As it is, your passport has six months validity and if you are only spending two weeks, that is good enough. However, if I were you, I would go renew the passport. It shouldn't take more than a day or two shopapa1: |

shopapa1:Since this will be your first time traveling to U.S why not renew the passport just to avoid story. |

Good day everyone. Thanks for this enlightening thread. I have a slight challenge, my company is re-branding: hence a change of name has occurred. I have a different company name to the one i filled on my DS 160 form. Which name do I go with at the POE? |

my gratitude goes to seyewest especially and others nairaland members who have contributed to this thread. I landed in IAH yesterday. The CBP had a lot of jobs on their hands as people are too many. I can't even remember any other questions he asked. The stories here made me prepare well and God made my passing through a success. Thanks all. 5 Likes |

Thanks to everyone for your immense help and responses. We (spouse, kid and I) will be travelling to the U.S next month and it's our first visit to America. Our application stated Miami as destination but tickets are so expensive this summer that we decided to book a flight to New York and intend to get a domestic flight from JFK to Miami the following morning. We have booked a night stay at a hotel close to JFK and another 14 nights stay at the Miami hotel. I am a bit worried now because we have a contact in New York (also stated in our application) and it may sound like we are changing our destination because we have someone in New York to accommodate us. The domestic flights seen online are costly and we hope to get cheaper options when we go to the local airport the following day. Is there something we should be worried about? Thanks in anticipation |

shopapa1: Ordinarily, I don't think it should be a problem based on the links below. But if you can renew before then, why not just do it. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/572/kw/passport%20validity%20to%20enter%20USA/session/L3RpbWUvMTQwMjY2NjQ2NC9zaWQvVnU3Vi1JV2w%3D/suggested/1/p/0/c/0 https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Six%20Month%20Club%20Update_0.pdf 1 Like |

valeria: As long as your story stacks up, you should be fine. The bolded is what i dont get and it might backfire on you. I highly suggest you buy your domestic tickets before you leave Nigeria. That way, even if the POE officer doubts your story, your domestic tickets would bail you out. Hope you understand what i am trying to say. |

The earlier you book, the cheaper the flights bro. And NY to Miami is quite a distance. My advice to you would have been to book your flight to DC or Atlanta instead, then rent a car and drive to Miami. That would save you a ton of cash and also give your family a chance to take in the scenery. You can even spend the night at hotels along the way if you like valeria: 1 Like 1 Share |

If you need to, just go to the airport ad go to their office there. As long as your layover is over eight hours, you are entitled to accommodation Or you can ask when you get there for your check in iCool: |

iCool:call or write Qatar directly in Doha... Or skype them... they will be the one to make it happen not the Nigerian office on phone except you go to the office in person. |

valeria: I understand things are very expensive now and it's normal for you to want to save cost but in doing so you have to be careful about it. You should be able to get and confirm your ticket from New York to Miami before leaving Nigeria because it's very very important not only for trust issue but also for you to have a smooth and memorable holiday, stress is not a good thing. If you can provide me with the date you want to travel to Florida I will try to help you with cheap flights to Florida from New york. |

Jovieeee: This question raises lots of red flags! Anyone that can afford to pay a traveler for helping to carry luggage should be able to pay for courier service, at least NIPOST courier service. Equally, just saying going to US is so vague, the book would still be posted in US anyway. Accepting to carry anything from a stranger is the easiest way a traveler can land himself in a foreign country's jail. 7 Likes |

Zeng: In case you're yet to travel it's safer to get your sister (or whoever is sponsoring you) to pay at least a substantial amount as deposit before your arrival, so as to demonstrate her financial ability to sponsor you. Let me be frank and hard, if I were you I won't go if she refuses to pay some money as deposit to your school else you'll arrive and another story would start. I can bet on this. Foreign students' tuition is not a joke! However, if you're already in US kindly update the house if not done already. Remain blessed. 1 Like |
