Uhmm..I was chatting with a friend and the conversation drifted off to marriage. He asked me if I could marry someone not of my faith and I said NO.
He thinks I'm an extremist because of my decision..LOL.

So, what's your take? Can you marry someone not of your faith and why?

Mature contributions only, please. smiley smiley

I believe it is the next best thing since sliced bread grin

The children get to learn from different religion
The children will have much exposure than most of their mates,
The family gets to observe different religious festivals grin

I think overall every one in that family will have a balanced perspective of live cheesy

Ofcourse, this is an over optimistic version, knowing op is a Muslim and I am a Christian tongue

You are so naive. Inter-religion marriages hardly ever work, especially in Nigeria. They only work in rare occasions and there is usually a compromise where one of the couples would have to convert.

Christian-Muslim marriages can never work. Stop reasoning like a child. The obstacles that would hobble the growth of the marriage are numerous; doctrinal, cultural, family differences, etc.

A Christian man shouldn't even bother going into a long term relationship with a Muslim woman. Such relationship can never lead to marriage. Her family will strongly oppose. The possibility of marriage between a Christian and a Muslim only occurs when it's a Muslim man going into a relationship with a Christian woman. And in most cases, the woman eventually converts to Islam.

You are right and wrong, it depends on the part of Nigeria you come from. If it is eastern Nigeria, then probably you have a point. If it the southwestern part of Nigeria you maybe wrong

Inter-religious marriages from the southwestern part of Nigerian work perfectly.

Fun fact ! Do you know majority of governors in southwestern Nigerian are Muslims and their wives are christains. A perfect example is the current governor of Oyo state ( isiaka Ajimobi)

The major reason such marriages are extremely successful in southwestern Nigerian is because "yoruba people " which constitutes majority in the region don't necessarily allow religion to divide them. The see any religion as a means to communicate with just "one God"

Thus, I think it can work. Of course, not all the time

Learnt this lesson the hard way. Personally, I don't see it as a big deal. I know the problems, but I've always seen life like a process that needs to be fully enjoyed. Fall in love. Eat a lot. Drink water and be happy. Unfortunately, we create inhibitions like religion, tribe and whatnot for ourselves.

I know I've not really gotten over her. As hard as I try too. Left to me alone, we'll be in Seychelles enjoying all the splendor of the beautiful islands. While enjoying sex on its beautiful beaches.

I'm a Christian, so naturally I'm drawn to my own. I might consider someone Jewish ( since it's the next closest thing to Christianity). Perhaps a Buddhist or even an atheist, but I'll NEVER marry a MUDSLIME. I always draw the line when it comes to that unwholesome lot.

Hmmm just read all ur post but let me say this, all revolves around true LOVE. If u love ur man or woman their is no problem but if not don't try it cause u guys will face a lots of intrusions in ur life but if u guys truly love one another NO shaking as both religion talk about love, am a Muslim n my wife is a Christian in Catholic church,we don't ague but talk on every issue n speak out our minds, hmmmm not all have d heart to do this OK, she understand my religion as I have thought her all she need to no as I also read both holy books n understand her religion also, just ask for grace. Ur perfect girl might not b in ur religion. May Allah guides all

I'm cool with it, funny enough I get along with Christian girls more...But often times, it's challenging because you would have to put her in awkward position of choosing between listening to her parents and following her heart.
