ollyruffy: This was done by that jobless man Aganga . Between the agents and customs they came up with the con of charging a lot more than what the duty should be the 'do' you a favor by manipulating the model year so you pay less and they share the rest but the con here is that you won't go tell anyone that you cheated the government. How many people wey take someone else's child to do money medicine go report the babalawo as fake? 1 Like |

EgunMogaji: The reason why you people still think that it's agents you must have beefs with still baffles me and you make it seem as of Nigeria is the only place that we've licensed customs brokers. There's no section in the Nigerian constitution that stops an average Nigerian from becoming licensed as an agent, if you even have around N20m - N30m to spare, you can even setup a DTI, no problem with that. You can also clear your goods and vehicles yourself without the help of any agent in Nigeria,if you can go through the rigors or do you think that many of us make too much money from it that we don't want to leave it if we get better opportunities, do you know how many weeks we stay at home when we don't have jobs to process. And before you go on with the " there are no custom agents/broker in America" , why is there a " NATIONAL CUSTOMS BROKERS AND FORWARDERS ASSOCIATION" with their head office at 1200 18th NW#901 Washington DC 20036 . Headquartered in Washington, DC, the NCBFAA represents more than 970 member companies with 110,000 employees in international trade - the nation's leading freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean transportation intermediaries (OTIs), NVOCCs and air cargo agents, serving more than 250,000 importers and exporters. Established in 1897 in New York, NCBFAA is the effective national voice of the industry. Through its various committees, counsel and representatives, the Association maintains a close watch over legislative and regulatory issues that affect its members. It keeps them informed of these and other related issues through its weekly Monday Morning eBriefing, and various meetings and conferences throughout the year. 1 Like

EgunMogaji: Hope you didnt miss this section :- "Law prohibits CBP officers from acting as agents or making entries for an importer. However, you may employ a commercial CBP broker to handle your entry". Which means that there are custom brokers that can handle your jobs at the ports and airports in America, if you decide to use their services but you made it seem like that there are no agents at all in the U. S. |

saintjoel: How can I miss any sections when I import vehicles into the US without agents? Do you not read to comprehend? The reason why you exist in Nigeria is because of the clusterfuck system. There's no need for an agent to clear something as simple as a motor vehicle. It's not rocket science. 3 Likes |

saintjoel: Despite all the nonsense that you wrote , normal citizens do pay the duties on importation without an agent which is the point of my post. Yes if you're a company then I suppose you'll need an agent. The hunger in Nigeria just creates a feasting orgy for all sorts of delinquent professions. 7 Likes |

E passport for 17500 can't be process by self immigration officer will tell you 30k Drivers licence for 6350 road safety will tell you 15k Clearing of goods agent will quote different price If you try doing it yourself online you meet brickwall made by corrupt men in charge trying to feast on people. There's a lot of connivance between Nigeria Customs Service Officials and agents. Most times, agents pay just a fraction of what they charged the importer or car owner as duty. This amount paid represents what the NCS officials have agreed with agents as being sufficient for the particular year model and another percentage of the money is shared between them. From a personal experience, the major reason clearing of cars is shrouded in secrecy is the level of kickbacks in the process for which the agents & NCS officials benefit hugely from. Sometime last year, I sought to know if I could clear my car by myself; the reality is NCS official in collaboration with Agents will frustrate your effort to achieve this. The question is; why is it difficult for an importer to walk into the NCS formation to obtain the cost of of clearing his/her consignment without the need for a middleman? 2 Likes 1 Share |

saintjoel: I didn't quote you, you quoted me. See, based on your signature you're inconsequential to me . Me not being in your personal demographics doesn't make me ineligible to participate in my country's affair and I don't need your permission. bravolad: Most of this Baba Lati agents are nothing but parasites on the system. Most, not all. Before I left Nigeria in the 80's when she was still good, agents were educated and represented clients. Now what we seemingly have are mostly frustrated unemployed misfits parading around as agents. You won't be able to clear on your own because they'll frustrate you. This is why I posted earlier about the US table and someone else posted about Ghana. Calculating and paying your duties should be a simple process that even a primary 6 student can do. Now you have the Nigerian system where they throw in mostly ineffectual shysters. The hunger is real. 3 Likes 1 Share |

EgunMogaji: You're also inconsequential to me. I've a job ,which coupled with a farm brings food to my table and i've defended what I do to the best of my ability. I've been clearing vehicles and general cargo for more than six years,so I'm not a baby when it comes to clearing and forwarding . You don't also need my permission before you contribute to any discussion or discussions on Nairaland,at least you're not using my phone neither have I loaned you data. As long as there's a provision in the law that states that agents can go about their lawful duties in the ports or land borders and you can't also come down to Nigeria to carry a placard or start a movement that will change government policies, you're so inconsequential to me. 1 Like |

EgunMogaji: I still don't know why you all keep ranting about agents,as if we were the ones that formulated the policies. You as an agent will collect N7.5m for a job, customs will tell you to pay N5m+ as bank payment and you will still spread almost N2. something plus as table money, yet people will not complain. It's only agent this, agents that. As at 2015 before the policies were implemented, the agent body went on strike to protest that high handedness of government and customs, was it not the importer's themselves that forced them back to work when they started complain that the goods and vehicles were stranded in the ports and land borders. If they has allowed agents to go on with the strike, will they be complaining right now. 2 Likes |

saintjoel: It begs to ask why you quoted me since I'm inconsequential? If your profession disappears from the country today, the country will still run. You're not only inconsequential to me but to almost all Nigerians. And I think you and your ilk know this and why you are all up in arms. I just don't care nearly enough about grown men that are parading around as if they are performing world saving duties. When primary six students can calculate duties due and make an electronic transfer based on it. You're about as useful to me as a used soda pop top. 4 Likes |

EgunMogaji: EgunMogaji: Wow, I didnt know that you're actually keeping tabs in how long agents will last, it's so nice. For your info, importation was stopped at the border and till now no agent has been unable to feed his or her family. Imports have dropped in the ports, we're still moving on. I run a licensed agency and a DTI, even if agents and banned from the ports today, I'll still make my money before you can move your goods, unless ETLS is scrapped throughout the world. Incase you'll like to know, I am a graduate with a degree in Economics (LASu 2005), Diploma in Computer science (OOU 1997), CNNA certified with a Masters in Business Administration (LASU 2014) and I also run a company that helps a local government raise IGR through market permits and I also have farm which contains a piggery, poultry,a cassava and banana section,so to hell with anybody that says agents are dying breeds, na soldier go and soldier come. As long as agents are still working,i will defend what I do. Abeg, Na Sunday evening be this, make I find something better to do. 1 Like |
