This one na mumu from Jubrin republic. Ode drew a straight line from their leg, what about their hands (you can enter offside through leg or hand). Look at the right hand, the striker stretches his hand more than our defender.

Boss look well now, initially i thought it was a genuine goal, after watching the replays it became clearer that it was indeed an OFFSIDE. try and watch the replay again Boss
Bros do not be deceived. That picture posted up there was made to make it look like it was an offside, look closely u will see the line is not even straight. Look I'm a Nigerian I'm happy we qualified, but that goal was not offside,. Check the picture below.

Mulenga was offside because his upper body was ahead of the 2nd to last Nigerian player in that picture.
The laws of the game penalize any player when any part of the body, which can be legally used to score a goal, is ahead of the 2nd to last player of the opposing team.

Bros that picture up there is a FRAUD made by the OP to make it look like the player was offside. Look again the line is not straight. And it wasn't echiejile that kept him on side, it was one of our cb. Check the picture below without the fraud line and tell me he was offside.

Do I blame the ref? NO. Linesman raised his flag. Do I blame the linesman? NO. Because it was a very close call. This is why pitches used for premier league etc have horizontal lines so linesmen can easily spot when a player is offside. Our own field does not have lines so more difficult for officials to spot. Do I think the match should be replayed? DEFINITELY NO. We have seen far worse referee decisions and this won't be the last.
So according to you, this particular picture is enough to claim Mulenga was onside? Without the line it is even more difficult to judge. But it definitely looks offside to me.

Look at the players body positioning with respect to Ekong. Even if they are in line, he already appears to be taking off which can cause some parts of his body to be ahead of the defender.

Zambia has no argument. Besides the call had already come long before he scored. Any play after the referees whistle is invalid.

It was not an offside, it was a clear goal, don't let sentiments ruin ur sense of judgement. But the it was a tight one, no way they are ever gonna get a replay of that match. It was a close one that could have gone either way. Only video assisted ref can solve this and since FIFA didn't make it compulsory then the game stands. We have seen worst decisions in European games and no replay was made.
You say it was a clear goal, yet in the same breath you say "it was a tight one"?
Even if you had doubts before, the picture posted above should have helped clear your doubts. The man was offside, the match officials got it right.

it was a wrong call,it was a clear goal, many of you guys need to understand how offside rule works,as a Nigerian i want us to win but that doesn't mean i should not be objective

if u look at the line carefully u would notice it was drawn diagonally from the Zambian player instead of appendicular in relation to the goal line the way it should, let's not just turn a blind eye because we are favoured, I remember some years back when one referee from Gabon jean Fidel diramba was always using offside to deal with Nigeria, most of us felt issa hayatou had a hand in it then n it was very painful. it could also happen to us at the world cup, remember Cameroon vs England at Italy 90?.
That is how the line should be drawn because the camera is placed at an angle from the Zambian player. If you slant the picture it will become more obvious

I never said Zambia had any argument, the game is done and dusted. But the goal should have stood as it wasn't an offside. Ekong (or is it balogun, difficult to know which is which from that distance) kept the player on side. If that happened to super eagles I'm sure u all will be here saying it was on side.

Thank u brother, at least one person here thinks out of the box. That red line is a FRAUD, it wasn't straight and was put there to make the player look offside.

It's not a theory, its a fact. The picture I posted shows clearly that ekong (or is it balogun) kept the player on side. Let's learn to think outside the box.

I watched the match, and also watched the the particular goal on replay. He is offside, the rule says any part of your player's body that he can use to score a goal....
In this case his knee
Its a close call, but the assistant ref got it right

On what basis are you saying the goal should have stood? Are you trying to say a player can ignore the referee's whistle and go ahead to score even if it was a wrong call and the goal will stand?

Ekong played closer to shehu, it's balogun that played close to echiejile. And for the record, you're judging from a picture that does not even have the right angle to decide if it's offside or not.

The man whose job it is to decide if it's offside has decided. CASE CLOSED.

If it happened to super eagleshuh We have had our own share of bad officiating in the past and didn't cry to FIFA. Mind you I don't consider this incident bad officiating, it was an offside. This Same Zambia were given a non existent penalty against Nigeria in afcon2013 group stage.

U getting me wrong bro. I didn't say the match should be replayed or the goal should stand. And for the record referee blew the whistle late when the player was already through on goal. But let's call a spade a spade, it was on side though a very close one.

And I'm not judging from mere pics, I've watched it on YouTube from multiple angles, he was never offside. But then this is football, sometimes some decisions go ur way, sometimes it doesn't go ur way and it will continue to be so until video assisted ref is fully adopted. Shebi mkhitaryan of man utd scored an offside scorpion kick goal last season and it stood and Mata scored a legitimate goal that was ruled out for offside. That is football. CASE CLOSED. But we got to call a spade a spade.

I'm calling a spade a spade, it was an offside, from my own view and refs anyway. I've watched several YouTube videos of the match and all of them have the same view which is same with the TV view when I was watching in real-time. Maybe you should post links to the videos of the different angles you saw. wink

Yea, yea, the referees too don't know the rules. In fact they don't know their job, they have no business going to a football field.

Below is a screenshot I took from YouTube and even the replay was paused to show he was inside.

Look at it critically. The goalscorer was behind echiejile and balogun (offside) but then look at shehu's position, he was on the same line with the Zambia striker but the one that actually kept him onside was ekong who was a few inches behind.

Stop talking like that. It's the linesman job to pick offside, never referees decision. So even if a goal was offside and linesman doesn't raise his flag then ref will count it as a goal. In this situation linesman made the blunder not the ref.

Offside is the hardest decision to make in football because those officials don't get to see the replay like we do so they are bound to make mistakes.

That's because u don't need any line to see that ekong kept him on side. Check the position of echiejile and balogun. Now check the position of shewu and ekong.

Haven't you ever seen a ref ignore the linesman flag? The onus lie on the referee to make a call whether the linesman raises his flag or not. And he can chose to ignore if he had a proper view of the situation.

Mind you, a linesman does not only pick offside. Fouls, corners, throw in etc.
