As it is, your passport has six months validity and if you are only spending two weeks, that is good enough.
However, if I were you, I would go renew the passport. It shouldn't take more than a day or two

hello house, first I want to commend d good job everyone is doing here. Now my question is that my passport will expire in February 2018 and my visa January 2018. I plan to travel july 29,to spend 2 weeks and someone told me that its essential that my passport has full 6 months validity to have a smooth entry into d usa. His advise is that I renew my passport before coming to the usa. House pls I need advise on this.

Since this will be your first time traveling to U.S why not renew the passport just to avoid story.

Good day everyone.

Thanks for this enlightening thread.

I have a slight challenge, my company is re-branding: hence a change of name has occurred.

I have a different company name to the one i filled on my DS 160 form.

Which name do I go with at the POE?

it's not a big deal.. just in case have a newspaper publication or evidence of such change of name/rebranding with you when traveling.

My worries about renewing my passport that will expire in feb 2018 is that, will this not even raise questions like why renew ahead since I will return in 2wks well ahead d expiration. Also the last time I renewed, vacant pages of the old one were cancelled without prejudice. Pls need more advise

if this is not your first.. you're free to travel to U.S I see no big deal in this especially since you're going for just 2 weeks.

my gratitude goes to seyewest especially and others nairaland members who have contributed to this thread. I landed in IAH yesterday. The CBP had a lot of jobs on their hands as people are too many. I can't even remember any other questions he asked. The stories here made me prepare well and God made my passing through a success. Thanks all.

I have called the QatarAir Nigerian office twice.

Kept on hold for 5mins, no show. Second call, it rang for over a minute and no one picked.

Thanks to everyone for your immense help and responses.

We (spouse, kid and I) will be travelling to the U.S next month and it's our first visit to America.

Our application stated Miami as destination but tickets are so expensive this summer that we decided to book a flight to New York and intend to get a domestic flight from JFK to Miami the following morning. We have booked a night stay at a hotel close to JFK and another 14 nights stay at the Miami hotel.

I am a bit worried now because we have a contact in New York (also stated in our application) and it may sound like we are changing our destination because we have someone in New York to accommodate us.

The domestic flights seen online are costly and we hope to get cheaper options when we go to the local airport the following day.

Is there something we should be worried about?

Thanks in anticipation

Ordinarily, I don't think it should be a problem based on the links below. But if you can renew before then, why not just do it.

As long as your story stacks up, you should be fine. The bolded is what i dont get and it might backfire on you.

I highly suggest you buy your domestic tickets before you leave Nigeria. That way, even if the POE officer doubts your story, your domestic

tickets would bail you out. Hope you understand what i am trying to say.

Process your stay as how? I thought you applied for a visiting visa.. I will advise you to ask the CBP officer at the airport on how to process your stay, they will be in the best position to take you through the application and process. Good luck

The earlier you book, the cheaper the flights bro.
And NY to Miami is quite a distance.
My advice to you would have been to book your flight to DC or Atlanta instead, then rent a car and drive to Miami.
That would save you a ton of cash and also give your family a chance to take in the scenery.
You can even spend the night at hotels along the way if you like

If you need to, just go to the airport ad go to their office there.

As long as your layover is over eight hours, you are entitled to accommodation

Or you can ask when you get there for your check in

call or write Qatar directly in Doha... Or skype them... they will be the one to make it happen not the Nigerian office on phone except you go to the office in person.

I understand things are very expensive now and it's normal for you to want to save cost but in doing so you have to be careful about it.
You should be able to get and confirm your ticket from New York to Miami before leaving Nigeria because it's very very important not only for trust issue but also for you to have a smooth and memorable holiday, stress is not a good thing.
If you can provide me with the date you want to travel to Florida I will try to help you with cheap flights to Florida from New york.

I forgot to add. I sat with a racist on the plane to Texas. Lol!
From the moment he saw i was to sit by him. I saw his countenance and immediately knew he was a racist. As we were in the air..he started complaining that I was using my body to touch him. I adjusted abit....and ignored him. As God will have it, he dozed off and used his orange head to hit my shoulders, Omo if u see as i flare up, hey bro, u sit up ok and never hit me with your head again(forming ascent). The way i talked with my voice raised, everyone close looked at our direction. The flight attendant nearby came to ask what was wrong, i told her, tell this guy here to put his head straight up and not hit me again cos he complained a couple of mins ago my body was touching him while im just sitting like everyone else ( i was forming ascent) cheesy. I stood up immediately to the rest room, everyone around immediately knew what was going on, one particular white guy, winked and smiled at me. U need to see the face of the racist...it was red with anger....the guy nor fit sleep again.

I love your act cheesy

Hello ,please anyone travelling this month or early next month to the US ,kindly help me send books to my sister ,I don't mind paying for the luggage. Thank you.

This question raises lots of red flags!
Anyone that can afford to pay a traveler for helping to carry luggage should be able to pay for courier service, at least NIPOST courier service. Equally, just saying going to US is so vague, the book would still be posted in US anyway.

Accepting to carry anything from a stranger is the easiest way a traveler can land himself in a foreign country's jail.

It is perfectly legal to give birth in the US you however have to make your intentions known at the point of interview.

So my question is were you pregnant during your interview or not?

If you got pregnant way after the visa was issued, then delay your journey till you are about 34-36 weeks gone, get a doctor and hospital in the state you're visiting to accept you for childbirth if possible pay the fee in advance and travel.

At the POE when asked let them know you are their for childbirth and present all doctor's / hospital's correspondence. You should have no issue whatsoever. Also go thru the 'giving birth in US thread' and you will be better informed. start reading from part 1 to atleast part 3.

If however you LIED/MISREPRESENTED in your interview... OYO is your case.

NB: forget the 2 weeks vacation for a 7 months preg lady. Even me wey no be VO will doubt your story because why will a 7months pregnant lady fly over 23hrs for a vacation and fly back in 2 weeks? That is stress

You can re apply for a visa and come out clean in your DS 160 form.

You can also go the dropbox route though you'll most likely be called for an interview, come out clean and say the TRUTH as to what transpired.

Though i doubt your story as to why you were turned back... goodluck

With the cancelation of his visa, he is no longer qualified to use dropbox.

My school only requires I pay my fees after my visa is approved, but before arriving at the school. I have only previously paid for the application. Don't know why you say it makes no sense.

What makes no sense to me is waiting till last minute to rush everything without even having seen the person who has promised to sponsor me face to face. It's only respectful I humbly see her than just make demands from a distance.

In case you're yet to travel it's safer to get your sister (or whoever is sponsoring you) to pay at least a substantial amount as deposit before your arrival, so as to demonstrate her financial ability to sponsor you. Let me be frank and hard, if I were you I won't go if she refuses to pay some money as deposit to your school else you'll arrive and another story would start. I can bet on this. Foreign students' tuition is not a joke!

However, if you're already in US kindly update the house if not done already.

Remain blessed.
