What are commodities market

It is not well developed and structured in Nigeria. You can read more on it from investopedia.

It involves structured and regulated trading in commodities and agricultural products and futures.

Obasanjo started the frame work for a commodity exchange in Nigeria, but successive government could not take the frame work to the next level. Commodity trading as we have it now is not yet regulated and I can't invest in in.

Eg cow of 150k in Lagos could be 80k in the North. When you calculate the cost of transportation, feeding, taxes etc, a commodity investors could make about 10k return on his investment of 150k in less than 2 months.

You don't have to buy the cow, you invest in the contract or future of the commodity. The commodity exchange will also change the fortune of agriculture and commodities in Nigeria.

Hope we are not derailing this thread, but real investors are ready to learn and open minded to every legitimate investment opportunities.

Let's not jump into conclusion so early, we need more info on this eurobond tin. Information is gradually filtering in and more would come.

I have a dorm account and no banker has stopped me from collecting hard currency. Even if it's scarce ,they would plead with u and give u a date to come collect and this only happened when dollar was pursuing N525 earlier in the year. Then it was really scarce. Dont u know u can sue them for withholding ur funds.

I think the risk involved still has to do with dollar fluctuations. If Nigeria gets it right by truly encouraging local content then the Naira can truly appreciate , making it risky to buy hard currency. But govt would say one thing and the opposite would be the order of the day.

Investment is about weighing our options. So let's get all the angles to this.

Happy independa guys.
Pls, what bank do you have a Dom account with?

Pls house I need your advice on this
I have #300k with Stanbic MMF which gives me #149-#150 per day. My questions are
-should I continue with the MMF or
-redeem it and put it in Treasury bill since I don't need it in the next 6months. Thanks

How did you open Stanbic MMF account? Does it requires opening a deposit account first?

I Invest primarily for cash flow, capital appreciation is secondary.
I Invest for dividends, rental income, interest and profit sharing.

I won't advice starters to invest in real estate because of the quantum of fund needed to invest in it in Nigeria.

But as your investment portfolios start growing in leaps and bounds it is very to diversify into real estate to preserve capital against inflation. Land bought for 100k @ Ajah in 2000, now sell for between 10m and 15m.

Search for my alternate nairaland monicker ie "manie". to read more about me.

Thank you.

Baba landlord, you don come again with this your 'x bought for y amount z years ago is now .......'. What of those not born then?. grin

Funny guy. It appears you love cornflakes, I hope you also invested in the cornflakes company ie Nestle in 1980.

You should be a Naira billionaire, if you did.

Treasury Bills crowded out private businesses from the debt market.

I think there will be a renewed interest in commercial papers, corporation bonds and states bonds.

How old was I then?. Btw, a bottle of coca cola was 10kobo then also. Did i invest in coca cola then?.

If Nigerian had invested in refineries when fuel was 60kobo, imagine how much the FG will be making now.

If somebody had stock piled USD when exchange rate of Naira to USD was N1 to 1 USD, the person would be a multi Billionaire by now.
cheesy grin

Guys in thinking short term (about 60days or so) which direction should i be looking to invest a fund that i don't quite need for now.
T-bilss vs MMF vs Fixed deposit (good rate)

Fixed Deposit: So far from my little research renmoney could do 20%p.a. on 10m, this will fetch me about 313k in 60days. I don't know if other institutions will beat that but that profit of 313k will form my minimum/base for comparison.

So my question to the experts in the house is: Can i do better than that with T-bills or MMF given the short tenure? If yes, how?

Note: I am definitely liquidating at the end of the 60-70days tenure to utilise the funds.I need to make a decision quickly and push the funds out.

Thanks a lot
