There is still a lot more that can be said about Chief Adegunwa. wink A few publications have carried stories about him. In the 90s, he was popularly known as Fototek, because of his investments in photography, and photographic equipment.

His massive head office at Adebola house in the Opebi area of Ikeja, Lagos was a beehive of activities. cheesy It had one of the best photo studios in Lagos. But when smartphones and inkjet printers were launched in the Nigerian market, the demand for photographic materials dwindled, and he had to move into other lines of business. cool He celebrated his 70th birthday last year, and many people had kind words to say about him.

One thing I've noticed about Yoruba business people is that they're very very proud of their Yorubaness. They typically use Yoruba names.

Our culture is lovable. Imagine how much we'd make from tourism and tourism businesses.

Yorubaland, for the love of Orishas, wake up. Una too intelligent for Nigeria.

Nigerian Designer Decorates White House For Christmas

Nigerian-born, London-based designer Duro Olowu posed with models at the Duro Olowu Fall 2011 presentation during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Milk Studios in New York City.

With Christmas just weeks away, U.S. first lady Michelle Obama has enlisted Nigerian-born fashion designer Duro Olowu and other creative masterminds to decorate the White House for the holidays. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, the already-elegant features of the Vermeil room were used as “a backdrop for a magical and surrealistic festive atmosphere,” Olowu said.

"My idea [was] to create a beautiful feast for the eyes reminiscent of a warm and joyful season filled with international treasures and signature fabrics," Olowu told Elle magazine Dec. 2.

This year’s holiday theme at the White House is “A Timeless Tradition,” which inspired Olowu’s unique designs in the Vermeil room. To transform the space, which is sometimes used as a ladies’ sitting room during formal events, Olowu brought in two 8-foot Christmas trees, which he draped in stunning ribbons, ornate appliqué and encrusted ornaments. The London-based designer also created custom teddy bears using vintage African fabrics.

I just found this now :

Meet Omolabake Adenle -a Nigerian- she built a software that can speak and understand african languages.

Proud of you Girl!

~Trends of Nigeria

The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) recently announced the top 10 nominees who will be contending for the '2017 Innovation Prize for Africa', in Accra on July 18.

Innovators from nine African countries were shortlisted – one from DRC, Egypt, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, SA, Uganda and Zimbabwe; and two from Nigeria – and one of the most impressive minds on the list has to be Omolabake Adenle for her voice recognition and speech synthesis software for African languages.

Photo: Abake )
(Photo: Omolabake Adenle)
Founded under her startup, AJA.LA Studios, Adenle's software can understand and digitize African languages; and synthesize speech from African languages presented as digitized text – just imagine Siri speaking and reading Yoruba.

Digitizing African languages like this will allow Africans to interact with a wide range of devices and third-party software applications in their local languages.

While voice recognition and speech synthesis software have been developed for various Western and Asian languages, there has been very limited commercial application or academic research for African languages.

This innovation will open up opportunities for Africans with low literacy levels – or those that simply don't speak English – to also enjoy the benefits of the digital revolution.

When Engr. (Chief) Toyin Adeyinka set up Sparklight Property Development Company in Lagos several years ago, he never guessed that his sojourn in the real estate market would be so fruitful. cheesy From property rental, his firm moved into property development and today, they have about 3 different estates spread across Lagos and Ogun state. These estates include Sparklight Grace Court Estate, Ikota, Lekki, Lagos; Rockview Estate, Obasanjo Hill Top, Abeokuta and Gateway-Sparklight Estate Phase II at Magboro, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In his quest to conquer bigger challenges, he set up Amide Clay Industries Limited, an indigenous clay brick factory which has highly qualified foreign, technical and administrative personnel. Its entire range of brick production is carried out using state-of-the-art machines. The company currently increased its production rate to 6 million bricks per annum. They have already concluded plans to start production of 20- 25 million bricks yearly. Last year, the company upgraded its' factory with automated equipment worth 4.5 billion naira at its' site in Olapeleke near Ewekoro, in Ogun State. undecided

Adeyinka is a seasoned Engineer whose wide experience spans over 30 years of experience. He has executed a number of highly successful projects worldwide, and has been actively involved in the profession of civil engineering and construction management since 1978. He is a member of the American Society of Engineers, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Fellow of the Institute of Structural Engineers and a certified member of the Council of Registered Engineers in Nigeria (COREN). Engr. Adeyinka is also the Chairman of Stallion Microfinance Bank, Labade Furniture Company Limited and Bade Farms.

“Before now the company was using the old fashioned permanent clamp kiln with a capacity of 20 million standard bricks per annum.

“We were using the clamp kiln for firing and open air-drying process. Now, we have moved to artificial drying, which is a major step that increased the capacity of our production from barely four million bricks per annum to 20 million bricks,” he said.

Adeyinka disclosed that the factory was sited within the Olapeleke environment because the required clay deposit is found in the locality. The company has a mining licence from the federal government.

On the demand for bricks, he said: “There is a huge demand for bricks in the country. We have been able to convince some arms of government adopt bricks in the construction of houses. As a structural engineer, there are some structures; we deliberately recommend that it should be light loaded due to the characteristics of bricks. Bricks are lighter and if you want to reduce the load on a particular structure, we advice the builder to adopt clay bricks. That is another source of demand."

“What we are doing with Amide is a silent revolution. We’re setting up a Nigeria Brick Industry Institute like in the United States, which membership will be opened to the public. It will be a forum to exchange ideas.” He added.

The director, Subsidiary and Production, Sparklight Group, Adeoye Adeyinka explained that there are three major steps in the production process. https://guardian.ng/property/amide-seeks-ban-on-clay-bricks-import-launches-n4-5b-factory/ ; https://www.today.ng/business/154242/firm-ramps-nigeria-brick-production-20m-yearly

Fikayo Ogundipe of ToLet: Thank you Muyiwa. Indeed, it is particularly difficult trying to raise money in Africa, especially if you are going for anything above a million dollars. And we are just a bunch of guys from Ife (Obafemi Awolowo University – OAU), with no international experience working for the likes of Google. Nor are we Stanford, MIT or Harvard alumni. These are real barriers people trying to raise money in these climes face.

Yoruba women - Beauty and Brain

Omotade Alalade is a fine blend of beauty, brains and compassion! After struggling with infertility, she decided to help other women struggling to conceive through the Beibei Haven Foundation. She helped shine the light on a subject that was hitherto a taboo in these parts. Omotade has helped raise millions of naira to fund couples who can’t afford fertility treatments. It didn’t come as a surprise to us therefore, when she was recognized on the BBC’s ‘100 Women’ list in 2016.

I've been eyeing the entertainment industry and our grip on it is pretty solid. We are going to show potopoto slaves how it's done, we Omoluabis back our claims with facts

Movie Industry

First of all let's clear the air about who started Nollywood and who it belongs to. I will keep saying it that Omoluabis are humble achievers who don't make noise about their success unlike some uncultured arrogant fools who always tune their volume knob to Max whenever they make little precedented achievements. Claiming that we pioneered Nollywood would be arrogant and that would put us at the same level with them. So, basically, I'm just going to debunk their ridiculous claims to owning Nollywood.

Ibos are always quick to cite Chika Okpala and his crew who made waves in the 1980s with their sitcom on NTA titled "The New Masquerade" as the pioneers of Nollywood, But can one really conclude that they're the pioneers because of the TV broadcast? Can anyone account for the roots of the modern Hollywood industry without mentioning the hardworking peripatetic actors who moved around in caravans when acting was still in it's latency in the old America?

Where was Chika Okpala when Hubert Ogunde was entertaining the country. Na who dash monkey banana? Hubert Ogunde was already performing in the 1940s and Chika Okpala was actually born in 1950 grin It's a disrespect to the man's honor to disregard theatres and folk operas as the initial platforms of Nollywood.

Hubert Ogunde's plays include The Garden Of Eden, Worse Than Crime, Black Forest, The Tiger's Empire, Strike and Hunger, Bread and Bullet, Yorùbá Ronu, Ija Ominira, Africa and God, Israel In Egypt, Nebuchadnezzar's Reign, My Darling Fatima, Portmanteau Woman, Beggar's Love, Princess Jaja, Ajani Ogun, Aiye and many more . Hubert Ogunde wasn't the only Yorùbá man in the scene as his contemporaries include the likes of A. B David, P. A Dawodu, Layeni and G. T Onimole.

Also, let's not forget that Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) came into action during the 1960s and enabled Ogunde an avenue to reach his audience without traveling. He produced his plays : Ayanmo and Mama Eko for the television audience. How is it now possible to compare Ogunde whose plays were broadcasted on TV in the 1960s to one Chika Okpala who came later in the 1980s?

Notable Yorùbá directors back then include G. B Kuyinu, Ola Balogun, Duro Ladipo and so on. Ogunde is also to be credited for actresses being paid in the industry. He brought professionalism into the practice and enabled women become professionals in light of their own right. Notable actresses back then include Beatrice Oyede, Abike Taiwo, Idowu Phillips (Popularly known as Mama Rainbow) and so on.

At this point, I hope I've been able to clarify who the real pioneers of Nollywood are. Fast forward to 2017, we still have potopoto slaves claiming they actually "own" Nollywood. Let's go through the list of highest-grossing Nigerian films

1. The Wedding Party - 453 million naira - Produced by Mosunmola Abudu and Directed by Kemi Adetiba

2. A Trip To Jamaica - 178.5 million naira - Produced by Ayo Makun

3. 30 Days In Atlanta - 137.2 million naira - Produced by Ayo Makun

4. Fifty - 94 million naira - Produced by Mosunmola Abudu (EbonyLife TV) and Directed by Biyi Bandele

5. Half Of A Yellow Sun - 60 million naira - Directed by Biyi Bandele

6. October 1 - 60 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan

7. The CEO - 60 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan

8. 93 Days -50.5 million naira - Produced by Bolanle Austin Peters

9. The Return Of Jenifa - 35 million naira - Produced by Funke Akindele and Directed by Muhydeen S. Ayinde

10. The Figurine - 30 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan

11. Weekend Getaway - 22.8 million naira - Directed by Desmond Oluwashola Elliot

12. Phone Swap - 20.7 million - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan

13. The Visit - 14 million naira - Directed by Olufunke Fafoyin

14. Dazzling Mirage - 13 million naira - Produced and Directed by Tunde Kelani

15. Maami - 11.9 million naira - Produced and Directed by Tunde Kelani

16. In The Cupboard - 10.5 million naira - Produced and Directed by Desmond Oluwashola Elliot

17. Married But Living Single - 9.9 million naira - Directed by Tunde Olaoye

18. Out Of Luck - 9 million naira - Directed by Niki Akinmolayan

19.Gone Too Far - 8.5 million naira - A film by Bola Agbaje

20. Irapada - 5 million naira - Produced and Directed by Kunle Afolayan

Note : The domestic gross of the movies above were produced by wikipedia.org, at no point in the post did I attempt to tamper with the records nor round any number up. Also, it's important to understand that the figures above were not adjusted by inflation. Every domestic gross stated above is the same as the number value which gives a glib and superficial analysis. For example, Kunle Afolayan's Irapada which generated 5 million naira in 2006 would have generated folds if it were to be released in 2017.

We don't need to make noise with these people, they're nerdy white boys trying to get into a dick-measuring contest with a Mandingo grin

Omoluabi ju won lo cheesy
