ToyinDipo:How many against China? http://www.espnfc.com/matchstats?gameId=479397 That is a link of a game where Barcelona had 47% possesion are they also counter attacking |

chic2pimp:They are the two best Italian clubs no doubt, but Juve IMO was/is a more attacking team than AC Milan. Remember Barcelona vs Juventus 2005 Gamper game, that Juve had more possession than a Barca team with Messi et al |

raumdeuter:I can't find the stats for China yet, but I remember watching the game, it was even except the scoreline. Same with the Costa rica match. If the possession stats for Barca is always within that range, the they can't be tagged as an attacking team. Brazil is not a team that have possession in the range of 70, not even 60% every game. |

raumdeuter:8 of those goals are vs the group whipping boys. Liverpool annihilated besiktas 8-0 the same year. In the business end inter scored 10 united 7. Inter conceded 3 united 2. Infact 1 of the greatest defensive masterclass by a team in the competition history was united vs barca tie. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by CapitalCee(m): 11:15pm On Oct 29, 2017 |
raumdeuter:Milan has never been know as an attacking team, infact they with Juventus served up the borest champions league final in history in 2003 at Old trafford. Not all madrids triumphs from 1998 to 2002 was all attacking, infact within that period of 18 years in which you mention. Man united twice, FC porto, Liverpool, Chelsea, intermilan and arguably milan has won the competition more by defensive solidity rather than gong ho attack. |

ToyinDipo:I know you said In your opinion but evidence does not back you up. Juve in 05 had the very pragmatic Capello as their coach If I remember correctly. Yh but no one takes Gamper games seriously. |

ToyinDipo:I'd say the team that has the best balance between attacking and defending more often than not wins. Even Barca in their pomp weren't all out attacking. They defended by starving teams of ball possesion. If you did not have the ball, there was no way you could hurt them. Chelsea and inter milan were not all defence mind you. Remember this same Inter put 3 past Barca and 2 past Munich in the finals. Likewise Chelsea going away to the Camp Nou and scoring 2 goals. |

CapitalCee:Actually Milan was an attacking team. I read one of Arrigo Sacchi interview and he said his intention was to eradicate defensive football Read this and tell me Milan was not an attacking side http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1425160-great-team-tactics-breaking-down-how-arrigo-sacchis-ac-milan-took-down-europe Milan of the 2000 played 2 of Rui Costa Kaka Rivaldo Seedorf and 2 of Shevchenko Crespo and Inzaghi in attack Read the link above and you will see so many similarities between what was described in the Milan tactics And Guardiola Barcelona. I will say Arrigo Sacchi Milan was the Barcelona before Barcelona became Barcelona |

raumdeuter:The same country has Dunga, Roberto Carlos, Cafu and Claudio Tafferal. After Brazil, Germany and Italy is the most successful In WC. 2 of the last 3 Germany's triumphs was characterized more by the success of their defensive stalwarts . In 1974 Franz Berkenbuer and Lothar Mathuas/ Andre Brehme in 1990. Even their other best performance in the world cup in 2002, has everything to do with Oliver Khan. Italy last two triumphs owes it to Franco Baresi, Gentile and 42 year old Dino Zoff. (Although Paulo Rossi deserves mention) in 1982, and in 2006 Fabio Cannavaro and Gianlugi Buffon has a good say. Spain in 2010 did not conceded any goal in the knockout round and only score just 4 in the knockout rounds and 7 in the entire competition. |

CapitalCee:What were those Brazilian defenders known for? Cafu Carlos were more popular for their attacking than defensive duties just like Danni alves 1990 Germany was an attacking side even the 74 Germany. In 1990 Matthaus was an attacking midfielder, Brehme was an attacking full back, there was Klinsmann, Voller 1974 had Gerd Muller, Overath Hoeness Grabowski all attaching juggernauts even Paul Breitner was an attacking full back |

chic2pimp:I agree with you, there is no way a team can win a game with 0% possession, neither can a team have 100% possession. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by CapitalCee(m): 12:03am On Oct 30, 2017 |
raumdeuter:You are very correct of Sacchi, but remember that that same team has the best defensive partnership in UCL era in Paulo Maldini and Franco Baresi. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by raumdeuter: 12:05am On Oct 30, 2017 |
CapitalCee:You can have great defenders without playing defensive football. Mourinho had Ronaldo one of the greatest attacking player of all time in Madrid and in big games still didn't attack. Given that Milan played a high line deployed high pressing bossing possesion and had attacking talents like van basten gullit Boban Savicevic |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by raumdeuter: 12:14am On Oct 30, 2017 |
ToyinDipo:This game vs England, Brazil had 53% possession despite playing with a man down for about 30 mins. Now tell how this is not an attacking side |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by CapitalCee(m): 12:16am On Oct 30, 2017 |
raumdeuter:You are correct for Brazil though, how about for Germany italia and the spanish triumphs. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by ToyinDipo(m): 12:17am On Oct 30, 2017 |
raumdeuter:An attacking side with a man down for only 30 minutes, will still have about 60+ possession against an English team, where it's all about long balls. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by CapitalCee(m): 12:24am On Oct 30, 2017 |
raumdeuter:I now understand you, Playing defensive is different from having great defenders while still playing attacking football though. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by raumdeuter: 1:38am On Oct 30, 2017 |
ToyinDipo:So 11 vs 11 what will the possession of an attacking side vs England be? Brazil was a man down, they were a goal up and still had majority of possession shows they are an attacking side. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by raumdeuter: 1:42am On Oct 30, 2017 |
CapitalCee:Italy has 4 world cups 2 of them won before 1940. In the last 80yrs Italy has won 2 world cups. At the time Italy won their first 2 cups Brazil and Germany haven't won any. Shows that in the last 65yrs 5 trophies for Brazil, 5 for Germany and numerous final appearances for Germany. It shows one thing. Attacking football wins at least thrice more than defensive football |

![]() Nawa ooo!! Let's say the truth we really need Pogba back, even Fellaini.. Rojo I'll be back after the International break by November. Jose Mourinho expects Marcos Rojo to return for Manchester United after the November international break, but he insists he has "no idea" when Paul Pogba will be fit. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11102962/jose-mourinho-has-no-idea-when-paul-pogba-will-return-but-marcos-rojo-back-in-november |

Today marks the 80th anniversary of Manchester United having an academy graduate in every single match day squad. That means for an incredible 3,883 consecutive matches United have involved a youth team player in the first team, a record dating back to October 1937. For context, the club with next longest run is Everton with over 1,000 consecutive games over a period of 21 years. For further comparison, there were six teams on the last weekend of August this season who didn’t have a single youth team graduate in their squad (Manchester City, Stoke, Swansea, Burnley, Bournemouth and Watford). City, who some argue have overtaken United in youth production, didn’t have any academy players in the squad for this weekend’s win over West Brom. In other words, United 3883 – City 0. https://therepublikofmancunia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/United-youth-80-years-400x400.jpg United is a club that rival fans have long accused of “buying success”. You can’t get away from the fact that United generate more money than any club in the country and, in some seasons, the world, so they are therefore likely to spend that money on improving the squad. Yet there still needs to be recognition for the fact the club has always made room for its own players. Unlike many teams in the league, United are in a position to buy all their first team squad players, yet instead of doing that, they always include academy graduates. As happy as United fans can feel over all the trophies we’ve won over the past few decades, the pride in seeing our youth succeed ranks highly among the best things of supporting this club. United can boast an impressive record of including our youngsters in our first team, but we are also providing quality players for other English teams too, and therefore the national team. https://therepublikofmancunia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Screen-Shot-2017-10-29-at-19.52.50-768x216.png Today is a day for the recognition we deserve. |

“We played Marcus and Anthony together at Swansea one week ago so yes they can play together. That's no problem. What we cannot do is play with 12 men, and we cannot play with everybody at the same time. "But we did play them together, so we can repeat that against Benfica or we can repeat in any other match. But nobody here thinks about any other match than Benfica. Nobody here thinks about Chelsea, so it is Benfica - just Benfica - and the Champions League.” - JOSE MOURINHO |

GloryIsaac:I am not the cause of their suffering, penury or anger at their present predicaments so I really have no take on their pain! They should either go and get jobs, marry rich or come and join us in the front lines of the biz world and start stacking their paper up instead of fooling themselves on nairaland and hating at the same time! |

“We have so many matches and if we can qualify tomorrow, it would be better. If we can qualify in first place, you cannot say it would be better in terms of the last-16 draw than finishing second in the group because sometimes you finish first and get bad draws, but football is football and we’d prefer to finish first than second. Let’s try to qualify first though. “Benfica are a better team than Basel and CSKA. Yes, they are in a difficult position and now they can really only expect to get enough points to go into the Europa League. So they are going to try to get at least a point from our match. "Since we played in Lisbon they have won both of their [domestic] matches. I think they are more confident, they are more Benfica than two weeks ago, so I expect a difficult match.” - JOSE MOURINHO |
