My friend moved to the US recently for his Masters. He ran out of cash, so someone told him about a job which entails clearing some grasses from a parcel of land. After about 3-4hrs, they were given $120 each. He converted that to naira and he was having about #43,800. He said his brain wan burst. This is a guy that earns #90,000 a month here in Nigeria oo. He said the joy he had passed the stress he went through. If he should do this work for just 5days, that is about $600 and that is about #219,000naira here in Nigeria.

True, but that's only if you make the money overseas and then spend it in Nigeria.

But the exchange rate is irrelevant if you make the money overseas and spend it overseas.

$120 for 4 hours of work, cutting grass? That's about $30 per hour?

First of all, that's a BS story. Absolutely not true. For such a job anywhere in the US, you can't make more than the minimum wage - less than $10/hr in most places. But even if we're to take this story as told, let me tell you what you don't know.

More than 40% of your salary goes into taxes (Fed tax, state tax, social security tax, medicare tax etc etc.), then you gotta consider all the bills: cable tv, phone, internet, cell phone, gas, electricity, water, rent/mortgage, car note, car registration, etc etc. After paying all those bills bro, by the end of the months, your bank account would be empty....regardless of how much you make.

Like I previously stated, problem with living overseas is that this money is accumulated here and then spent here. I wish there's a way I could be working in America while living in Nigeria: now, that's my dream life grin

With d hardship Nigerians face in Nigeria, when they travel abroad, most of them re industrious nd make a living, unless some who re from a wealthy background already that go there to mess up.europe, america?i was in south korea, when I got there,I got a factory work where I was given Apartment,I feed there too.then I was paid 1500 dollars monthly, then overtime,nd it increased to 1700,2000 dollars monthly, barbing?till now,i barb myself here in Nigeria with my clipper, unless I want to Behind up,i go barbing saloon.i avoided clubbbing, other rubbish expenses, there among us,some people built houses within two years.some re still there flexing their life with dia monthly salary without savings.for me I returned to Nigeria to do Business, combined business with my bro, didnt stay up to 2 years self nd I Saved.now me nd my younger bro, combine money he send d goods nd I sell here nd send bck the money for another goods.then we share d profit based on percentage of input.we re doing good @d moment,i can't state my achievement here.so the both. Sides have their advantage nd disadvantage.jobs dey south korea,i no dey naija, good roads, light, social amenities there is Better than here, nd they pay better.but things re expensive there too if U re nt wise or u Choose to live Large.cos there re so many ways to cut cost.i barb my colleagues hair.for small money then,i help them nd still make small money. Wey. I go. Use buy small things Wey I budget.so datz it.

Abeg. Minimum wage here is $38 minimum wage in Switzerland is $2000 for unskilled laborer that's around N700,000.

In Singapore, cleaners and security men earn $1000, that's almost 400,000 here. Why won't we think they're plucking money from trees

How much of that money do they give back to Landlords in rent? How much tax do they pay? How much is travel?

These are some of the things you people don't include in your 'calculations' of how much money people abroad actually have.

The average price for a one bedroom flat in Switzerland ( which is one of the most expensive places in Europe) is almost 1200 dollars and that is outside the city centre.

Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world so cost of living is also high.

At some point and when you've paid your dues, is it not virtually like this when compared to making money in Nigeria? You guys abroad like downplaying money making over there like this is 1992. Money no de, life is hard but you're changing cars and living in $2,500 apartment monthly.
Then show me an apartment that is cheaper there.
Yes, it is easier to gain employment over there than it is here but one thing we fail to consider is the cost of living over there

I know all those indices and also know it depends on the quality of life they choose to live, whether normal or luxury. One thing I know, no matter what a hard worker will always seem like that picture.

The person living in a 2500 dollars apartment has reasons - he doesn't want to live in a poor neighborhood where guns fly over your head at night, where robbery is rampant or maybe a place closer to work. It is a necessity.

Hmm, but it is happening. Whatever job is permitting such rent, will a similar job in Nigeria permit such? Do you see my point that while you're outside Nigeria the picture is true for some.
