You can't deal with Nigerian bank if you don't have Some little madness in you.
if you form posh,They will alwaus cheat you. Once you are right and sure of the transaction, just create a scene. It works like magic, talking from experience.

They know you're telling the truth but they wouldn't want to admit to the error from their end. God save us from Nigerian banks.

You are absolutely correct. Several years ago, my brother went to bank and was paid N6,000 over the counter. He came back into d house beaming with happiness on the twelve (mint) notes of N500 bills he was paid with. I took a closer look at the notes and said bro, these are fake notes. At first he was like, how cud dat be possible, at a cashier's desk!! I told him I'm surprised too, but dat unfortunately is the fact here. I educated him on the notes in his hand and advised him to immediately rush back to the bank and raise hell on the cashier. He did so, and summary, the cashier changed the notes in a manner that suggested she knew what she did.

Goodday Nairalanders,
I have heard tales of customers being paid fake notes by ATMs but never believed it will someday happen to me.
To cut the story short, I travelled to Abuja for an Interview some days back which ended on tuesday.
Last night at 8:05pm, I went to Zenith bank's 3rd ATM at Dusten Alhaji to withdraw the last 1,000naira in my GTb account (Last four digits of my card 4713) only for me to notice this morning that the money was fake. I went back to the bank to report not quite long and was told by one modupe who obviously was incharge of cash that there was no way the Atm would pay me a fake currency(At a point she was rude to me).
She later directed me to their H.O.P who also stood his ground that there is nothing they can do and that I have to bear the loss.
Pls nairalanders, how do I get my money back because I am very convinced that the machine gave me the fake note as I do not have any cash on me before the withdrawal and after the withdrawal, I only had the same 1,000 naira on me.
I didn't buy anything that would make me think the money was swapped.
Below are the images of the fake currency

This actually happened to me in UBA Bank last year.

OP you gork big time. You should have taken the fake currency note to the nearest police station and make your complain, the police will follow you to the ATM and locate the loader. Those who loaded it would pay you big time to cover up their ass. I have witness it before

Itz a pity. Theres absolutely nothing you can do.
Next time , be very observant when collecting money from the Atm and make sure you have witness there to support your claim
How on earth can one be observant while ATM is dispensing the cash?So if you observed the fake note you'll forced it into the ATM dispensing machine or what?

My brother same thing happened to me at Zenith bank ezenei branch asaba..i used my gtb card and was given a fake 1k note among other notes..finally got to report and make a written statement to the HOP..till now no news..the fake note is still with me.. So I think the atm handlers are in the know or should know how fake notes make their way into arms..and the bank should bear the cost..how can they seek witness when the atm has cameras and its even a person at a time..

We have some undesirable elements working in the banks. It has happened to me once at the Diamond Bank ATM point in ljebu Ode. I boldly returned it to the bank. After scrutinizing their records, it was taken from me.

My dear
Organised crime full this country
And people are making billions from it.
If he sends out 50 1k fake notes to 50 bank branches in Lagos per day.
Atleast 1/2 will come back with real notes, because the bank believed their story and wouldn't want to spoil their image. They take the fake and give you a real one.
That's 25k in one day.
The cycle continues.
End of the month, he settles his boys
They keep rotating the deal.

The banks have seen enough of this crime. That's why they hardly listen when you complain.
They rather invest in sorting notes properly before loading. If the complain because too much then it's a staff thing. Someone is exchanging the notes.

Am just saying you shouldn't just declare something is true by hearsay. It could be true. It could be false.
I have seen somebody that wakes up everyday, going round the banks with this same ATM story until he met his final stop.

You think the banks won't catch up on the prank before getting to 20 branches? Those criminals won't want to risk exposing themselves to cameras over a measly 1k

Una never see anything...I only pity those managing ATMs in Nigeria, those guys are badly exposed security wise and ill equipped. Most banks don't have sorting machines that can detect fake notes but rely on incandescent blue light which is ridiculous yet they accumulate ATMs without adequate working tools, profit is only what they are after without staff welfarism.Manual sorting is the order in Nigerian banks, pity a bloody casual staff asked to sort 40M manually, maximum an ATM can take is 8M of 1000 denominations, after sorting he/she will still confirm and ensure no shortage. Why won't there be issues of fake notes and mixing up of different cash denominations in same ATM cash cassettes resulting in short paying or over paying of ATM users. When it happens, banks are quick to deny any wrong doings and possibly sanctions staff managing those ATMs.
Abeg, make una expect more oh! The banking system today in Nigeria is like the old sugar cane plantation ran by the slave masters.
My brother, I put it to you that you were once a Cash Officer or Head of Cash Unit at Zenith, Firstbank or GTBank. Lol grin

This is quite serious.

I had a similar experience two days ago at their Port Harcourt branch around CFC junction. Mine was even paid to me over-the-counter.

Zenith Bank should really sit up.

My friend made an ATM withdrawal n he was paid but one of the notes was torn in half. He saw it immediately but he was travelling. He left with it and went back to the UBA branch in enugu and they collected it from him n gave him a new one without any form of resistance.

Nigeria banks are something else, that was how wema bank atm in Futa debited my account of 20k without paying, the staffs including the manager insisted that i got the money i nearly died of heart attack. one must be careful in dealing with nigeria banks seriously.
Wema ATM in Futa is a big joke. More like try your luck. I runaway from Wema ATM in general unless there's no option. One debited my ecobank account 20k and it took 2 months. Even when the money came in, no alert whatsoever. Was just checking account balance and saw it.

I've witnessed a woman at the park some years back, she paid the driver 2k and one of the #1000 notes was fake, the thing just be like normal paper. She claimed she got it from an ATM machine and even brought the remaining money that she withdrew and they were all genuine except that one that was fake
I think some of these bankers need to be checked I withdrawed money from a first Bank atm only to discovered one was fake I walked into the bank and warned them if i found that again it won't be funny

Op, you are right. It happened to me about 2 months ago, I discovered that N1,000 was fake inside the N20,000 I collected from First Bank ATM in Ojoo Ibadan. I was actually making payment for fuel at filling station and was suprised when the fuel attendant singled out the note and returned it to me instantly, and just right there I destroyed the note. I advice you lay your complain at the bank again and move on to forestall it happening to another person. I do not see the bank giving you your money back though.

My cousin also got fake 1000 note from one of the GTB cash machine in Lagos recently, it was when he gave the money to an uber driver and the uber driver was about using it to pay at the toll gate in Lekki that it was discovered as fake. The uber has to call my cousin on fone bicos the mopol at the toll gate was about to rough handled the uber driver. Anyway my cousin told the driver to bring the money back next time he will be picking him Bicos he is my cousin uber man. Pls fake 1000 naira note is rampant .

But what if the person loadibg is the one doing the fakery?

uncletech:

Bros sorry for the lost,

The reason why they said that is before ATM is load with cash they are always sorted and if the currency is fake it will be detected at that point before cash loading.

Op I have a very similar experience.
I withdrew money from a STANBIC IBTC ATM at Okelewo area in Abeokuta. I took 36k in the morning and went about spending the money to prosecute my farming activities throughout the day. After the day's work, I was left with 1k that I decided to use to buy fuel. It was at d fuel station that I was told that the note was fake.
I was seriously embarrassed.
I went back to lodge a complaint at the bank the following morning, but the officials there insisted that their machines couldn't pay fake notes.
I couldn't forget that my experience in a hurry.
But am very sure that I took that note from that machine because I didn't receive any other money from another source on that day. Up till now, I can still give comprehensive account of how I spent every penny from the 36k till I was left d last 1k note.
I think we can call attention of cbn to this ugly trend in banking.
