Rivers Angels head coach, Edwin Okon has said top-flights and neighbours, Bayelsa Queens are merely coming for sightseeing in Port Harcourt.

The Jewel of Rivers are hosts of the Restoration Girls in Wednesday’s Aiteo Cup semifinals second leg clash at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The Garden City landladies and Cup holders were held to 2-2 draw by the Yenagoa side in the acrimonious first leg clash at the Nembe City Stadium.

Okon said his side are poised to once again prove their overwhelming superiority over the visitors, Bayelsa Queens.


“It was actually in Yenagoa that we picked the Aiteo Cup final ticket at the expense of Bayelsa Queens.

“However, we are not relaxing but working very hard to ensure there is no mistake when both sides clash in the reverse fixture on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

“I think this year’s Aiteo Cup is over for Bayelsa Queens as they are merely coming to Port Harcourt for sightseeing.

“We will turn them back empty-handed as we are fielding same squad that held them at their backyard.

“I do not have any injury worry at the moment as the players are all good to go come on Wednesday.

“Bayelsa Queens fought us at their home and even tore the referee’s card we will not do anything uncivil we will receive them well, accord them due respect but will not discuss the three points with them.

“We are Cup holders our desire is to go ahead to defend the title successfully,” said the former Super Falcons coach to supersport.com.

NIGERIA FACE BURKINA FASO/GAMBIA IN 2018 AFRICA WOMEN'S CUP OF NATIONS QUALIFIER

The reigning African queens will confront winners of the two west African teams to qualify for next year's Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana

To qualify for the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations billed for Ghana, Nigeria women national team will defeat either Burkina Faso or Gambia in the second qualifying phase.

The Super Falcons along Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa, and Equatorial Guinea were drawn the bye in the first round fixed between February 24-26, 2018 and second leg billed for a week later.

After the first round matches, the first legs of the second round ties are slated between March 31 to April 2 with the second legs holding between from April 7-10, 2018.

Seven teams will progress from the qualifiers will join Ghana for the 13th edition of the tournament scheduled for November 17 to December 1, 2018.

The event will serve as the African qualifiers for the Fifa Women's World Cup with top three teams qualifying for France 2019.

2017 Women’s Aiteo Cup: Rivers Angels Thrash Bayelsa Queens To Reach Final

Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt have qualified for the final of the 2017 Women’s Aiteo Cup after thrashing Bayelsa Queens 4-0 in their Wednesday’s semi-finals second leg at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium Port Harcourt, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Port Harcourt side sealed a 6-2 aggregate win having earlier bagged 2-1 away win against Bayelsa Queens in the first leg.

Rafiat Sule missed an opportunity to shoot Rivers Angels into the lead In the 28th minute of the game when she failed to beat Bayelsa Queens’ goalkeeper Macleans Okogba in a one on one situation.

The home side however took the lead in the 50th minute when Amarachi Orjima won a penalty kick and Gladys Akpa converted it.

In the 56th minutes of the game, Ugo Njoku’s lofted crossed found Amarachi Orjima who headed the ball into the net to double their lead.

Rivers Angels won another penalty kick in the 73rd minute when Alice Ogbebe was brought down in the visitor’s box and Evelyn Nwabuoku scored to extended the lead to 3-0.

Orjima completed her brace in the 86th minute, nodding home Evelyn Nwabuoku’s cross.
Rivers Angels will play the winner between Ibom Angels and Abia Angels in the 2017 Women’s Aiteo Cup final.

I guess CAF realized such a lengthy ban could set football backwards in that country and CAF need more teams to stand up to Superfalcons.

Following their opening defeat against Delta Queens, the Jewel of Rivers gaffer attributes the south-south derby loss to their defensive errors

Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon has blamed defensive blunders for his side's Nigeria Women Premier League Super Four tournament 2-0 loss to Delta Queens on Monday.

The Port Harcourt based side bowed to Delta following strikes
from Amerat Adebisi and Rosemary Okezie in their opening match.

Despite the defeat, the former Super Falcons coach is confident they will bounce back in a replay of last final against Nasarawa Amazons on Tuesday.


"It was a bad day for us and we should have taken some of our chances in the match," Okon told Goal .

"The goals we conceded were from our defensive blunders we committed during the game. We could have done better to avoid conceding those goals if we really defended well.

"We have to move on, it is just our first game and we will work on those areas we need to correct our mistakes in our next game.

"We will surely come out stronger against Nasarawa Amazons. We still have a lot to fight for in the tournament. We can still defend our title."

According to information gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com , the Nigeria Football Federation are set to announce the appointment of former Houston Dash manager Randy Jordan Waldrum as the new Nigeria Women's National Team coach in the coming days.

During the interview for the vacant position, the Nigerian Federation Technical Committee had ten options on the table including two foreigners, and it was unanimously agreed that Waldrum should be Florence Omagbemi's successor because of his maturity and technical competence.

Three local coaches have been selected by the Federation to assist Randy Waldrum in carrying out his duties.

Edwin Okon has been appointed as the first assistant coach, Super Falcons record cap holder Maureen Mmadu is the second assistant coach, while the goalkeeper trainer is Auwal Bashar.

It was also recommended that Justin Madugu should manage the U17 Women's National Team, the Flamingoes, and he'll be assisted by Ajuma Peter Otache and Queen Akpan, while Taiwo Tundun is the goalkeeper trainer.

The 61-year-old Waldrum, who was a midfielder during his playing career, previously managed Pittsburg State University, University of Tulsa, University of Notre Dame and Trinidad and Tobago (women) teams.

Prolific Nigeria International Striker Scores Again For Brighton & Hove




Prolific Nigerian international striker Ini Umotong wrote her name on the score-sheet again as Brighton & Hove Albion began their FA WSL Continental Cup campaign with a 4-2 victory over Yeovil Town at Culver Road on Wednesday evening.

IHEZUO POWERS BIIK KAZYGURT INTO UEFA WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND OF 16

The former Falconets star scored as her side progressed to the last 16 on away goal advantage over Scott Booth's ladies on Thursday


Chinwendu Ihezuo's lone strike powered BIIK Kazygurt into the Uefa Women's Champions League round of 16 despite losing 4-1 to Glassgow City on Thursday.

Having held a 3-0 first leg lead, the forward's goal was all the visitors required to advance on away goals despite the Scottish outfit comeback win at Petershill Park.

The 20-year-old got her side the vital away goal in the 19th minute before her Kazakhstan side bowed to Abbi Grant's hat-trick and Noelle Murray's strike.

CHAMPIONS: Nasarawa Amazons Win NWPL Super 4 Title

Nasarawa Amazons have defeated Delta Queens 1-0 to emerge as the champions of the Nigerian Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4 which was staged at the Samuel Ogbemidia Stadium, Benin City.

Nasarawa Amazons’ Amarachi Okoronkwo scored the only goal of the game with a header in the 41st minute on Friday.

Delta Queens almost took the lead in the first half but Nasarawa Amazons’ Okoye Ebere’s timely header stopped Delta Queens’ Okezie Rosemary from scoring in the 17th minute.

Amazons goalkeeper Nwankwo Chioma then punched Joy Jegede’s freekick to safety in the 36th minute before saving a low shot from her in the 38th minute.

The Lafia girls had defeated Bayelsa Queens 1-0 in their opening match on Monday. They also defeated River Angels 2-1 on Tuesday and were held to 1-1 draw by Delta Queens on Thursday which saw both teams to the finals.

A 4-0 win over six-time finalists Bayelsa Queens in the second half of the second leg of their semi final fixture ensured Edwin Okon's ladies stand on the brink of claiming the title for the seventh time since 2010.

Rivers Angels are Aiteo Cup champs

Rivers Angels head coach Edwin Okon says the team's Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4 served as a tonic that helped the side to win the women's Aiteo Cup title.

The Jewel of Rivers defeated Ibom Angels 4-1 on penalties after the fulltime score stood at 1-1 in Wednesday’s Aiteo Cup final clash at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos to claim their Cup seventh title.

Forward Cynthia Aku gave the Garden City side the lead in the 49th minute while defender Glory Ogbonna evened scores for the Orange Ladies in the 53rd minute to end the hotly contested encounter one goal apiece.
Okon praised God for helping the Port Harcourt side win the Cup back to back.

“The poor NWPL Super 4 performance challenged us greatly as we were not expected to perform so poorly in the competition.

“After the NWPL Super 4 disappointment in Benin it looked like everything had ended for us.

“However, I charged the players to forget about the Super 4 disappointment and concentrate fully on the Aiteo Cup.

“That did the magic and we thank God for granting us our heart's desire.

“The joy of winning the Aiteo Cup is quite overwhelming and more rewarding is the personal award of the best coach of the championship to me.

“Ibom Angels are a good side coming this far to play in the final for the first time but I think the better side won on the day,” said the former Super Falcons coach to supersport.com.

Okon said his side will work very hard to reclaim the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) title in the upcoming league season.

“History has it that any year we missed any of the titles we come back the next season to win the double.

“We are going to fortify the team from the goalkeeping, defence, midfield to attack to ensure we come back as the winners in the coming season,” said Okon.
The Port Harcourt side pocketed the princely sum of Ten Million Naira (N10m) as well as the Aiteo Cup trophy while the runners-up, Ibom Angels, took home the sum of Five Million Naira (N5m).

NFF Celebrates Falcons Star Ordega At 23

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sent a birthday goodwill message to Super Falcons forward, Francisca Ordega, who turns 23 today.
The NFF sent the message on their verified Twitter handle on Thursday.

“Happy birthday Nigeria Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega. Shine on,” the NFF tweeted on their handle.


Ordega is currently playing on loan for Australian women’s league side Sydney FC from American side Washington Spirits.

Ordega represented Nigeria at the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

On graduating to the Super Falcons, she was part of the squad to the FIFA Women’s senior World Cup in 2011 and 2015.
She has won three Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in 2010, 2014 and 2016.

NFF Confirm : Ex-Houston Dash Boss Waldrum Named Super Falcons Coach



The Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed the appointment of former Houston Dash manager Randy Jordan Waldrum as the new Nigeria Women's National Team coach, as exclusively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com nine days ago.

The Texas native had been in search of a new employer after he parted company with National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), Houston Dash, in May 2017.

The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation held a meeting at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge on Wednesday, 18th October 2017 and one of the important issues discussed was the hiring of Waldrum.

''The Board approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee for the appointment of Mr. Randy Waldrum as Technical Adviser of the Super Falcons, and directed the Secretariat to immediately conclude negotiations with Mr. Waldrum,'' the NFF stated in a press release on Thursday.

The 61-year-old Waldrum, who was a midfielder during his playing career, previously managed Pittsburg State University, University of Tulsa, University of Notre Dame and Trinidad and Tobago (women) teams.

He coached Super Falcons defender Osinachi Ohale at Dash during the 2014 season.

Official – La-Liga Giants Atletico Madrid Announce Signing Of Nigeria International Striker




Spanish football giants Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of 24 year old Nigerian international forward Francis Ordega from US-based Washington Spirit.

The deal is a loan deal which will see the striker who is an integral part of the Nigerian women team spend from now till March at the club according to the club.

” For me it’s an honour. Atletico is a great club, internationally recognised, and I really want to start. I will make the fans feel proud of me”, Ordega said on the official website of her new team.

Ordega is however not eligible to represent the club in their next game against FC Barcelona in the Spanish Women Championship.

Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega has described her move to Atletico Madrid Women’s team as an honour.
Ordega, 24, joined the Spanish side from American outfit Washington Spirits and will be there till March 2018 when the new season in the United SStates of America will begin.
Commenting on her move to Atletico Madrid, Ordega said she cannot wait to start playing for them.

“For me it’s an honor and I’m very happy to be here. Atletico Madrid is a great club, internationally recognized, and I really want to start,” she told Atletico’s official website.

Describing her qualities as a footballer, Ordega went on to state that she will win the fans over.

“I am a strong player, physically, athletic and very fast and I will make the fans feel proud of me.”

Nigeria Make Move To Cap American-Born Ajax Amsterdam Striker



The Nigeria Football Federation have set the ball rolling in their bid to cap Ajax Amsterdam star Toni Payne, ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The Birmingham native earlier turned out for United States U15, U17, U20 and U23 National Teams but is willing to switch allegiance to Nigeria and new Super Falcons manager Randy Waldrum has opened a line of communication with the talented striker.

''Randy Waldrum has been in touch with Toni, she is in his plans for the new Falcons team he is building,'' a source close to the player told scorenigeria.com.ng.

The 22-year-old represented the Americans at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Azerbaijan 2012, and was on a target in their 6-0 hammering of Gambia.
This season, Payne has played four matches for Ajax in the Eredivisie Women, and has UEFA Women's Champions League experience under her belt.
Former Arsenal striker Chioma Ubogagu is also eligible to play for Nigeria despite earning caps for United States youth teams.
