One thing y'all fail to understand is apart from his Papal vestments, which are buried with him when he dies, nothing belongs to the Pope. It's for the Church. And the major reason for the ride is because apart from being the leader of the largest religious sect, he's also the head of state of the Vatican City. A future pope might continue to use this one, or inherit one used by former popes or maybe get a new modification of the Popemobile. But it's not his. Nothing is his. Not even the fisherman's ring that adorns his finger.
