Abuja embassy was never STRICT, in fact , most visa success transcripts were from Abuja back in the days.. I can remember people say "never go to Lagos embassy" this and that .. that they don't approve visas.. now it's Abuja cry
I wonder what went wrong ..

This is why we usually tell people to go to the embassy closer to them. Abuja or Lagos, success in a visa interview is always 1/2.

are you trying to insult me or what? do you think i have your time to argue with you?

gaviria:

Please if you don't have something better to say, let people that want to say it talk. Because cheap flight is illegal or the plane dey crash or it affects POE decision? Not everyone can afford to fly Lufthansa or British Airways. And you're not in Nigeria you don't know how to economy is, or maybe you do and you're just trolling.

I'm a student from the US on research internship here in Lagos, Nigeria under a tourist visa (was I was specifically instructed to apply for) with intentions to be here for a total of 8 weeks. When applying for the visa my official letter of invitation and flight itinerary specifically state that i will be in the country for 8 weeks (2 months), yet when i arrived through customs at the airport in Lagos the office gave me a stamp that only permitted me to stay for 1 month. I tried to bring this issue to his attention and he told me that i would have to return to the to receive another stamp at an undisclosed price. Naturally i thought that it was a scam that I have been warned about prior to traveling. I brought this issue to a Nigerian man whose literal job is to take care of me and the students i traveled with and any legal issues that may arise for us. He said that he knew a guy who would be able to get a stamp for us for 35,000N (100 US dollars). This is the same amount that a fellow student is paying to extend his stay/visa here and I have no need to extend anything at all. I also have informed my professors and coworkers (at the university I am working at) about the situation and they all attempted to strongly persuade me not to pay any money as there was something very fishy going on. They are in the works of contacting persons they know at the immigration services in order to find the solution to my problem, it has been awhile and I haven't gotten a definite response. I am in assuming that receiving another 1 month stamp should be costing me money and if so how much should the action actually cost? Why didn't they allow me to be authorized to stay the entire 2 months like I asked?

It's very sad. I hate it when people hear bad things about Nigeria from their country only to come here and experience the same thing. When I talk to white people here in Nigeria, I ask them how their initial ideas about Nigeria compare to the experience they now have being on ground and I am always thrilled when the response is positive. Believe me or not, I asked this same question to the Vo that interviewed me for visa.

The man who is supposed to take care of you should man up to the Nigerian Immigration Services and do his job. If he does not, you can look up the Immigration address in Lagos online and visit them yourself. You never know you can meet a staff there that could solve the problem. Again, consider visiting your country's embassy (if they are here in Nigeria). I say this because embassies have strong relationship with Immigration Services (for passport verification and stuff) and you might get help there.

I am hoping that this will be solved and you will have a good positive experience here that you will take home with you.

best,

In Nigeria back then you can get a Nigerian passport through an agent. It was recorgnise and standard process . You used a wrong example. It was very much allowed. The use of agent or proxys was made redundant when biometric was introduced

Sure while legally it might have been allowed , morally what she or he did was wrong ...
Abeg, stop explaining to this guy.. You already made your point. He is just prolonging issues..

Please consider talking to the US Consulate about your situation. One of the main reasons we have Consulates is to assist US Citizens in need overseas.

Hello all,

Please would it be possible to upload a photo again after completing the DS160 form? It kept refusing the photo I uploaded. When I submitted the form, I was prompted that I could bring a 5cm by 5cm photograph to the embassy but someone just told me that I would not be permitted to enter if I did not upload on the website.

Once the form is submitted, it cannot be accessed anymore. The website say this and I guess I have heard a VO say it here on Nairaland. But hey, if the website allowed you to submit without uploading a photo, then that should be permissible. It will take a few lines of code on the website to make photo upload compulsory which the embassy could easily implement if they wanted photo upload to be compulsory.

If still in doubt, you can shot the embassy a quick email. People can misinform.

Yea, the more the lines in a family plan the less you pay. It's good that their prices are now taxes and fees included, and all unlimited unlike before when they will deceive you and add hidden charges. However, they're still not the best option for a student who is not financially buoyant.

What if there are more approvals but unfortunately most of those denied there are on this thread and thereby we think Abuja is extremely tough

You may be right. However, I feel Nairaland is a fair forum to carry out random sampling selection and more importantly, hypothesis testing.

So, if most people from a particular location get the same result from the same exercise, it is not out of order to form an opinion based on this trend.

Bro ,I was denied three times ( two in Lagos and one in Abuja) before my Visa was approved the fourth time (Lagos ) ..The fourth time was different because i strongly Believed more in God and in myself .Like someone said to me ,don't make it seem if your visa is not approved it is the end of the world..Be calm. you need fasting and prayer .Change your thinking and picture victory in your thoughts...Turn down Negative vibes ...Refire again God of possibilities will make it happen ..If you don't believe in yourself no one will ...Never Give Up

If you are using a modem or hotspot, go to a cyber cafe and use their network cable. That was what worked for me. I think it is a variable IP/fixed IP issue. If you are already using a network cable, then try different browsers. That was what worked for some others.

Well not to bad mouth my precious country....but Nigeria is not an organise society and there is a lot of extortion going on sadly ..although there still are a lot of good and trust worthy Nigerians

As for why you were not given the 2 months initally... sure in order to make you pay twice. Is that right nope but it does happen in this side of the world. We have a missing president and we are a developing nation so please bear with us cheesy . I get headache after a week in naija . For answers to your questions, someone in your team needs to liaison with nigerian immigration services. That the best source to respond
Your first paragraph is nothing to smile at. Condemning your country before a foreigner. This is very bad! No wonder these guys have disregard for folks out there.

Issuing a one month visa is okay. The Nigerian Immigration has absolute right to do that. It's our country. Visa issuance is not a right but a privilege.

Normally, the Nigerian Immigration issues one month then before the one month expires you renew it. That is how it works here.

So, the dude has to wait for about one week to expiration or ten days to renew his tourist visa.
