I agree with you that Rohr was a gamble and not our first choice for coach. Also we shouldn't take anything away from our indigenous coaches who have achieved a lot as well.

I used to be a strong advocate for 9ja coaches I still am but one thing they keep doing which irritates me is they turn the national team to an avenue for inviting 'their' boys. I still can't understand what Sylvester Igboun was doing in the national team. Why Isaac Promise and Solomon Okoronkwo were invited to the eagles I still don't understand. Or do we talk about Agbim etc. If our Nigerian coaches who have been coached by some of the best in the world in their playing days could stop using the national team as a means of selling players, I want to believe they will achieve consistent and sustained success.
Yes you are right on Nigerian coaches but sometimes you find such players in the list of foreign coaches too, hope you remember Emeka Ezeugu a player with no distinct career as a footballer but always make Westerhoff list even made WC team or what can you say of Ezenwa making Rohr team, pls tell me the different between Ezenwa and Agbim.

Did you know in Ezenwa most club career he was always a second choice, second choice to Akpeyi at heartland, second choice to Ebere Obi(Mikel bro)at Ranger and second choice at Ifeayi Uba in just concluded season but always find his way to national team at the expense of better keepers in the league.

Truly seeing Agbim in goal during Keshi era was a slapped on Nigeria football but whom do we blamed Keshi but Ezenwa getting the call whom do we blamed Alloy Agu why not Rohr and Why not Ike Shorunmu under Keshi, hope you are getting my point.

When we lost against South Africa some try to shift the blame on Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu and try to shield Rohr from blame forgetting Rohr got it wrong tactically against South Africa.

Am not try to compare our local coaches with foreign ones but we must acknowledges their achievement not trying to rubbish it,see how guys were trying to erase Siasia record as the first coach to beat Argentina, some said Argentina paraded team B,funny enough some said it was a match fixed, just to rubbish his achievement.

One thing is very cleared Rohr has a record to beat and the record is taking Nigeria beyond second round at WC and winning Afcon cos Westerhoff and Keshi have the record.

I don't think there is need to compare achievement of these coaches especially with African national teams but the way guys are trying to downgrade this coaches, there is need to set the record straight.I w tell anybody who care to listen that Keshi's achievements was awesome and Rohr w be envy.

Do they think it's easy to qualify tiny Togo for WC or winning Afcon, not try to diminish Rohr, this is the first he is getting it right in Africa soil,so seeing the way guys jump or try to antagonise anyone who has contrary view on Rohr bewildered me.

Honestly i give it to Rohr for able to bring the winning streak back to eagles despite not able to qualify for two successive Afcon and i w always wish him the best in taking Nigeria football to glory.

Including this quote from German journalist mark Roland.

” It’s scary how some players think they can have a future at a team that doesn’t even know if they exist at all. I think Akpoguma is trying to get Germany to notice him by turning down Nigeria

This is the first time he is having a taste of the Bundesliga, and he is already 22. In the Germany national team there are about 8 players ahead of him, and a further 7 waiting in the wings. Among them he is by far the oldest among all and the least rated. If not for injuries he wouldn’t have been in the team of Hoffeinheim. Credit to him he has taken the chance to make an impression but in just few games, and one of the games was the one Rohr watched.

He has to reconsider and play for Nigeria, that is his surest way of going to the World Cup. He need to take a cue from Leon Balogun who is now considered by some in Germany as one who got away from them, thanks to his display for Nigeria''
if they didn't know that he exist, how come he has played for German's u-20 and u-21 national team?,
anyways thank u for saying all these against him so that he can decide on time.

The Siasia 4-1 victory over Argentina was a fixed game. The unusual betting trend in the final 5 mins of the game by known Asian betting syndicates indicated as much.
We were lucky to escape a FIFA ban. For me, I will take that result with a pinch of salt.
my man the match was not fixed or did you think our recent friendly victory over them was also fixed?

I’m still Super Eagles’ material, says Oboabona
By Tolu Olorunmoteni - November 22, 2017 49 0

Nigeria's midfielder OBOABONA Godfrey Oboabona listens to his national anthem before the Nigeria vs Cape Verde friendly football match in preparation for the CAN 2013 tournament at Algarve Stadium in Faro on January 9, 2013 .

Super Eagles’ defender, Godfrey Itama Oboabona, has said he still possesses the top notch quality in demand by the Gernot Rohr-led team.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champion last played for the Super Eagles under former Coach Sunday Oliseh in 2015 but believes in his quality despite playing in the Saudi Arabian league.

“I don’t agree my quality has dropped just because I play my football in Saudi Arabia. We have quality stars in the Saudi league like Xavi Hernandez, Denilson, Kenwyne Jones, Royston Drenthe, Moussa Sow, Modibo Maiga and many others,” the former Rizespor of Turkey defender told AOIFootball.com.

The former Sunshine Stars of Akure player has featured 44 times for the Super Eagles and has been a consistent performer at Al Ahli this season, featuring in all games this season for the club.

Ahli have been top of the 14- team table since Match Day 3.

Starting eleven?my man,Samson Siasia led eagles beat Argentina national team 4-1.Do we say Rohr did not beat Argentina coz Lionel Messi was absent.

The major issue now is that they want to drawn us into technical superiority between Rohr and Siasia, meaning Siasia beat inferior Argentina team while Rohr beat superior team.

Forgetting football cannot be analyse like that, remember Keshi held the same South Africa team to 2-2 draw but Rohr lost 2 nil,do we say Keshi is superior technically.

I for one have acknowledge Rohr achievement so far with eagles but i w not be blind to criticise him constructively if need be,some see Rohr as a perfect coach forgetting a lot didn't believe in Rohr in the first place cos his CV was not good enough even Amaju said he gambled with his appointment.
not at all,no one is questioning Siasia credibility, but all i just want is he minimize the way he tackles Rohr's every decision especially the invitation of players.
to try to give Rohr his due respect,it's not easy to see a coach such as Rohr with our limited resources, because we don't have money to hire the type of coach he desires.
Rohr has been excellent in his man manage of players, which is very important.

As i have said if not for Rohr saying he need ball playing defender, the guy offer nothing much from what we have presently, not try to criticise him cos have made mentioned of him on this thread that there was a Nigerian German born that captain Germany U20 team against Nigeria at WC.

I watched him closely this season at least three matches cos he was always on the bench when season started and came into the team due to injury to one of the regular. So not that spectacular but normal defender who play ball on the ground and very useful in 3-5-2 formation, may be that what really drawn Rohr attention.
it's because of the 3-5-2/3-4-3 formation that want him nothing else, because i don't think he trust Awaziem that much.

Who're those comparing rohr and siasia again

Sia1 dt couldn't qualify us twice to a nations cup, his best achievement was with underage competitions, but as far as eagles job is concerned, he failed woefully

At d moment rohr is a better coach to sia 1,wyle late Keshi remains d all time best super eagles coach considering d fact dt,he took him just 2years to achieve d same feat westerhof achieved WC it took five years for d later to achieve.

Except if rohr set a new record in Russia,WC we all hope, by surpassing d normal 2nd round berth, but if not, keshi is d best.

Absolutely Keshi achieved a lot as a coach even beyond Nigeria. I honestly feel we could even have done better at the last world cup if a number of undeserving players weren't taken to Brazil. The likes of ameobi, uchebo, Reuben Gabriel, odunlami, egwekwe. Imagine if a John ogu had come in place of onazi after the French attack. I truly and honestly believe the likes of siasia, Keshi and oliseh (apart from eccentricity) are actually very good coaches to be honest. With a little more objectivity with team selection and bench materials, our teams would have achieved a lot. I mean siasia Brazil Olympic team starting 11 was quite good but who did we have on the bench, popoola etc.

Akpoguma Makes U-Turn On Snubbing Nigeria For Germany Says Anything Can Happen

German-Nigerian defender Kevin Akpoguma has left the door open over a potential switch of allegiance to Nigeria, few days after saying he wants to focus on progressing through the ranks of Germany.

He has already represented Germany at various youth levels, but coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr was hoping to convince him to switch allegiance to Nigeria at senior level.

Rohr is in Germany and he confirmed that he will hold talks with Akpoguma soon to have a chat with him on playing for Nigeria, but the 22 year old immediately responded by saying he wants to play for Germany.

However reports from Germany monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com has it that he granted an interview on a sport programme in Germany, where he confirmed he is open to the idea of playing for Nigeria.

Roland Mark said Akpoguma even confirmed talks will be held with Rohr who handles the Nigerian team, referring to him as a coach he respects a lot right from his days as director of youth football in Germany.

Unfortunately, you are right.
The cases of Godswill Ekpolo and Derik osede comes to mind.

The problem goes beyond football.

There is a prevailing mentality that everything abroad represents better opportunity and life improvement. People are now prepared to risk life and limb and anything else to get there.

Once a person is desperately desperate then he is open to all suggestion and easily manipulated.

I have been to Italy where African footballers are treated like cattle. Or Portugal where they are crowded into youth accommodation and stupendous million ££ transfer fees placed on them. This is even before they have kicked a ball. Thank the Lord that TPF has been outlawed since 2015 in Europe. Because it was even worse then.

I have been to Antwerp and met hundreds of failed footballers washing cars to survive while bother contemplate shattered dreams.

At the heart of the problem is the quest for money before development. Short term planning and not long term strategy and development. Agents sign players with the soul purpose of making money by hook or crook no matter what. Even to the detriment of thier players.

Players are prepared to sell thier souls to the devil with slave contracts. I am sure we still have TPI in. Nigeria.

Solutions very difficult your dealing with ingrained mind sets.

However, the NFF can start a player education programmes. Inform them of the modalities, culture
and norms football structure, discipline and style of different countries etc. Make players aware of the differing contracts limitations and remedies. Have an advisory panel within the NFF to give them advice and support before and after they travel abroad.

I don't think you can dissuade these players not to go. So we need to find a way to manage it.

Finally we really need to invest in our local sports infrastructure and coaching within the country.

There is no need to adjust my earlier post. This information about our infamous 4-1 victory over Argentina being fixed have been in the public domain for years.
The truth is that proving a game is fixed is difficult, However, a study of betting patterns could actually indicate a game is fixed.
Here's a report from the UK telegraph about the game :

In the same year, Fifa said it was trying to speak to a Niger referee who officiated in a match between Nigeria and Argentina. Nigeria won 4-1, after unusual betting patterns indicated it had been targeted by match-fixers. Nigeria was leading the game 4-0 until Ibrahim Chaibou awarded Argentina a penalty for handball in the eighth minute of injury time.
This was despite the fourth official having indicated just five minutes of extra time were due. Television replays showed the ball had hit a Nigerian player’s shin.
While the score was 4-0, a huge amount of money in the Asian gambling markets had been bet on a fifth goal being scored.
“There had been some crazy moves on the in-running market early in the game,” said Matthew Benham of SmartOdds, an online betting firm.
“With 86 minutes played, the odds for over 4.50 (a fifth goal to be scored) were absolutely insane. The market was effectively saying it was odds against that there would be no more goals.
“It is hard to get an exact figure for how much would have been bet to force that kind of swing, but we are certainly talking hundreds of thousands, possibly more than £1 million.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/10918404/Football-match-fixing-Referees-guilty-of-fixing-final-scores-in-high-stakes-games.html

As a matter of fact, the Nigerien ref who officiated that match have been suspected of being involved in match fixing in the past. He once awarded 3 controversial penalties in a game...

Mr Chaibou has been involved in controversial games before. He was in charge of a match in Sept when Bahrain beat a fake Togo team 3-0, which is also being investigated for potential match-fixing. The game was organised by Raj Perumal.
In 2010, he awarded three controversial penalties as South Africa beat Guatemala 5-0 in a World Cup warm-up.

I like calling a spade a spade. If it looks like monkey, jumps like monkey, it's definitely a monkey.
Football is not a clean sports after all. If proper investigation should be carried out, the Gabonese ref who awarded the penalty To Algeria must have been compromised by Asian betting cartels.

Remember our friendly game against Scotland? Where Austin Ejide deliberately parried the ball into his net? That's another pointer to match fixing....
the replay is still on youtube

Recall Sam Sodje's testimony on BBC on how betting syndicates compromise African players? Even in world cup games....

As much as we want to gloat that we beat Argentina in the said game, I'm afraid my conscience won't permit me to celebrate such a dirty looking victory.

Okay.. did the ref also influence the Argentine's conceding 4 goals? The players would have to have been involved to bring the game to that scoreline.
While this story may be true, we were beating Argentina anyway.
And our goals were clean. The video is still on YouTube

As much as we want to gloat that we beat Argentina in the said game, I'm afraid my conscience won't permit me to celebrate such a dirty looking victory.

so how do d betting company pull the strings? do it require bribing the whole team,or the coach and referee?

I'm just saying in a dynamic frontline they can switch anytime.. again and again, especially when the wingers have a stronger feet.
The purpose is to stay unpredictable. Sometimes we can use a cross or two at either wings. The modern wingers cut in, but they are not limited to that. Back in the days, they were expected to make crosses.

Why confuse me with yes and no. Of course they van switch postiton but that doesn't mean they won't retuen to their respective positions

There is no need to adjust my earlier post. This information about our infamous 4-1 victory over Argentina being fixed have been in the public domain for years.

My man with due respect you are free to say anything and am not forcing you to edit anything just an advice for our image but since you believe you know much about the fixing of the match you can go on it's a free world.

What you are saying is not new to me on the match but the allegations then was seen baseless, malicious, unfounded, uncalled for, myopic and stupid and there was no time FIFA try to investigate the match.

The defeat was so painful that Argentina organised another friendly in Bangladesh which we lost 3-1.

Why are you trying to back your fact with UK telegraph just like metro, these are junk media outfits.

Look am not argue that there are no syndicates trying to upturned matches,so no need to educate me on it.I cite an example of John Fashanu and Bruce Grobellar case which they later acquitted, also the recent one involved Dickson Etuhu which was found to be untrue.

What is my business with Bahrain Togo match, there are lot of cases of match fixing but my concern is Nigeria vs Argentina match which you believe it was fixed. If you can give me your fact I w keep shut.

Oh you mean Ejide was involved in match fixing against Scotland?my man you are going too far on this cos a personality is involved and am hearing it for the first time.

The match you are talking about i watched it Live and I can tell you Ejide was just too nervous in that match,he lacked composure and confidence in that particular match, the parried of the ball was not intentional.Haba this was a young boy just coming up keeping for Gabros in Nnewi, just getting national calls and was involved in match fixing,Haba Oga.

It was this howler from Ejide that gave Enyeama the opportunity to be invited to super eagles.Ejide was always jittery in our friendlies,go and check it out.

If you are saying Ejide was influenced by match fixing syndicate then Zubrizzetta of Spain that parried Garba Lawal crossed into his own net was influenced by who cos i never see any Spanish citizens accusing Zubri of match fixing.

If i may ask you who are the people involved in Argentina match fixing cos in your first comment you said FIFA wanted to ban Nigeria, for what and now again you are trying to involve the refree.Pls do you really know the meaning of match fixing cos you are so sure of what you are saying, honestly am baffled.

We beat Argentina thoroughly not match fixing cos nobody was accused and no investigation on both sides even on the officials but a lot believe Nigeria cannot beat Argentina 4-1 so there were beer parlour talks that led to nauseating news reports especially from junk sports media in UK who don't see anything good about Africa.

If any body's existence was questionable here, then, it must be that of Roland Mark because I doubt this name "Roland Mark" was not made up. That quote and its message sense sounded so Nigerian. Roland Mark is a fake name. owngoalnigeria.com is playing tricks. Believe them at ur own peril. They wrote that stuff and ascribed it to non existent Roland. If u doubt the fictional figure of this Roland Mark and ask my reason for questioning the authenticity of that post, I implore u to search for Roland Mark on Google and u will find it so befuddling when u only get directed to owngoalnigeria.com instead of German sites Kpom!!!
Very possible. I also did a twitter search of that name sometime during the day, and of all the Handles that popped up, non was a journalist. Go figure.

It's very difficult to prove match fixing. There's basically no way to prove money exchanged hands before a game is played when there's no witness.

Instead, strange betting patterns are like smoking guns in these sort of investigations.

How do you explain millions of £$ staked in Asia on the probability of a goal scored in the final few minutes of the game. The refree (a man under investigation for match fixing in the past), allowed an extra   3mins after the allocated 5 mins additional time  and in this extra - extra time, he awarded a shady penalty to Argentina.

This allegations actually leaves a sour taste in the mouth in what was otherwise a sweet victory. Its not a matter of Africans being hated because they beat Argentina.

You got it wrong about the Ejide incident. The Scotland game in question was prior to the 2014 world cup not the 2002 event.

Before the game, I reckon the match was under investigation by interpol for match fixing.

What did we see in the game? Well Ejide appeared to throw the ball into his own net. That incident actually embarrassed Nigeria. Official statement had to be made.

You can't blame anyone who apprehended the witch who cried in the night and the baby died in the morning.

I mean, questions should be asked.

No the goal was scored by Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi assisted by Mikel,Aiyenugba cannot be faulted with any of the goals, generally a good game for Nigeria despite not winning. The match was played in Bangladesh if am right.

I ve noticed that we always have a good game against Argentina but we are just so unlucky to loss. Let me believe its the beginning of a new era and we will rewrite our history going forward. Soar high Eagles.....
