I no gree. If na so, then space no suppose dey now but if person delete any file, space go free up... In actual sense, deleted files are completely erased (binary o, code o, algorithm o) only on some OS, like android, we do have LOST folder(or like) which is like a folder for super compressed deleted files. That is all I have to say
When files are deleted, they are never truly erazed from memory, every device OS works with the same storage option locally. With a proper magnetizing device, you can always retrieve deleted files. The binary codes are only hashed in memory and the pointer to them is no longer known, i won't mind you reading up on this.

They don't go anywhere, they say on the phone until you overwrite them with other stuff.

I still don't quite agree with you. You see, once a file is deleted without being backed up or comprypted (compressed+encrypted in respect to a particular software or OS) such file is GONE!. I don't mind you giving me an instance that supports your claim (something incoherent to my post. we learn everyday)

Let me explain to you the way this works but before i do, what is your expertise in technology?, here is the way memory works, it is just like an excel file, a key and a value, the key is the pointer to the memory allocation in the disk, when you delete a file, that pointer which points to the memory location is hashed, in layman terms the pointer is forgotten, if the pointer name was 00000000, it changes to 01010101 in such a way that the pointer forgets the location, with a strong magnetic energy, you can repoint this deleted memory back. What i am informing you about is undergoing serious research but it is very costly to do: please read this article:The first method is to do with variations in magnetic flux. When data is written to disk, the resultant magnetic flux depends mostly on the value written. However, the flux is also provided with a tiny contribution from the overwritten data.

So, if you replace the normal read electronics that decide whether a bit is a 1 or a 0 with circuitry that can extract the analogue value from the head, subtracting the known contribution of the most recently written data should make it possible to determine what value was in place before it.

This method of extracting overwritten data is commonly reported and academic papers have been written on the subject, but we've been unable to find any organisation that claims to have done it successfully. The problem is that the signal to the previously written data is so small that it effectively gets lost in the random electrical fluctuations commonly referred to as noise. However, Western Digital's Gerardo Bertero – while questioning whether the technique is really a practical proposition – did suggest one possible solution. By reading each bit thousands if not millions of times and averaging all those signals, electrical noise, being random in nature, would average out to zero – whereas the genuine signal would build up and become visible.

The snag is that this would be hugely time-consuming and costly – which is why nobody offers such a service.

In simple terms, the files remains on the hard-drive. The pointer which leads to that same memory location gets reassigned. That's all. Other files can overwrite/merge with the file when assigned to the same memory location causing a mess during data recovery.

On any hard disk, there is a table stored that says "File xxxxxxxx is stored in the following location(s): "
This ensures that for any request to file xxxxxxxxx, the drive knows where to go look for it. When a file is deleted, the first character of the filename is removed and marked as "unknown". This was the key to let the drive know that any of the locations listed for any filename starting with an unknown character were free to be overwritten with new data.
As long as no new data had been written over the sectors that originally housed that information, everything was still there and you could recover it simply by telling the table to restore the first character of the filename (I remember having to go through entire directories of data back in the 80s, trying to recall the first character of all the filenames so they could be undeleted, kind of like this:

"deleted file ?utoexec.bat -- First character: _"

Complete. Nightmare. Anyway, I digress)

So that allows a pretty easy method of recovering a file providing the sectors that housed it hadn't yet been overwritten. The Windows recycle bin simply delays this process by moving "deleted" files into a special holding area, noting the original location and date it was deleted. After a certain period of time, the "proper" delete takes place.

Now, some people realised that if they wanted to actually get rid of a file, a simple delete might not be sufficient, after all simply by restoring the data in the file table, there's a reasonable chance it might be able to be recovered, especially if it hadn't been a long time since the delete took place. So a method called "zero filling" was invented. This involved filling every byte of the original file with a "0", and then deleting the file. That way, even if you do restore the data in the file table, all you're going to get back is an empty file. It effectively ensures that the disk sectors are already overwritten at the time of deletion.

exactly. they stay on your phone until it is overwritten and even when they get overwritten, point a good recovery software at it and you might be able to recover it unless it had been written over multiple times

Nothing is completely deleted. With the right tools, recovery can be made. There are professionals who specialises in data recovery. The guy you mentioned is right

it doesn't go anywhere bro, it's still on d phone and marked as free memory which will be overwrite by another thing u store on d phone later on. that why u see people restoring some lost files even after they've deleted it, it stays on d phone until anoda app overwrites it
