Hello VO, great stuff! Please can my Wife who has a doctor in USA and has been in touch for almost three weeks now apply for a medical visa to travel in the 2nd week of November? Her EDD is January 15th 2018, what are the chances of getting an appointment date for her visa interview on or before October the 31st? Meanwhile, does the VO or American Embassy pay attention to travel history since she has a virgin passport? Many thanks.

Hello Niv. How are you doing today? I trust you're having a great Sunday. When i was filling my DS-160, There was a Column to explain if you've ever been refused a visa/entry into the USA. I have been refused a b1/b2 category Visa on July 14, 2016. While i was explaining the reason i think i was denied, I forgot to write the Year it happened. I only wrote the Day/Month. I found out after i booked my appointment. I have a scheduled interview this month at the abuja consulate, Could this be an issue or the interviewer would know the exact time/year i was refused? I wouldn't want them to think i'm coming in for the second time in 1 year.

I'd be glad to hear back from you Sir/Ma.
Thanks

Hello LearnedPaul. A person can apply for a visa at any time. There is no "medical visa," per se. The standard B1/B2 visa is suitable for most business, tourism, and medical purposes. What's important is that your wife --or anyone seeking medical care in the US-- make their intention known at the Consulate/Embassy and also at the port of entry. The applicant should also be able to demonstrate their ability to pay the medical bills in full. Travel history is one of many factors we look at to determine ties and credibility. Plenty of people who have never traveled out of their home country have nonetheless qualified for a US visa.

Evening vo, please I have two questions (1) can someone who has been denied a visa in July 2017 reapply in December same year (2) can travelling alone be regarded as change in circumstance of previous denied family visa application.

Hi daddyfisayo2015. You may apply again at any time. You should self determine your ties and circumstances before applying again.

Hello cornerstoneny. It's clear from this post and others that you've made on other threads that your true intention is to relocate to another country. As such, your home ties are nonexistent. Save your money and do not apply for a non-immigrant visa to the United States.

Hello VO, Abuja NIV. My sister went for her visa interview this morning and was denied. This is very ridiculous considering the fact she works for an American Oil and Gas company and is scheduled for a training. The cost of the training and all expenses is being borne by the organisation. According to her the VO kept her for about 15 minutes and drifted from the core purpose of her visit which is her training and went into personal details asking if her siblings have travelled before and she answered in the affirmative. She also told them my elder sister has been to the states before. The VO checked and said oh so your sister had a baby in the US, she didnt say she was pregnant when she came for the interview and with that he denied her. This is unimaginable considering the fact that these are two different individuals. How do you make a judgment based on another person's issue. Please i need a response urgently. Her training is tied to her work promotion.

Hello Opeyemi007 -

Yes, we can see the exact date of any prior refusals, even if applicants don't note them on their DS-160.

Hello VO, i filled 2 DS 160 forms but missed the thank you page to create family/group application.
Already scheduled the joined interview appointment.
Is there any problem here as I didn't use the group option at the thank you page?
Thank you.

Dear Abuja/LagosNIV

Great job you are doing

I was refused a B1/B2 visa early this year

My interview was going fine until the VO went through my previous passport, it has 3 UK visa but I only used two and mistakenly answered thrice when she asked(I was nervous...lol)
The VO kept looking at the visas, using her hand to feel the page
The passport is a non e-passport I used as a teenager and young adult 8/9 years ago with my maiden name, I only took it along to prove my travel history when asked.

My company is sending me for a conference/networking event soon and I don't want this to be an issue
Do you suggest I go with an affidavit as I now use my husband's name in my new passport?
I also explained that as reason for refusal in my new application

Your response would be highly appreciated

Thanks in anticipation

Hello VO,
I was at the embassy this morning on an emergency appointment and was denied B1/B2 visa.
I was in the U.S for a year between 2010 and 2011 on training and also last year for 3 months for training and I am booked for another one at the end of the month.
All expenses are being borne by my company (which is an American company).
My monthly salary is in excess of #3 million naira.
The consular officer didn't say why I was denied.
Please can you give me a clue as to the likely problem so I can rectify before my next application?
This training is really important to my organisation as I would be out of currency.
Thanks for your reply

Hello VO, Pls we book appointment at the embassy and we were given September 13 for the interview. But on getting there, it was only my hubby that was confirmed for the interview. We were told to go and rebook after 3 working days. The issue now is that me and my kids are giving different dates for the interview.

Dear VO,
My mother is a US citizen. My dad is a green card holder. We plan to have my dad's 75th Birthday come January in the US. My dad wishes that my nieces ( from my late brother)age 7 and 10 will be present since their father is late. All other children and grandchildren will be present. Their mother will not be able to make it because of her work schedule.
My mother is considering coming home ( since she will be around in Nigeria between November and December) to apply for visiting visas for the kids and escort them to the interview as minors. She intends to take them and we return with them after the programme. My questions are:
1. Will my mum who is a citizen be allowed to accompany the minors for their visa interview?
2. If visa is granted, will I be allowed to exit the US with the kids on our return?
3. What will you advice generally on this case?
Thank you.

Hello marketgirl -

1 - Minors are allowed to have an adult escort, who is not required to be a parent, and we do sometimes have grandparents escort grandchildren.
2 - I can see no reason why a parent would not be allowed to exit the US with his or her children.
3 - We look very closely at cases in which a child is not applying with a parent, out of a concern for child trafficking.

Good day.

I need advice, I had my babies in the USA, in 2012 and 2013 respectively. I informed the embassy before I embarked on this journey and they acknowledged this by replying my mail. At the port of entry I informed the immi officer of my intentions and he asked for my app letter from the hospital of which I did and he let me in. 2012 I had my baby paid all my bills self pay (cash).

In 2013 went through the same process only this time the officer at the point of entry requested for my receipt from 2012 and I presented it to him and he wished me luck. After my delivery I made payments as the bills came bit by bit. While in the hospital a Medicaid worker came in and tried to encourage us to get one and my husband n I refused and said we were self paying. I still remembered her name because she came back again confused on why we don't want it. Anyway, we paid the bills until they stopped coming. Got all my statements of payment.

Then this happened, in 2016 did a Dropbox n was called in for interview I gathered all my documents and we went for the interview it was going fine until she asked how much I paid to have my babies which I guessed and told her and she asked my receipt and I gave her and she said this was not what she wanted huh? She wanted a paid in full receipt and that I didn't understand because what I gave her showed all the break down including what we paid in cash and card. She then asked for their birth certificate and asked why we used a Usa address on it? And I told her that they wanted the address it would be sent to. And she said no we shud av put our Nigerian address and that it seems we used the govt to get benefit on that address . And we were denied and asked to show proof of ties and bring additional docs when reapplying. We forgot abt going to the USA and went to Spain instead for the break. Now I we want to go for the visa again because I started a phd program online and I am required to visit the campus ones a year. So I called the first hospital I had my baby in and requested for a full statement and receipt of my paid in full whatever and they did it. Then I called the second hospital which is a government hospital and requested the same thing and the lady said ok but she sounded unsure of what I was requesting for she said Medicaid paid and she can't write a receipt that I paid. I screamed in shock and told her I paid not Medicaid. And she was answering funny so I called the Medicaid dept in the hospital and they checked and told me that they saw that I declined the Medicaid but the lady who was working there did not work on that before she left them 2 days after I declined the services ( I mentioned her name and they said correct her name was on the system) so Medicaid paid and I also paid. The lady said since Medicaid has paid the hospital is owing me a refund because she can see on her system that I paid too. I don't want the refund or the wahala. I want to pay my bills and get my visa.

1. Why did the consular refuse my statement of payment
2. Was it wrong to put a us address on the birth certificate. Do I need to do another one.
3. Do I inform the consulate of this latest development
4. How do I pay Medicaid back cos I don't want a refund. I asked the Medicaid and she was confused on why I want to pay back. I will still call her back I press further because I am not entitled to Medicaid.

Thank you

Good day All,

We (my wife and I)applied for US visa drop box for the second time but was asked to schedule an appointment. It's kinda confusing to me but will go retrieve my passport and schedule it. I just want to know if there is any specific reason why I was asked to come for interview and my wife wasn't as we applied as a family.?
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by Nobody: 3:54pm On Oct 05, 2017
Hello Autonomous85 -

There are many reasons we call people in for interviews after they have applied for the Interview Waiver Program (Dropbox). Sometimes there are things on the application that we need to ask clarifying questions about. Sometimes we may have information indicating that the applicant has misused a visa in the past. Sometimes we call people in at random to try to be sure that people aren't abusing the Dropbox program.

Hello Unik222. I can empathize with your situation. Healthcare in the US can be quite expensive and confusing, for tourists and residents alike.

As we have said before, it is not a valid procedure to inform the Embassy/Consulate about medical intent after the interview. You can e-mail the Embassy/Consulate, and in some cases, you will get a form letter in response, but nothing is changed in your file as regards to your purpose of travel. What matters is what you present in your application and your face-to-face interviews at the Embassy/Consulate and the port of entry.

Some states have special, tax-funded healthcare programs for non-insured residents of the state. If you are a tourist in the US, you are necessarily not a resident of any US state. Hospitals and birth certificate authorities may take you on your honor if you declare local residency, but doing so may impact your credibility in the future as an applicant for a non-immigrant visa.

There are, unfortunately, some unscrupulous healthcare operators that may quote unusually low fees for medical care, only to send the balance of the bill to Medicaid. Consular officers have ample experience looking at medical statements and receipts, and we have our own experiences with the US medical system to draw upon. So we know approximately what a range of procedures cost. Prospective applicants for medical tourism should do ample research and be suspicious of quotes that are unusually low.

Unik222:

Good day and thank you for your response. What do you advice I do now.

Do I inform the consulate or embassy of my present situation?

What do I also do about the birth certificate? Do I apply for a correction

How do I go about paying Medicaid back because the hospital is saying they want to refund me my money. I don't want that.

Is there a way they can refund Medicaid with what they owe me

Thanks
