That is what we have been saying for years. The state of emergency concerning power should have permitted all comers to generate, transmitt and distribute. It is when you have capacity that you regulate. By putting the cart before the horse in an emergency like this you create cartels who prey on folks because demand far outstrips supply. Same with petroleum, modular refineries till you have capacity then regulate.

The only downside to this is the mention of gas which quite frankly irritates me. Lagos has no gas and except if it can import sufficient quantities to keep the plants running we are in for another white elephant. Lagos is a coastal city thus surrounded by immense green potential. It can exploit these as a longer term solution for complete energy independence.

Please write a credible well researched article and publish it. Also find a way to get it to the governor's attention. Good.

Honestly I respect these people from SW see the way these guys are systematically developing their ends like play like joke breaking their region out of Fed Govt claws bit by bit like a joke they are moving on. These guys are very smart I swear just watch the way things are moving and don't be myopic minded in seen what I'm saying. Three days ago ex president said he will make sure Lagos will be among the largest and best economic city some guys came here abusing him but kindly have a deep look and you will see these people are heading somewhere this is what intellectuals refers to as people of wisdom not noise makers who could not sit and draw a good plan, get it executed and pull the string on what they belief in.

These are what I was expecting from my people but rather one fool came with arrogant and abusive agitation with no grass root foundaton or developmental plans.

Did Lagos receive any special money from Fed Govt? Hell No but today according to statistics almost over the half of tax and vat that goes to Fed Govt is from Lagos and yet you are calling SW slaves or lazy or whatever soon we shall know who is a slave or Lazy. God gave them everything their Land in SW is good for all kinds of Agriculture, they have sea around them, they have bitumen in their soil, they have oil in their soil, they got education in their land, civilization on their side the list is endless I jealous them I must confess but not hatred jealous I just admire them.

These are the things we should be hearing about developments and not governor eating pomo and talking nonsense and taking pictures sitting on okada.the reason why most Nigerians think what they get is ok Is cos of lack of exposure.people should travel and see the outside world.

If only they will yield to that request. A lot of bottleneck in the power sector that you won't even understand how policy makers think at times in this country. Lagos state during BRF time had wanted to distribute its excess power to homes around where government establishments are using state government generated power supply, this same power authority at the centre refused. They claimed that the facilities through which they(Lagos) will distribute the power belong to the DISCOs. I even heard something like they will collect their customers. And I asked, which facilities; which customers? Customers you always put in darkness? Customers you can't even give prepaid metres? Let 1 transformer or pole break down in your area, see what will happen. It is either the community will contribute to fix or replace or you stay in darkness for months.
I just hope BRF will use his office as the Minister of Power and see this request through cos we don tire for this so called DISCOs and GENCOs.

Tinubu tried and he was frustrated by some regulations which stipulated that all power generated must go to the national grid. Incidentally, Obasanjo was the president at the time.

Federal Government should encourage other states to build their plants too. It's better than this idea of national grid except we have enough.

Lagos always progressive. Anyway I don't get The Federal Government obsession with strangling states in power sector. The best thing about this policy is its private sector driven. Hope other states that can should follow suit. There are plenty Of ND states like Akwa Ibom supplies and cash to power themselves.

1. The power sector is already private driven. Both the GENCOs and DISCOs are private except for the transmission assets.

2. The Federal government's role is largely regulatory. It creates the predictable legal framework which would allow more private investors to pour into the sector.

3. State govt can create private SPVs and be involved with the power industry nothing stops them.

Power generation is not really the problem although sourcing gas is a problem. There are hundreds of investors willing to dive into the power sector. The major disaster is distribution. The transmission lines are expensive and decaying. Someone has to fix them.
