to God. But please dont look down or talk down on those who started with less. At the end of the day it is how well a man finishes that matters. In a race, some start so strong and end up last. Some start slow and win the race. It is how you finish. I pray that as you started well you will also finish well. |

Dee60:You didn't read my initial post bro, I gave 2 conditions to take 30k as a fresh graduate... to amaze you I thought for the same 30k but Lord knew it was a make shift. This is the same me that sat at home for 7 months all to my shakara before I got what I wanted, so then again it's about perception. I saw graduates scramble for 30k jobs at ikeja, to me I felt something was wrong with them reasons being that those jobs were not temporary nor a short trainee period. I once embarrassed myself in an interview panel of 2 when they offered 40k... I attended interviews with top firms like sawobona, Venture garden group, Fidson, signal alliance, Meristem securities, etc the A-list before I got what I'm doing now. So you see bro, it's self worth and not accepting peanuts no matter what. I purposely contributed to this thread to help correct that peanut mentality most graduate carry about. Na gra gra to do jungle justice back man get, we can't unite to end all these monkey salaries. |

For a fresher who has no experience, I think it is okay, after all one would not be in the same position, same company forever. It's all about perception! You can be there working while also considering yourself an Intern. Even the "almighty banks" pay less than N50,000 to new intake in the first 6 months (training school). It is easy to condemn this pay but truth is that majority of the so called graduates started with NOTHING. |

Appliedmaths:its true not to accept but the youths of nowadays only think about I don't want to sit down @home or I want to build my CV...but it is really bad for a graduate in this present economy to earn less than $150 a month that is 60k a month owing to the present economy I once worked earning less than 30k but its of no use nothing to show for I cant even club or enjoy myself and live a boring life cuz it doesn't take me anywhere but for people who desperately need to feed so that we won't die of hunger should take it...for my proper feeding as a single person I shouldn't be spending nothing less than 20k a month... seriously is inside 35k I will rent house feed by working cloth its too bad and our government ain't helping we need to sharp up the guy is right 35k is nothing...any job that can't take u out of your father's house is not a job.... plus the thing annoys me the most is 8-5pm that someone will be working am I an engine that will sit down in the office from morning till evening earning less than $100...its really painful...we are dying we youths are dying by now if not for these useless APC that block everything for person I should av hammered by now..... hustle hard all this 8-5pm job for less than 50k na waste and wash... |

I remember when I just left nysc and was offer a job immediately, they wanted me to head a department in the company for 60k. I felt sad when going home after the interview because I was told they will only pay me half of my salary for the first 2 month incase I decide to resign without properly informing them. Their HR was even trying to bully me into accepting the job. I had to call her to inform her that I won't be taking the job because of the job responsibility which will be too much for me, low remuneration and HR attitude though I had no job offer from anywhere then. Exactly one month later,I got another job with the same pay package but far less job description, seminar opportunities and personal freedom. I only spent a year there, my salary was increased twice, I brought in 4 of my friends and the head of the company still send me message till date to know how am faring and appreciate my work while I was with them. I secret is just know your worth, not every job is yours but if you stay truth to yourself, that which is yours will definitely get to you. |

Afritop:First of all, only ayobo and ajegunle are in Lagos the rest are in another state. I live in ayobo and I worked at Ikeja GRA (Adekunle Fajuyi) from ayobo, it's #200 bus to oshodi and you drop at Ladipo or sogunle whichever is convenient, then 100 naira napep depending on the location so in all to and fro u spend about 600,multiplied by 30 days that's 18000 so it's not a loss. As for the job, it's all about perception and what the person wants. It may be a CV building job. How many workers do big firms employ? How many jobs did anyone create to employ and pay so much? Every employer seeks to make profit and can NEVER pay you enough. Those that earn much work hard for it. Those that are interested should apply, u never can tell. As for those who waited and got their dream job, there are not many like you. Different strokes for different people |
